Toyota Prius 2007 4-door hatchback

The Prius has excellent fuel economy, acceleration, and interior room. It couples a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor and automatically switches between them or runs on both as needed. The engine shuts off at idle and the car can run on electric power at low speeds. Regenerative braking recharges the battery while coasting or braking. We got 44 mpg overall in our tests. Ride and handing are competent, but the steering feels vague. Reliability is outstanding. A rear camera is available and highly recommended. Side and curtain air bags are now standard, but electronic stability control is just optional.

Safety Equipment

ABS standard. Side and head protection air bags available, standard from 2007. ESC available from 2004, standard from 2010. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking available from 2010, standard from 2017.
