What Owners Say
"Great acceleration and nice easy handling."
RUSTY M., CA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Truck has NO pulling power. Stalls under even a small load. Must rev high and slip clutch. Small truck gets 20 MPG ON THE ROAD!!! Really bad engine size even for a small vehicle."
JENNIFER Y., KY (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceleration is phenomenal with the 6 cylinder engine. When you hit the passing gear, it will flat-out accelerate. Road noise is a little annoying."
CHARLES B., SC (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Handles very well off road."
HENRY P., FL (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"adequate power; adequate handling; adequate breaking"
JOHN D., IN (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Seems to wander on road."
D M., AL (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Responds quickly and smoothly. Handles very well in the snow/ice conditions. Excellent traction."
JERRY C., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"very solid ride and comfortable. enging and transmission performance better than anything by gm or ford or nissan by a long shot"
DON B., WI (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It does not have the miles per gallon expected. I expected around 30 miles per gallon."
ROBERT F., FL (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"slow acceleration; gas mileage poor"
MARVIN R., VT (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"4 cylinder engine is slow accelerating up hills or pulling small trailers."
DAVID A., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"The 4 cylinder engine is somewhat under-powered, especially when towing or on steep hills."
Anonymous, CO (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"this truck rides like a car"
EDWARD S., NJ (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"this car has a good acceleration and does not feel like you are driving a truck"
JORGE S., FL (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"My Toyota Tacoma has a 4 cyl engine. It is a bit lacking in acceleration."
MARK D., TN (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It's a beast when premium fuel is used. I usually keep regular in the tank because the 4.0L engine has plenty of power without the premium gasoline."
CHARLES C., LA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It meets my needs"
Anonymous, MT (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceptable"
WALTER B., PA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Four cylinder has okay performance at sea level, but since moving to Denver, it's out of breath. I'd love to be able to bolt a supercharger to this thing! No aftermarket stuff other than a cold air induction available."
Anonymous, CO (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceleration is okay for its "class." However, like most truck buyers I do not tow anything. Transmission does not allow for adequate gas mileage. Toyota saved money by underserving its customers."
Stephen W., AR (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Good MPG,acceleration, and handling."
Anonymous, VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"This is my winter car. I use it to get around safely in the winter and on bad days in the summer. Or when I have to haul something. I like the handling...you might say it is my winter sports car."
Bob R., PA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Great acceleration and handling. Since this is not an AWD vehicle and I live where it occasionally snows, it can be tricky driving on icy or snow covered roads. i can switch among the various lower gears to navigate the icy roads."
Jesse C., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Good things; Reliable: Handles well even in snow: Seems ok when accidentally overloaded. Best AC I have even experienced. Bad things: . From bumper is really a joke. Just a then piece of plastic which can be torn by very minor contact with anything"
G W., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Strong acceleration, but there is an annoying drive train problem that feels like the vehicle has been bumped from behind when stopped with the brake applied. Despite numerous web based comments about this issue, Toyota has yet to address a solution or cause."
Bruce A., TX (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Tight"
Charles C., TN (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It drives and stops like a truck."
Anonymous, KS (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It is a V6 and it does accelerate well, but not quite as well as I had hoped for. Being a truck I was hoping for better winter handling but with rear wheel drive 4 wheel drive is essential. (Too light in the rear)"
Anonymous, MA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"For a crew cab with a full 6' bed the truck has remarkable turn radius and handling continues to be impressive in this older model."
Benjamin C., CT (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"I got the 4 cylinder and would get the 6 if I had it to do over. Handling is somewhat sloppy."
Andrew G., ID (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Very dependable truck. Handles great and acceleration is surprisingly good for a 6 cylinder pick up truck."
Monika B., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"The acceleration is good. The turning radius is great for moving trailers. Have never had a problem driving through a couple feet of snow."
Anonymous, IN (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"4 cylinder engine. Poor acceleration at highway speeds. Handling is a bit sloppy, especially at high speeds."
Anonymous, FL (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It is nice to have a manual transmission with the 4WD. Winters are no problem."
Brad B., WI (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Ride is ok, and the truck holds up well, no major problems."
Ronald V., NJ (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"The tacoma is largely fine, but it had a problem with the leaf springs for which there was a recall. For years. And they never had been able to find a solution. Springs! This is not rocket science! Then when they did I brought it in for that and other recalls and they did not have the spring in stock. I ended up driving with a busted spring."
Clara B., MA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"turning radius seems larger than I like."
William D., NY (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Handles like a car. Nimble, corners better then one would think, and total control."
Anonymous, NY (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Acceleration good since it has a manual transmission."
Anonymous, IA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Moves fine"
Anonymous, TX (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Nice acceleration Hard to maneuver in parking lots Sucks gas"
Duane B., OH (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Easy to control, quick responsive acceleration, tight steering"
Gary S., CA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Brisk acceleration, handles very well for a compact truck."
Daniel G., CA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"4 cylinder"
Charles S., NY (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Fuel economy."
Anonymous, WA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It handles well and has the power to get up the hills."
Anonymous, MT (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"Excellent quality and performance."
Anonymous, TX (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"I am completely satisfied with the acceleration and handling of the Tacoma on the highway. I could not be more pleased with the Toyota Tacoma pickup."
Patricia S., PA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"The Tacoma is an extremely responsive Pick Up. It handles very well and will get you out of a bad situation very quickly. Traffic in our local area is very heavy and requires a lot of attention. The Tacoma makes driving a lot safer than some other trucks."
Monika B., VA (2009 Toyota Tacoma)"It does a good job of acceleration and handling even with a heavy load, but it's not particularly fun to drive. It doesn't handle a trailer well at expressway speeds."
Anonymous, MI (2009 Toyota Tacoma)
"Strong acceleration. Truck does not track well in a straight line (not due to alignment). Requires constant steering correction to keep tracking straight."
BRUCE A., TX (2009 Toyota Tacoma)
