What Owners Say
"Acceleration/power could be better."
Anonymous, CO (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceleration not fabulous, but I don't need that. 4 wheel drive can get me anywhere in snow or mud, feel very secure in it."
Anonymous, NM (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Added a TRD Supercharger to get increased mileage and acceleration."
CHARLES H., UT (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Very Peppy when needing to pass and maneuver"
Anonymous, CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"This is a 4 cylinder and has no pick-up, using the cruise control on the highway causes the engine to over work do to the hilly nature of my area."
JANICE B., PA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"I choose the bigger engine for power, and its acceleration is fantastic. The gas mileage sucks. Also, when carrying any weight it looses all power. Today, big trucks get better gas mileage than I do and can carry much more."
Anonymous, CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"peppy motor, fun to handle on short trips"
Anonymous, TN (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Four-cylinder engine is grossly under powered for this vehicle. Acceleration from a stop is slow and unpredictable."
Anonymous, GA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Good: smooth power and shifting bad: numb handling"
Anonymous, NC (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Not much power in my model but this was a conscious choice in order to get optimal mpg in a pick up"
Anonymous, NM (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"This is the worst, roughest riding vehicle of all of my cars."
ALLEN S., TX (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"A 6-cylinder would have been better for acceleration and load carrying."
BILL G., CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Although only a six cylinder I've used it to pull a dual-axle trailer 600 miles at highway speeds with no adverse affect. The truck just keeps on going."
Anonymous, OK (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"2001 vehicle and have had very few issues after 179,000 miles. Radio and clock no longer work but that is to be expected. For a 4 cyl it does fine getting on the freeway. Only issue is the mph (19) and the fact I am constantly being asked to assist in house moves."
Dave R., CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Good acceleration"
Anonymous, HI (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Great 4WD performance off road."
Anonymous, OH (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"I use the truck to haul product for outdoor landscape projects. with a manual transmission, I have adequate power control and acceleration when needed"
Todd L., TX (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Even after 17 years the Tacoma still has good acceleration from the V-6. Handling is good for a truck - it's very easy to maneuver in traffic and in a crowded parking lot."
Brent M., IN (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"The engine still has no issue. It handles well, and it accelerates as it did when i first got."
Wesley S., IL (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Great acceleration. Handling is very good for a truck"
Anonymous, CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Handles well with light, or heavy loads. Remains stable in buffeting winds. Engine adequate for heavy loads, but not enough H.P. when entering onto heavy Interstate traffic, even without a load. The 4 cylinder engine is a bit too small."
Robert G., OH (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"It is a 5 speed manual transmission and has excellent acceleration It holds the road well and is comfortable on the highway."
Anonymous, NV (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"This truck is a 4 cylinder and has no problem on hill or with a full load. However, acceleration is nonexistent. Handling is terrible due to the tire selection on this truck. It literally bounces on the road and a pot hole could throw you into the next lane."
Janice B., PA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceleration slow. Handling good. Dependable no major repairs"
Anonymous, FL (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"This is a small truck and does ride like a truck. Still the ride is not too harsh. I've taken this truck on numerous drives of over 500 miles in a day. I even used this truck to pull a dual-axle rental trailer 600 miles when moving. The truck was able to handle the move without difficulty."
Kenneth A., OK (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"For a 2001 Tacoma it's got some get up and go and handles well."
Anonymous, TX (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"acceleration is acceptable for the size of engine, handling is very good"
Anonymous, CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)"it bounces a lot the ride is rough and does not accelerate good at all."
Anonymous, TN (2001 Toyota Tacoma)
"Tacoma has 186,000+ miles of hard use, zero maintenance cost other than normal service, tires, oil, filters."
LARRY H., CA (2001 Toyota Tacoma)
