The Tacoma is a reliable workhorse but a poor choice as an everyday passenger vehicle. The Tacoma has a fairly refined and efficient powertrain, competent brakes, and better fuel economy than many small pickups. With the off-road-oriented suspension and tires, it's also one of the best off-road vehicles we've experienced. The downside, though, is a poor ride and clumsy handling.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“The exterior styling of Toyota Tacoma changed with the 2005 model. Everyone hangs on to the earlier models becuz the new styling and coloring of Toyota trucks is just plain ugly.”

“It is quiet”

Anonymous, OR (2000 Toyota Tacoma)

“Looks nice, easy to enter and exit with wide doors”

J V., CO (2000 Toyota Tacoma)

“This is not a 2000, it is a 1999, great in almost all areas, seats Too low and uncomfortable, narrow sun-visors prevent driving West, sun will be on your face, front bumper will break with a Kick, load will fall off truck if little overloaded, it could use two Extra springs on rear end. 19-22 MPG ave.”
