What Owners Say
"It has excellent acceleration and the handling is crisp."
Anonymous, IL (2016 Subaru Forester)"good"
Anonymous, BC (2016 Subaru Forester)"The CVT transmission is slow to go into gear. This is unerving when you are trying to back up and move forward in a situation that is time sensitive."
Tim L., IN (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good, but not outstanding, handling; Good acceleration, but too sensitive."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"smooth acceleration; well-planted handling"
Daniel M., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"terrible lurching when accelerating from a stop. results in very uncomfortable ride and very poor gas mileage. also, it handles like a van-- very heavy and bulky."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling his quick responsive and agile"
Charles N., CO (2016 Subaru Forester)"Not the fastest in it's class, but adequate. I wish Subaru would up the horsepower a bit."
Anonymous, UT (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration is more than adequate in aggressive highway driving. Highway handling is only adequate at highway speeds."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Drives wonderfully"
Noelani S., HI (2016 Subaru Forester)"Excellent"
Kenneth L., ME (2016 Subaru Forester)"Very good. 4 cyl engine gives great exceleration. Great mpg."
Henry H., GA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The 4 cyl. 2.5L has surprisingly good acceleration at lower speeds (adequate when merging into traffic)."
Brian H., OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"Love the turbo. Excellent acceleration on steep grade on the highway."
Anonymous, OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"The turbo-charged engine provides outstanding acceleration. Steering,, cornering and responsiveness are exceptional for an SUV."
Rowland W., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Amazing Acceleration and Smoothness of the CVT. Far surpasses our expectations."
Matt A., PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Decent but not sporty acceleration. Handling is a little sluggish but controlled."

Anonymous, TN (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration and handing though some noticeable rear slipping in wet and snow covered driving"
J K., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration and handling on pavement are fine. This vehicle is very secure in snow and on gravel roads, which is very important here in Colorado."
David K., WI (2016 Subaru Forester)"The continuous gear transmission is much better than I expected (smooth and efficient and peppy), but the transition from reverse to forward gears is slow and clunky (that was/is my hardest transition from life with a standard transmission)."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Smooth 8 speed automatic transmission. You never feel it shifting."
Anonymous, TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration, a bit better that the Forester 18. No perceived lag in the CVT ."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Excellent drivability brakes well handles super well resonable exceleration"
Brian L., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Not very powerful going up mountain passes. It doesn't start sometimes. It handles curves pretty good. It did pretty well on remote gravel and dirt roads. I wish I could tow something with it. 1500 lb towing means it has no towing, basically"
Tricia K., UT (2016 Subaru Forester)"This is my first automatic xxxxxx after decades of manual. LOVE the CVT. This Forester is so much zippier than the 2011 manual Forester I previously owned. Handling is great for an SUV. Nice turning circle."
Anonymous, MD (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration a little slow. (To be expected from 4 cylinder engine). Good handling in all weather conditions."
Deborah T., TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration and handling are excellent. I love the eyesight system for its control during driving . Especially in heavy traffic. you can turn it on and it will stop and start the car with no jerking at all, it is great in rush hour traffic. the ride is so smooth that I often find I am over the speed limit and have learned I really need to use cruise control to control my speed. Handling in all weather has been great too."
Lance H., MO (2016 Subaru Forester)"All in all it drives nice but when hit the gas peddle hard there is a lot of engine noise. I know it is because it is a CVT transmission but it takes away from the driving experience."
Jeffrey Q., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration and handling for a small, low end SUV"
Anonymous, TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"very reliable, fuel efficient and feel safe on the road in all conditions and especially in winter."
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"Starting up there's a slight delay which takes getting used to, especially when switching between cars. But overall, has great power for hills and good response other than initial start from a stopped position."
Anonymous, VT (2016 Subaru Forester)"The turbo engine is more powerful than other small SUVs I've driven"
Anonymous, NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Vehicle is solid."
Anonymous, VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Fast acceleration, very nimble steering. A pleasure to drive."
Linda B., IN (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good vision out rear window. Gets good gas mileage. Car handles well in snow."
Anonymous, NH (2016 Subaru Forester)"It is a 4 cylinder and it has very good acceleration and handling. I like the speed control that keeps a safe distance from the vehicle in front ands speeds up when lane is clear"
Vince C., VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling is less secure than the 2006 Subaru I have. Cornering at highway speeds feels like I am drifting. The car has continuously variable transmission. Accelerating causes the RPM's to go up very quickly, without the speed I would expect at those RPM's. I have to take my foot off the accelerator to allow the transmission to reduce to allow my speed to increase. Too much attention diverted when I have to watch for traffic and animals."
Anonymous, AK (2016 Subaru Forester)"zippy and turns on a dime"
Daniel M., WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration from standing start. Good handling isnow or sand. 34 to 35 mpg highway. Easy in traffic. All seats comfortable. Easy to load and unload. Warms up or cools down fast. Great car."
Anonymous, WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good pickup, good handling"

Anonymous, NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Works fine as expected."
Anonymous, OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"the cvt has alot of lag when going from reverse to drive"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The Forester XT accelerates like a WRX but when it comes to handling it is not a WRX. Subaru's all wheel drive is the best for driving in snowy NH. We have owed lots of all wheel / 4 wheel drive vehicles and Subaru is the best when it comes to bad weather (rain, snow, ice) driving."
Linda P., NH (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration is okay, not great, in the Colorado mountains, and I'm not an aggressive driver."
Anonymous, CO (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration kind of slow. Great traction in snow"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"good acceleration"
Anonymous, BC (2016 Subaru Forester)"jumpy drive, not smooth"
Anonymous, MD (2016 Subaru Forester)"Could use a little more horsepower when merging with traffic on expressway."
Mary K., PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Touchy, inconsistent throttle. I like the great pickup this car provides (especially for a 4-cylinder engine), but sometimes when starting from stop it lurches forward a bit too much, and is somewhat inconsistent in doing so."
Frederick S., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration and turning and handling"
Anonymous, HI (2016 Subaru Forester)"This smaller car drives beautifully both for in town and on the interstates. It accelerates, handles curves, and doesn't even mind passing slower vehicles ie 18 wheelers without faltering. It has all the safety features and that is a TRUE blessing for a lady who drives alone. It even gets approx. 35 mpg when traveling a distance at the speed limit (65 mph) The only problem I have is that the driver's seat is not as comfortable as I'd like...but that factor can be forgiven."
Gloria P., TN (2016 Subaru Forester)"The turbo engine works effortlessly and makes the car a joy to drive."
Len L., CT (2016 Subaru Forester)"EXTREMELY stable in sharp turning, snow, mud, ice, acceleration is nothing short of outstanding and I love the safety features with the cruise control--all of the eyesight features."

Yao J., OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"The Forester handles AMAZING! It is tight, yet rides well. Very controlled with very little lean in the corners. Accelerates excellently for a 4-cylnder engine and gets great mileage. It feels "light on its feet.""
Patrick W., NC (2016 Subaru Forester)"This car handles with ease and comfort. At 125000 miles no problems."
Frances K., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Does fine. Have enough power to stay with the flow of the traffic."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Rapid acceleration, and wonderful handling; feel exceptionally safe while driving"

Anonymous, WI (2016 Subaru Forester)"Very slow to go into gear. Very poor acceleration."
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"Here's what give it great handling: low center of gravity, great visibility from the cockpit, even weight distribution, and all-wheel drive. If you drive on wintry roads, you need a Forester. It's as simple as that."
Anonymous, MT (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling"
M P., QC (2016 Subaru Forester)"You have to rev high generally over 3k to have smooth shifts apart from that car drives and handles well"
Anonymous, NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"See other response"
J K., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Quick acceleration: great for pulling out into heavy traffic. Great turning radius. Steady: doesn't feel like a small car, just drives like one. FUN to drive."
Anonymous, VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"sluggish shifting into drive or reverse and then moving, not very sensitive"
Anonymous, ME (2016 Subaru Forester)"Winter driving it handles snow and ice. I felt comfortable and safe in it"
Anonymous, OR (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration is good, especially getting onto urban highways, where quick decisions and quick lane entry and exit are essential."
Anonymous, TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"The turbocharger engine is excellent but requires premium fuel. The acceleration of the engine is tremendous."
William H., WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"My '16 Forester is the XT edition, which sports a fuel-injected turbo-charged engine and needed/related outfitting with 18" wheels, dual front air takes and rear exhausts etc. Just about as comfortable and easy to operate as a vehicle can be, with excellent audio system, great safety features and such."
Anonymous, AZ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Simply the best vehicle I have ever owned for acceleration handling and also ability to see around the vehicle, which you don't ask about!"
S B., ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"Responds immediately to all commands."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The standard 6 cyl engine has plenty of acceleration, even with two kayaks on the roof. Handling is brisk with great turning radius."
Robert S., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Driving and handling are great. Acceleration is slow when passing a vehicle and sounds like the car is "struggling"."
Brenda C., OK (2016 Subaru Forester)"The transmission provides lots of torque and it accelerates very efficiently. Good for emergency maneuvering. The steering is very responsive and tight! The turning radius is very tight! I will not use Subaru's generic tires, if i buy a new car from them. One winter, with snow falling and accumulating on the road, the driving sensation had a dangerously "swiimmy feel to it". I use Michelin tires. They feel a lot safer."
Anonymous, VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"I live in a mountainous, rural area with almost all of the driving on 2-lane, very curvy and steeply hilly roads. This car has excellent handling and acceleration to cope with those conditions. My only complaint is that the CVT transmission tends to let the engine rpm's drop too soon - I like to keep the engine higher on its torque range."
Kenneth C., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The acceleration is very good for the gasoline mileage I get. It has also been very reliable."
Gary P., TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"excellent driving/handling in all conditions, from freeway to rough forest roads/offroad."
Nelson V., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"I love the way it takes curve very tight"

Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Great driving experience."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"It responds very well and has a nice balance of feeling the road but also being comfortable. The acceleration is great."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Outside rear view windows are too far back when seat is forward - need to turn head a lot. Dash instruments hard to see in Florida bright light. Passenger air bag will not turn on when thicker back brace is used - safety hazard."
Anonymous, FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration is excellent; can maintain speed up steep hills."
Jack V., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good acceleration and very good handling."
Anonymous, AL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Touchy acceleration."
Mary S., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"it handles well but the acceleration is slow and sluggish. I have to floor the car to get up to speed getting on the freeway, e.g. I blame this on the CVT"
Anonymous, AZ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Love the right thumb action, putting the automatic stop on. Also love the bell that tells me the car in front has moved or there is danger ahead even when automatic is no on."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Too sensitive to throttle when first starting out, then slow. Handling is safe but in no way sporty. Feels tippy, but there is actually a good amount of grip."
Paul M., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"The CVT transmission is mediocre, at best. There's an annoying time lag when shifting into D (Drive) from a stop going forward or backing up. The CVT is slow to accelerate compared to an automatic trans."
Ken K., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"acceleration very good for small engine Steering & handling very good"
Anonymous, SK (2016 Subaru Forester)"Lack of acceleration on emergency situations"
Anonymous, GA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handles well in snow and rain. Love the fact that it beeps at me when I swerve and slows down when I approach another vehicle in front of me when I have the cruise control on."
Anonymous, WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"With the boxer engine, acceleration is jerky. I usually put it into low gear from a start, then move the gear shift over to drive. The dealer says this cannot be adjusted with this type of engine."
Mark J., VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"This vehicle has been excellent for driving in snow."
Richard B., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The 4-cylinder engine has adequate acceleration but is not sporty, and handling is average. The Forester has a very tight turning radius. The CVT transmission is very smooth."

Anonymous, NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Could get better milage. Especially in winter. Takes a Long time to warm up when its below 20 degF. Between the winter blend and slow warmup there is definitely a milage penalty."
Alfred G., MA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration & handling in rainy & snowy weather."
Anonymous, OR (2016 Subaru Forester)"We don't ever get snow, but one day last winter it snowed and I was surprised how easily the car handled it. You can't tell that the streets were covered w/ snow. It also rains a lot pretty heavy and the car just goes through it like it's a sunny day. Even when it hit puddles, it keeps going down the road straight. I have a 6 speed manual and I love it! It drives really well and has exceptional handling when you can control the engine speed. I hear that Subaru is going to discontinue ALL manual transmissions and this is very sad!"
Bill S., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"It has good pick up handles nicely on the road. We feel very safe in this car."
W B., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"It drives and handles very good along with good acceleration."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"It has decent acceleration for the gas milage it achieves. It has a very comfortable ride, and is very safe because of the four wheel drive."
Chris C., GA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The Forester just plods along. It doesn't accelerate quickly, although the top speed is fine for the vehicle (faster than one should drive it). But it does keep going in most things you can throw at it, better with a load in it. Which is why we bought it in the first place."
David M., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Responsiveness"
Anonymous, IL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Ease of handling, acceptable acceleration. Confortable. Great feeling of safety."
Henry H., GA (2016 Subaru Forester)"One of the main factors in buying the Forester is that it is one of the few mainstream cars with manual transmission still available. It drives well, has more than adequate power and is fun to drive."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Subaru Forester)"i am very satisfied with all of these."
Anonymous, MB (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling is great. Acceleration could be better. The engine has good torque and can handle hills in cruise control in 6th gear without slowing down. Would like better acceleration."
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"In an emergency, my forester does not respond to an immediate acceleration; it struggles to find its Ć¢ā¬ÅgoĆ¢ā¬Āæ motion, thus making it unsafe. In an emergency, seconds count and I only pray, I never have such situation because instead IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ll be waisting precious moments to get out of the car instead."
J L., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"The cvt takes getting used to."
James M., VA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Car is east to drive, no problem in rain or snow,"

Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Transmission is slow to get into gear when accelerating. The CVT transmission is sorely lacking."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"with all wheel drive it handles very well. It has lower horsepower but the transmission really helps lower speed acceleration. it is slower to accelerate at 60-70 MPH, but that is not a factor that often."
Anonymous, AR (2016 Subaru Forester)"It merges well and has more power than I expected for a 4 cylinder vehicle. The vision system with the cruise control is very good. I would buy it again."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The vehicle drives very well including breaking and steering."
Terrence M., CT (2016 Subaru Forester)"When first starting out, the car seems to over steer when turning suddenly, like the car darts in the direction I steer. Almost feels like it wants to roll. I have asked the dealer to check it more than three times. I have driven over a million miles in 56+ years of driving -- all kinds of vehicles. I know how a car is supposed to handle, and this is not how. After the first 15 or 20 minutes I don't notice it. The tires are properly inflated, and have good tread."
Richard S., MO (2016 Subaru Forester)"There is plenty of power when merging and maneuvering through traffic lanes. It handles very well."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"I'm very pleased with the acceleration and handling of the Subaru Forester. Although I am a very cautious driver, I have always opted for the most power offered with a car model. I went from a 6 cylinder Toyota RAV 4 to the 4 cylinder Subaru Forester with some reluctance, however, I am very impressed with the power and acceleration of the Forester."
Anonymous, NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Has very fast acceleration. I am not a fast driver but noticed I am way ahead of other drivers when take off after light turns green."

Garry H., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The steering is very responsive. Braking is dependable. It accelerates quickly and easily."
Laura S., WI (2016 Subaru Forester)"The continuously variable transmission creates an odd jerking feel when slowing down prior to braking. It has good acceleration on the highway however."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration and handling for a SUV is fine. Safety record is exceptional."
Jeffrey P., WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Drives and handles very responsively and exceptional visibility. I feel very safe in the vehicle."
Anonymous, NC (2016 Subaru Forester)"The all-wheel drive system is exceptional. While I haven't used my Forester off road, I find the all-wheel drive to make a very noticeable difference. When driving in wet or slick conditions, the wheels still never break traction. Even when purposely try to do so."
Norman H., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"reliability is very good computer system (lights telling when some is wrong when it isn't) needs work on"
Anonymous, TX (2016 Subaru Forester)"handles well . the sun visors are not very effective when the sun shines in the top centre of the windshield. the visors are small because of the eyesight tech. they have extenders but are useless because you must bend down to see out the windshield. Check one out!"
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"I have a manual transmission Forester, and the handling is fantastic. With winter tires, I've been able to drive on roads that have literally caused snow plows, police cars, and fire trucks to all end up in ditches. Acceleration, on the other hand, is mediocre at best - but I'll take handling over acceleration any day."
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good road car.Very good in snow & ice conditions."
Anonymous, NV (2016 Subaru Forester)"It accelerates quickly but the throttle is touchy on startup."
Anonymous, OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"AWD. Is glue to the road, does not matter if 12 inches of snow or ice or a torrential rain storm. This is the Best Car I have ever owned."
Christopher C., VT (2016 Subaru Forester)"The Forester handles like a car but has the height of an SUV. This is an important factor in my wife's comfort with driving the vehicle every day. The all wheel drive makes me comfortable that she can get home safely in bad weather."

William B., PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Does very well"
Anonymous, IL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling is relatively good; acceleration could be better, and it is loud when accelerating. Performance in snow and ice is excellent, which is why I like Subarus as an east coast resident."

Alan R., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"fishtails on icy roads."
Anonymous, SD (2016 Subaru Forester)"a normal level of acceleration away from a stop sign or signal light is almost impossible in city traffic. It takes too much pedal input to get the car to go then if you let up because of a turn or because the car in front isn't a jack rabbit then you have to let off the gas. The transmission then upshifts (lower cvt ratio) and then the car WILL NOT accelerate. I can be unsafe at times. When I complain at the dealership they just say "that is the way it is with a CVT. Well... my father in law has a 2005 Ford Freestyle with a similar transmission and it isn't this way."
Kent C., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"It drives like a car and has an amazing turning radius. It feels like my previous car which was a mitsubishi lancer"

Priscilla J., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Easy to handle, good grip on the road, easy to merge onto highway"
Dale C., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Outstanding handling and surprising acceleration."
Anonymous, AB (2016 Subaru Forester)"We love driving this Subaru! It is just plain fun! I call it "Zippy". It is several hundred pounds lighter than the Outback we have, and that translates into better acceleration and maneuvering. The short wheelbase makes the ride a little less comfortable, but considerably better off road. It's fun to get to work on time when others have stayed home due to "weather"."

Patricia K., OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"smooth continuously variable transmission adequate power good road feel"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"The problem lies in the inconsistent gas pedal. We've been told this is part of the "drive by wire" system. However, the gas pedal does not respond smoothly when starting or backing up. You learn to use a very light touch to avoid surging, but sometimes the vehicle won't move with that level of pressure and more pressure is needed, leading to moving more quickly than expected."

Anonymous, CO (2016 Subaru Forester)"The ride is bouncy and acceleration is uneven. It takes a lot of muscle to handle. There's a lot of play in the steering wheel, and any wind buffets the car a lot more than I experienced in my CRV. It just seems overall flimsier than my dusty old 2003 CRV."
Anonymous, WI (2016 Subaru Forester)"new cvs transmission. hated the previous automatics. this has improved my experience esp when getting on freeways"

Anonymous, AK (2016 Subaru Forester)"Some excessive wind noise and wandering in cross winds"
CHUCK R., AZ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Subaru has really upped their game with their most recent continuously variable transmission. That plus AWD means for better acceleration than any 2.5L crossover SUV has any right to have. The handling (double-lane-change, decreasing-radius corners, etc) is excellent for its class as well, bested only by the Mazda CX-5 (which falls short in other areas)."
Anonymous, WA (2016 Subaru Forester)"I found the Forester is "bouncy" over the road and the steering extremely sensitive."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Surprised by acceleration and gas mileage! Note: I bought it in part because of Consumer Reports review, thanks!"
DAVID A., OR (2016 Subaru Forester)"I have adaptive cruise control & lane departure which makes trips more relaxing. I no longer need to worry about proper spacing/tail-gating. Handling is very good and solid. Acceleration is excellent."
RICHARD K., NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"There is a noticable hesitation during the first 3 minutes of driving, You have to be cautious pulling out into traffic. The cvt transmission is not responsive when merging into rush hour traffic. It has a dangerous lack of power because the cvt will not change the gear ratio quick enough. The dealership knows it is a calibration issue but claims Subaru says it is part of what makes a Subaru a Subaru. I bought the vehicle because of it's symmetrical awd for Colorado driving, that is very i"
BART W., CO (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration is strange feeling due to the type of drive train. The turning radius is fantastic and the high ground clearance helps on our terrible streets."
CHRISTENA N., LA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration problem mentioned in the previous question's response. When accelerating uphill at 35 mph, I feel it shift up and down not knowing where it should be - irritating! It seems to handle OK, although I haven't put it through any difficult situations"

MARY S., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"Too much of a sporty feel. I prefer a sedan."
WARREN W., NH (2016 Subaru Forester)"When driving in slow traffic or backed up traffic and have to move slowly the engine hesitates and the car bucks a little. I'm just assuming it's due to the type of engine and the fact it's a 4 cylinder."

Anonymous, NE (2016 Subaru Forester)"When you put the car into gear, either forward or reverse, there are a few seconds of waiting time before it kicks in. I am told this is due to the CRV transmission and is normal. However, I prefer the instant response with the old transmission types."
Anonymous, OR (2016 Subaru Forester)"Drove 3600 miles round trip to Texas from California by myself. This was the most comfortable car I have owned. I used the variable cruise control and "eyesight" most of the way. I am 78 and loved every minute of the drive. Love my Subaru."
JOY W., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"It seems to handle very well and acceleration works just dandy. I don't plan to take it on a race track."

ROBERT C., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"The 4 cylinder is much better on acceleration than expected."
RANDY P., IN (2016 Subaru Forester)"Drove it in mountains that had snow. The Subaru Forester did an excellent job with snow and ice."
RANDY H., KS (2016 Subaru Forester)"I like that I could get the manual transmission and the acceleration is pretty good. I like to take turns a little too quick because of the AWD and have never had an issue or been worried about something happening other than making the turn. Fun to drive"
JEREMIAH H., MD (2016 Subaru Forester)"Some reviews I have read complain about the lack of acceleration. I access the highway from a 2 lane outer road that has a left lane for highway access, the right lane to stay on the outer road. People see a white haired older woman and think they can peel away from the light from the 'straight ahead' lane and cut in front of me - WRONG! Acceleration works just fine!!"
Anonymous, MO (2016 Subaru Forester)"Ride is stiff, feel all the bumps, otherwise very satisfied."
Anonymous, AL (2016 Subaru Forester)"As it shifts from forward to reverse or vice versa, there is a delay, sometimes from 3 to 4 seconds. It also rolls. I have been almost hit twice because I couldn't get out of the way fast enough in shifting from Drive to Reverse. 3 seconds is a long time when someone is backing towards your door and won't stop. In talking to my dealer and emailing Subaru, I have been told that this is normal for this belt driven transmission. I have driven other belt driven transmissions (Subarus) that don't"
GAIL D., WI (2016 Subaru Forester)"Great steering and pickup."
ED J., FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"one of the few manual transmission SUVs on the market. That is what sold us on it compared to the RAV4. We love manual transmission, even at our age in our mid 50s"
ERCOLE B., WY (2016 Subaru Forester)"The Forester XT is much more than practical transportation. It is an absolute blast to drive! The power is there when you need it. Acceleration is is quick, smooth, and quite. This car drives and handles far better than my friend's luxury branded CUV."
MICHAEL H., AR (2016 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration & handling are excellent. Very responsive"
ARTHUR R., PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Great gas milage for an AWD vehicle, very nice ride and great visability from the cabin. Probably the best CVT transmission we've owned, much better than Nissan cars."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Currently still in a learning phase, but the "eyesight" system is beneficial. Seems very competent in cornering and has excellent visibility in all directions"
Anonymous, ON (2016 Subaru Forester)"I really like the Constant Velocity Transmission. There's no constant down shifting when climbing grades Plus you get up to horsepower/RPM levels quickly when merging into traffic from an on-ramp."
GARY S., CO (2016 Subaru Forester)"The CV transmission works flawlessly on level highways, however its lack of engine braking makes mountain driving less secure than in my 2001 Subaru Forester with standard transmission. The electric power steering in the 2016 Subaru also gives somewhat less less road feel than the hydraulic power steering in my 2001 Subaru Forester. I choose the CV transmission in the 2016 Subaru because it was necessary to get the EyeSight frontal collision option."

Anonymous, MD (2016 Subaru Forester)"Turbo, power and solidity"
Anonymous, QC (2016 Subaru Forester)"The acceleration on the XT Forester is far superior to any of the other models and nearly as good as my Chrysler 300 8-cylinder. Also, for a car this size, it has an outstanding turning radius, nearly as good as my wife's Mercedes sedan."
LEONARD L., CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"Handling is good, ride is definitely better than the 2010 model that this Forester replaces. All the newest safety features, including Eysight. Mileage is much better with the CVT, and that transmission is not as annoying as some CVT's. Original tires were okay, but suffered two punctures, and upgraded to Continentals. Better ride and handling."
K K., ME (2016 Subaru Forester)"Good car with one exception. Older drivers often have declining vision. It is very difficult to see speedometer in daytime.(turning on lights does not help) I have put bright stickers with speeds so I can tell how fastI am going. Don't have this problem with other vehicles. Very aggervating."
Anonymous, NC (2016 Subaru Forester)"With the six speed manual transmission, and as a life long driver of cars with a manual transmission, I have never missed so many down-gearing changes in the 3rd/4th gear area. Not exactly smooth, as all of our VWs have been. Too bad!!!!"
Anonymous, AB (2016 Subaru Forester)"The only issue I have with acceleration is when initially shifting into drive. There is always a lag between when I shift and when the transmission engages in drive. This is not an issue when I shift into reverse or when I am starting from idle without shifting into drive."
DONALD S., OH (2016 Subaru Forester)"The car tends to jump a little from the stop position."
DONALD E., NY (2016 Subaru Forester)"This is our third or fourth Subaru and it is a joy to drive. Precise handling, decent acceleration, quiet."
Anonymous, MT (2016 Subaru Forester)"This SUV handles like a sports car. Inclusion of paddle shifters work great for slowing for fast corners. CVT transmission is awesome and works so well the gas mileage is an unbelievable 7.6 Liters / 100 Kms!"
Anonymous, AB (2016 Subaru Forester)"Coming from aHondaAccord, the handling required getting used to. The Honda was quite sporty in handling but with the higher center of gravity corners need to be taken more slowly. However with the additional height off the ground visibility is terrific, and there is better control of glare Dom oncoming headlights. On the whole it is an even trade"
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Subaru Forester)"Love the turning radius. Love the backup camera. My parallel parking performance has really improved."

Anonymous, AB (2016 Subaru Forester)"i DO NOT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS (IT KEEPS GOING FASTER THAN I WANT IT TO). WHEN I BACK UP, HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE GOING FORWARD."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Subaru Forester)"delay in shift change between reverse and drive. automatic slow down hampers maneuverability in heavy traffic. Lane departure not reliable and seems to go off inappropriately. I've turned off collision support. sluggish acceleration. Should have bought turbo."

Anonymous, FL (2016 Subaru Forester)"Heating system in winter isn't so great; apparently a known problem with Foresters, I was told. BUT: put it in 2 feet of snow and it will absolutely prove itself - the independent all-wheel drive in this car is amazing, I kept going straight even when the wheels were slipping alot, no loss of steering control at all. Tests (including CR's) demonstrate that it is the best of all the other same-size SUVs; I believe it!"

P B., PA (2016 Subaru Forester)"There is a delay from Park or Reverse to Drive. More delay on one new Forester than on the other. On occasion you step on the accelerator and nothing happens for one or two seconds. I feel this could be dangerous in an emergency situation. Dealer says this is a characteristic of the CVT transmission. It is more noticeable on one car than the other."
