"Driving the XT is a dream. 0 to 60 goes by in a flash, especially when utilizing the two sport modes that Subaru offers. Flipping the "S#" makes the XT fire off like a rocket in a way that never fails to put a smile on my face. Even from a practicality standpoint, the normal "S" sport mode makes the car come to life. Merging on the highway or accelerating to make a safe lane transition is effortless. In terms of handling, I have noticed some body lean when taking sharp turns. I've learned to plant my left foot to stabilize myself in those situations, so my body stays firmly in place. Steering is responsive, and I always feel as though my movement with the wheel accurately translates to my movement on the road."

Toyota is using a hybrid CVT in their Corolla Sport, 1st gear is a conventional automatic gear, probably to avoid this same situation."

"We had heard the 2.5 normally aspirated engine was sluggish and that we would want for more power. We also had heard that the engine noise would be excessive going up hills or with merging with traffic etc. We've been much happier than we had expected to be in these 2 areas. As part of our regular driving routine, we have to navigate a very steep hill and then up an down many other hills on daily basis (not including regular trips to San Francisco and it's famous hills). It handles these with ease and gives a feeling of confidence. We do hear the engine but with this vehicles very quiet interior, it is not annoying at all. With respect to daily driving on freeways, the Forrester accelerates to freeway speeds and confidently moves with even the fastest of traffic. If I was to rate the engine performance on just off the line or passing cars with breakneck speed, this would be less than stellar, but more than adequate. We continue to be pleasantly surprised at how much this has not been an issue. We've already had our car on a trek to Lake Tahoe and it was silky, sure footed, and relaxing to drive."

All that being said I love that at the end of a 14 hour drive I can emerge from my Forester and move without any stiffness! Noise level, or actually lack of it is awesome. As a result, the seatbelt socket jabs me in the side until I fasten my belt (call a redundant safety warning system!!). There isn't quite enough clearance between seat and closed door to reach the seat controls, at least not with MY arm. The headrest is shaped such that it pokes forward too far and won't go all the way down to the top of the seat back (which for me, a female of medium height, would help). Also, a personal note: I often wear my hair in a pony tail, and I can't adjust the head rest so it doesn't push the pony tail uncomfortably against my head, when I am sitting up straight. To get the head rest back far enough, I have to lean the seat back, and then my arms get tired from reaching for the wheel. I'd bet this seat would be perfect for a 6-ft man with short hair, though! Speaking of 6 foot men, my son (who is 6'2") had the problem, sitting in the passenger seat, of his head reaching awfully close to the roof of the car, possibly a safety concern, and the passenger seat does not have up/down controls."

"My XT's seats are supportive and designed to comfortably fit a man that is 5'6''. The lumbar support is also a fantastic addition that adds to the support my back feels. Going fast on the highway definitely brings on the wind noise in a noticeable way. But that at least reminds me of the speed that I'm traveling. On the noise note, the XT's acceleration noise are actually considerably quieter than some luxury model cars I've tested. I tested a Q3 while car shopping, and actually found that its engine would transition from quiet to a load roar when merging on a high way. It came off as unsophisticated, and underpowered. My XT never sounds like it is straining itself like that; the engine noise is always pleasant. Ride is above-average in my experience, for a car of this type. It soaks up small pot-holes and road imperfections with ease. Not quite to a luxury-level, but noticeably better than the old 2006 Outback that I grew up driving."

The headrest pushes my head forward like a turtle--whatever height I adjust it to. If I put it all the way down, it shoves my head forward. If I put it all the way up, it hits the ceiling and is just too low for my head to go under it. I've temporarily solved the problem by removing the headrest and putting in one from the back seat--but its legs are much shorter than the front seat one, and it doesn't lock into position (all the way down). I think this is a safety problem. The second issue is the lack of a place for my purse. My old 1996 Honda Odyssey had enough space between the front seats to put my largish purse so that I could reach my license, or lip gloss or money for tolls, etc., when I needed to. Now I have to belt a box into the shotgun seat, and put my purse in it. However, when I drive with someone, I must either put the purse under that person's feet (to have the purse nearish) or put it on the back seat floor. Neither of these solutions works for me. I HATE not having room between the seats for my purse--and so does every woman I ask. There is no reason to have the shifter between the seats. If it were on the column (as used to be the case), there would be room for a purse between the seats. I wish someone would take care of this problem by asking women what they want. The various solutions offered by Amazon DO NOT WORK unless the purse is too small to hold what everyone needs."

The Forester is well engineered and has a solution for every potential problem I can think of. "Terrible mileage in city, under 20mpg. Car drives differently all the time. Sometimes a lot of acceleration, sometimes a little. Road mileage also varies a lot. When I first got the car for the first 3 months. the mileage was much better than the current mileage. Subaru dealers do not seem to have the ability to return car to previous state or fix poor acceleration problems."
