The SUV-like Outback is a Subaru Legacy with added ground clearance that's suitable for the dirt or snow. The 2005 redesign has brought more upscale features such as an automatic climate control and an oversized sunroof in Limited trim. The 2.5i is a bit sluggish, but handling is agile and the responsive steering has good feel. The ride is supple, controlled, and quiet. The Outback tends to slide its rear end at its cornering limits. The costly VDC model is the only version with stability control.
