Subaru XV Crosstrek

The Crosstrek is basically an Impreza hatchback with a higher ride height, added body cladding, and large wheels intended to give it a more rugged look. The regular Crosstrek's 148-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine helps it deliver a frugal 26 mpg overall, which made it among the most fuel-efficient SUVs in the class during its time. But this compact vehicle doesn't provide as much cargo room as most small SUVs.

What Owners Say

"Vehicle is under-powered."

ROBERT S., FL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Poor acceleration. Slow to get up to speed...Good MPG though. Terrible visability. Rear view mirror in line of sight of taller driver."

Anonymous, WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"LOVE the paddle shifters and the ability to downshift from the steering wheel. It's led to better handling, economy, and safer driving."

Anonymous, WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Acceleration is not too lively, but what one would expect from its smallish engine. Handling is outstanding. The ride is a bit stiff and the car is rather noisy; these are OK for the way I use it, rarely going more than ten miles at a time, but I wouldn't want to take it on a multi-hour drive."

DAVID H., IL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Somewhat underpowered when merging with free way traffic. The CVT transmission is annoying at times."

Anonymous, MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Acceleration is pretty good. Outstanding handling during snow storms"

L R., PA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"sometimes slow to accelerate, engine sounds like it works too hard during acceleration"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The accelerator is touchy when starting from a stop. I test drove the Imprezza and it was tuned differently to ease into the start."

Anonymous, KS (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Not much power for accelerating to enter highway lanes. Engine has to race and strain to accelerate."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"For driving around town the Crosstrek's horsepower is fine but the vehicle is a bit underpowered and that is more noticeable during highway driving, especially if the air conditioning is being used at the same time."

DAVID M., CO (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"4-wheel drive and higher clearance needed for job"

Robert N., WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Acceleration can be sluggish, for example when merging onto the highway. Handling is good in all kinds of weather."

David M., CO (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"GOOD: handling - styling - reliability - door access BAD: needs a more powerful engine for accerlation"

Craig B., NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"This car is seriously underpowered. It's basically an Impreza that's been tricked out with body cladding but the horsepower was not increased to compensate for the added weight, so the acceleration is practically nonexistent. I can't make it up a steep hill with the air conditioner running!"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"If A/C is on, acceleration lacks punch."

Anonymous, VA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"2 liter is gutless. Would not have purchased this vehicle with CVT. You can dig for gears w/MT, but it is still very, very marginal. Considering size and height of vehicle, handling is very good and outstanding of gravel forest service roads."

Anonymous, WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The "Traction control" works best when turned off. Always done daily for winter driving and anytime you want the AWD to work better. That is if your a driver and do not want computers to interfere. The first winter I drove this car I discovered this "feature" should be defaulted as off. It turns out it brakes and more if it thinks traction is what? Makes me want my 2003 Forester back. Who makes the better AWD system and makes it worse by adding this feature that takes away your control? I test drive my next vehicle in the winter, during a storm."

David D., MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Snow builds up in the wheel wells sometimes causing steering difficult"

Anonymous, ME (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Acceleration is adequate for a small 4-cylinder car, and handling is good but not great"

Anonymous, VA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Needs more power or better gearing"

John E., CO (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"i like the subie and have owned 2 others. this car has NO power and i'm not sold on the CVT transmission yet?"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"great confidence on the highway, does not feel like a small car"

Anonymous, WI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Very good for country roads and trails, great mileage, only fair acceleration"

Dennis B., SK (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"See my previous comments."

David C., MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"the engine noise is loud, accelerating up to speed is not very responsive."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Leather seatbacks don't have enough lumbar support for me."

L S., IN (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Heating and cooling is slow to cool and heat. Drivers side foot area doesn't get much air even when set for that. In somewhat noisy also"

Anonymous, MO (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Noise on highway is very loud and heat from sun through windshield very uncomfortable requiring use of a/c 3 seasons of year, and a/c weak."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Road Noise is a little distracting when on certain types of pavement due to the tires"

ROBERT C., NC (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The A/C system and heater system is weak."

DAVID C., PA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The man driving this car is 6'6" and fits."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Seats are not comfortable and the ride is very noisy. Also, the stereo system is poor quality. I just exspected a better quality car for the price and brand."

GWEN R., ND (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Love everything about it except that it's a bit noisy inside."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Noise - road noise is pretty noticeable, especially at higher speeds. Also, Bluetooth phone - people on the other end of the call say it sounds like I'm in a tank or tin can; road noise also affects the call (I had to put myself on mute during a conference call because the others said there was noise on my siide)"

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The non-leather seat upholstery stains very easily, holds stains, and is difficult to clean."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Very bumpy ride. My husband took it back to the dealership twice to see if something was wrong with the suspension system but was told nothing was wrong."

Anonymous, VA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"I find the pedals a bit short relative to the distance of the steering wheel. If find it more comfortable if the pedals were a bit 'taller' to allow for a fuller extension of my arms when driving. The steering wheel is already depressed as much as possible. Seats are very comfortable."

Anonymous, BC (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"I was in an accident that changed where my head hits on the head rest. Adjustment on the head rest will not go low enough for my needs so now I have to sit on a cushion to get the right position for my head on the head rest. When raising or lowering the seat position, the whole seat moves; would be nice to have just the seat portion raising or lowering."

ANNE C., ON (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Front seats are very comfortable and easy to take over a long drive. Love the heat option in the winter."

JUDITH M., OH (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Front seat adjustability is minimal and cushioning sparse. It makes long distance traveling a bit difficult. Cruise control helps to enable an occasional shift in position."

D L., CT (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Blue tooth very hard to set up, still do not have it working with my latest Samsung phone. Poor interior lighting, one candle power bulb No temperature gauge but 3 different ways to check MPG, the instant fuel economy gauge is a waste, wish I had a temperature gauge instead."

JOHN S., WI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Road noise is very loud. Unable to hold conversation if driving over 50 miles per hour."

Anonymous, VT (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The seats are very comfortable for long trips. The road noise can be heard too much."

Anonymous, MN (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Road noise is DEAFENING"

JOSEPH B., KY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"There is more road noise than I would like. I'm some what hard of hearing and it makes it harder to carry on a conversation with some one in the other front seat."

Anonymous, WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Ride is a bit stiff and cabin a bit noisy."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Very noisy cabin. Very little sound deadening insulation between cabin and engine."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Noise is horrible. If traveling over 30mph, road noise is way too loud. Factory installed audio also lacking quality."

Anonymous, VA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"This is first year of crosstrek & vehicle has MT. It is EXTREMELY noisy, which I understand was improved in 2014. I prefer seats and interior of this vehicle to 2007 Outback, so this smaller vehicle is the one we take on long trips"

Anonymous, WA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Door opening not tall enough to let me enter without hitting my head. I'm 5'10". Driver seat barely goes back enough to be comfortable"

Anonymous, MA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Seats not particularly comfortable, especially on long rides. Lots of cabin noises, clunks, rattles, etc. Some wind noise. Complaints that the Bluetooth connection is not very clear, sounds like road noise."

Dennis R., CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Ride is fairly comfortable on a variety of road surfaces. During highway driving the noise levels can be high."

David M., CO (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The seats are a little on the hard side and somewhat uncomfortable for long drives"

Anonymous, NC (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"seat comfort is poor, not made for Americans"

Anonymous, WI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"I miss the extra lumbar support in the driver's seat - noise level is ok - could be quieter - good firm ride that I like"

Craig B., NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"I feel this car has very comfortable seats, but the ride is quite bumpy and there is a lot of road noise."

Mary K., WI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Noise. difficult to get in and out"

Anonymous, ME (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"the car is noisy"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"All-wheel drive and overall quality of the vehicle is the best for the money paid."

FRANK B., NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Excellent enonomy"

GARY P., NV (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The car is great on gas, on appearance, on responsiveness, ...on everything for approx. $ 300 monthly."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"As a retired senior citizen, living in a 4 season state, this car performs so well that I feel confident when I drive it."

Anonymous, MT (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"To me it was expensive, but the only one I found under $20K because of color and imperfections."

DAVID D., MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Having owned 10 Subaru's since 1990 I can attest to their high level of reliability. This coupled with their comparatively low pricing and demand as used cars leads to a remarkable value."

D L., CT (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"It's noisy"

DEAN H., RI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"I think the car was overpriced (I paid too much) which is the biggest reason I would not buy this car again."

MICHAEL M., MA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Mileage +++ Road holding +++"

CRAIG C., CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"This car was inexpensive when we bought it and has been extremely reliable. It's very practical, and the all-wheel-drive is literally a life-saver. My only complaint is that the gas mileage is not as good as I had hoped. Acceleration is modest, but it goes from 0-20 mph quickly, which is great for city driving."

David H., IL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Excellent - long lasting and reasonably priced initially."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Otho got else in it’s. Class for the price."

Anonymous, NV (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"A very reliable car, if you do the scheduled maintenance."

Charles H., PA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"This is the first car that I've owned where I can use a Bluetooth."

Anonymous, MD (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"great value"

Anonymous, NL (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Very good value; would but another."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Good value for the money compared to other competitors. Better vehicle compared to domestic SUV's, in my opinion. It is excellent on snow & ice with all-season tires, and we get a lot of that here in Northern Michigan. Air conditioning is somewhat "weak", but acceptable. The Crosstrek has a lot of ground clearance (8.7"), and that makes a big difference in the winter. The Crosstrek is also very easy to get in and out of. Overall, a great car and it has exceeded my expectations"

David C., MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"All wheel drive High ground clearance known safety value"

Anonymous, ON (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Excellent quality vehicle for a very reasonable price"

Anonymous, VA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Decent value, good mileage, but ride comfort and in-cabin noise really detracts from value."

Dennis R., CA (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Very typical style of an SUV today, without the enlarged brand badge, I would noticed it was a Subaru."

DAVID D., MI (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"When I first bought this car I was often asked about this car and how I liked it. At that time there were few on the road and it has a sporty look"

Anonymous, CT (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"it has a good style, people comment on it being a good looking vehicle"

FRANK P., OR (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"Very Good Looking vehicle."

PHIL C., AB (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"The styling is contemporary, clean lines and well thoughtout."

JUDITH M., OH (2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek)

"No underfloor storage in back."
