Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

All powertrains -- the 2.5-liter, 178-hp four-cylinder, the optional 3.5-liter, 268-hp V6, and the 200-hp four-cylinder hybrid -- carried over from the previous model. The hybrid powertrain is the pinnacle of the lineup for fuel economy, delivering an impressive 38 mpg overall in our tests. V6 models also return very competitive fuel economy -- 24 mpg overall. On the other hand, the base four-cylinder's 27 mpg was a lot more impressive back in 2011 when it was introduced.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2013 Toyota Camry owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Rear sensors are very fragile. Some one tapped our rear bumper, no visible damage but sensors had to be replaced, they cost about $800. each. The entire bill was over $3,000. Since it was a lease I had to repair. I will never buy this type system ag"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Toyota Camry)

"My blind spot monitor failed. The dealer's mechanic had difficulty diagnosing the problem. It took two tries before the issue was resolved"

Barry S., PA (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Blind spot monitor. Works on and off. I think the problem is a loose wire. Toyota has NOT been able to find what the specific problem is, I have brought the vehicle to the dealership about 6 times. I've basically given up trying to get this fixed, do"

Bob B., NC (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Blind spot monitor stopped working"

Anonymous, MO (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Blind spot monitor system. It seems to heat up and then stop working. It has not been replaced because I haven't been able to have it inoperable when I take the car to the dealer. I am going to have to get the Service Manager involved as the Custo"

"Blind Spot Monitoring system fails intermittently. Has been repaired once. And is now failing again"

Martin B., KS (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The BSM system malfunctions on and off. Tried Dealer service and they say it's working. We know its not because when it is working the light on the dash goes out when it is not the light comes on and there are no warnings"

John D., CO (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)

"The backup video display is either not available or is partially covered by warning messages or other notifications, limiting the visibility and the effectiveness when first starting the vehicle -- to leave a parking space, driveway, garage, etc"

Peter L., OR (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
CD player

"Used rarely, now will not recognize disc and is unable to play CD."

Display screen freezes up

"see previous comments!"

Kevin R., OR (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Same as everybody else has reported. It freezes, becomes inoperable for anything on the system, sometimes lasts several days. I hate the system. Obviously has problems since I have seen many complaints for all models with this system"

Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Display not in sync with selected function, causing radio stations not to properly display, and some general distortion across the display."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Display screen goes blank

"This has a connection with headlight settings. When I`ve been on the road awhile the audio/car screen lights go out unless I turn on the headlights directly... or turn them off. I haven't asked service to fix it... just lived with it, but it's annoying."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"gave incorrect directions"

Bob L., (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Too many to describe. Fundamentally, they should have outsourced to Garmin. The GPS thinks I am in the middle of the Hudson River when I am miles away. I use the GPS on my phone instead. They should design the system to be a GUI for my phone"

Kenneth C., NY (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"It occasionally gives completely erroneous voice directions, sending you off in the completely wrong direction. Toyota acknowledges this and will do nothing about it"

David R., VA (2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Not logical inputting destination address (city, state, street, street number, etc.) No prompt as to what to input (e.g. do I out the street name or address number first?). When I input the zip code, it sometimes gives me other than the correct zip"

Bernard W., CA (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The issue was observed in 2015, but then disappeared. In 2016, it has developed into a permanent problem. After starting car, Bluetooth works for 3-5 minutes then it stops (all functions, not only the phone pairing). Many customers experienced similar problems with Toyotas (mostly Camries) since 2012 models, according to the Web. It is probably a design defect. Dealers had no means to diagnose it reliably or to fix, blaming the customers (e.g., blame their phones). My dealer has s"

Rudolf G., MA (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Often times the bluetooth will not connect to the phone last used. As well at time the quality of phone calls is very poor and difficult to communicate with whomever is on the other line"

Matthew M., IL (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Will not pair with ANY phone when I try to connect. Message is displayed that Bluetooth failed to connect every time I start the car."

Anonymous, VT (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It is a known defect of Toyota Camry built around 2013. The paring works while the car is garaged. But if the car was left in outdoors parking on hot or cold day, the phone pairing has problems. Once I start the car, phone pairs for 2-3 minutes, then the connection is lost. The Toyota dealer at first refused to recognize the problem (about 4 years ago). Then they have admitted that the problem exists, but they cannot fix it. The problem was serendipitously fixed after the software has been updated under recall (about 3 years ago). After this, when I am really sick and tired that I cannot use hands-off call option, I scream at the service station, they reboot my car computer, and the problem is resolved - until the next outdoor parking on cold or hot weather. Outside rain, driving in snow or rain conditions do not cause the problem. Hence, this is not a condensation-caused. Check the Internet. Many drivers experience this problem."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The screen does not respond to touch on the bottom half inch, so phone pairing is not possible. This is a known issue with Camry touch screens."

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Toyota Camry 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The phone does not always pair when starting the car. This is, not only frustrating, but dangerous if I am driving while trying to make a call and have to try to figure out why the phone was not paired and correct it"

SUSn P., CA (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)

"Pairing the phone is OK. It takes a while to connect and the connection is not clear. To overcome this problem I park the car , stop the engine if I want to make a call."

Rasiah M., ON (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"This is obviously a design defect, because many owners of recent makes of Camry complain on the Web about similar trouble with Bluetooth connectivity. Obviously, Toyota does nothing about it. (I have complained to the dealer.) My current arrangement with the repair shop is that they reset the computer. After this, the system works fine - until the first too hot or too cold day. When the defect is present, Bluetooth connectivity works for 1-3 minutes after I start my car, then shuts down. Sometimes it repairs itself (after several days with moderate temperature and the car in garage). BTW, the voice synthesizer, the voice recognition, the guidance system - all are worse in the 2013 Camry than they were in my previous 2007 Camry."

Rudolf G., MA (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
Radio

"Radio reception was bad. Problem that they couldn't find for 4yrs was bad antenna connection in rear window which the manufacturer finally said was problem with this model which they fixed for no cost"

Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The radio control system is impossible to operate due to it's complexity. The speakers are tinny and sound cheap. The radio barely receives a local radio signal Cannot set the radio to more than one local radio station, Radio and CD player is totally junk. Wish I had never bought the car. Our second complaint is overall road noise while driving. We have to raise our voices as we drive along. My previous Camrys were quiet in comparison. Will not purchase another Toyota product!"

Anonymous, CT (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Radio would shut off. Replaced radio"

Anonymous, CT (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)
