This version of the Tacoma shed some of its workaday roots with powertrain, steering system, and interior trim improvements. Fuel economy is quite competitive among pickup trucks, and handling is secure. However, the ride is not altogether comfortable and the driving position is not ideal. Payload capacity is relatively small. A rear-view camera is optional.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“This truck gives a very bumpy, jolting ride.”

Anonymous, UT (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The 4 cylinder engine has enough horse power to give this truck sufficient acceleration when fully loaded.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The Tacoma turn circumference is too wide. It is awkward trying to park into a small spot or make a tight turn on the road.”

BETH S., NM (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The 4 cylinder engine is somewhat underpowered.”

Anonymous, OH (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“wish I had gotten a 5 speed manual transmission”

GERALD G., KY (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“the good. lots of power, the bad. transmission is hard to service. and the gas milage is not great for the size of the vehicle”

Anonymous, NV (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“When I turn from a full stop like backing out of the driveway it is not a smooth ride. The truck seems to shimmy until it straightens out.”

GEORGE S., VA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Acceleration is adequate. In spite of stiff suspension, the handling is poor, and I find that I have to drive a bit slower than I would in a different vehicle when negotiating twisting roads or sharp bends. The suspension feels mushy at these times. I have experienced sideways hop when going over rough bridge joints that are at an angle to the road. Overall, I drive this vehicle more cautiously than I might a car.”

Anonymous, AB (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“After owning 4 Toyota trucks previously this one is a disappointment. It's size was increased for no good purpose and the engine was not made adequate to this new size. Steering is slow and balky. Parking is like driving a 40 mule team. Even a slight hill causes downshifting and on a long hill loss of speed is inevitable. "I should have bought the larger engine" said sales person. NO, I should have bought a different brand of truck. Gas mileage is abysmal. With a larger engine it would hav”

DAN D., OH (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Handles and drives easily”

ROBERT T., SC (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Great power, takes curves well.”

STAR B., CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Cabin is too small seats not that comfortable”

Anonymous, NM (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“It's not as quiet as I would like. The front seats are comfortable for long trips; the rear seats much less so as they don't provide good lateral support nor do they distribute pressure points well. The ride is stiff and you feel all the bumps in the road and it's more pronounced in the rear seats. I would like to have had dual heat (not available in 2010) and heated outside mirrors (again, not available) since they are respectively comfort and safety related. Air conditioning has been accepta”

Anonymous, AB (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“loud ride”

JIM E., NJ (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Wind noise from drivers and passenger door s (not sealing completely).”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Very noisy ride which I was told was due to the tires”

Anonymous, GA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The A/C unit went completely after year 3 just after warranty was up. Had dealer replace the failed compressor. 3 years later the condenser is now gone. Each one was a 4 figure repair.”

GERRY M., ON (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“I'm very disappointed that the a/c compressor went bad so soon, 27,000 miles.”

DAN M., WV (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“I was very surprised how comfortable this vehicle is in ride and noise. I owned a Lincoln LS V 6 simultaneously for 3 years, and it was as good as the Lincoln in most respects.”

HAROLD B., IL (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“It is a four wheel drive and it rides rough as a cob...which I expect...but the seats are also hard which doesn't make the ride very comfortable. We have taken this truck out West for the last three years and the road ride is okay as long as you're on a smooth road. Off road isn't any more than expected for a four wheel drive truck, you're going to feel the bumps.”

FRANK S., NC (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Weak fan with only four speeds, so I have to run it on high or next-to-high speed a lot. No key lock on the passenger door.”

Anonymous, TN (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“seats need lumbar support also better padding material”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“I would prefer to have more lumber support in the seats. The "driving' position seems to be a little low.”

Anonymous, HI (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The turning radius is terrible the a/c really does not cool people in the back. Also I would prefer an in dash video screen. I had to replace two ujoints and both wheel bearings”

Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Driving/frt passenger seating is uncomfortable for a taller person. Had issues with getting heat/air to the floor/feet area-they finally got it fixed.”

Anonymous, WV (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“handles well, climate control responds quickly, drive is quiet”

MARIANNA H., VT (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Seats are uncomfortable, sits too low. Ride is harsh.”

HARRY S., GA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“This truck is ok for going back & forth to work, but for an extended drive is noisy and uncomfortable.”

Anonymous, UT (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The seats need more adjustment. No way to tilt seat base. Too flat.”

LUKE W., SC (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“This version is the base model so it has 1 bench seat all the way across. I would prefer a separate driver's seat from the rest of the bench.”

Anonymous, NC (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Seating is not the most comfortable and has no adjustment”

MICHAEL H., AL (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“As comfortable to drive as a Sedan”

ROBERT T., SC (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“I've noticed CR reviews saying the seats were quite low. As a 6'5" male, I felt the Tacoma offered better headroom than Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, & Honda. I guess it all depends on your individual perspective.”

DAVID B., CO (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Seats are not very comfortable on long trips. More could be done in the area of design and padding to assure comfort.”

LELAND B., TX (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Dealer offered me the price I paid for it new in 2010. I do have very low mileage.”

BEVAN C., CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“I got the most basic model you could get. It only has AC and an in dash CD player. It has served me well so far. I like the idea, I do not have electric windows. One more item I do not have to worry about failing.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“6years and no issues whatsoever”

Anonymous, NH (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The body styling and dependability of the engine and its related components.”

JOSEPH P., CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Basic truck with bulletproof reliability”

JOHN H., PA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Resale is very good.”

HARRY S., GA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“I will never buy another auto with a hood scoop. Under the right conditions the sun will reflect in the drivers eyes. I also don't care for the TRD exhaust its too load.”

GERALD V., MT (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Toyota put a plastic/composite covering on/in the wheel wells, it stoppeded the rusting considerably. Toyota trucks last long, but the bodies didn't; they do now (I live in New England).”

JAMES D., CT (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Forward visibility over the hood is poor - this is a significant issue when driving off-road. Part of the problem is the fake air scoop on the hood, and the new body style (2016) makes this problem even worse.”

SEAN B., NM (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“We were looking for a plain truck and this is the truck. Nothing fancy but it get the job done. Did not want any special features.”

VICKIE S., LA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“It is the right size and fit .”

Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“Front windshield view is limited. View blocked by posts. Hard to see directly in front needs some slant. Inside lots of room easy to controls. Like the Gage layout”

JOHN P., WA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The Tacoma looks rugged and stylish at the same time.”

RICHARD S., CA (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The finish on one of the wheels has completely deteriorated.”

EDWARD S., RI (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“The seats are positioned way to low for comfort and visibility”

Anonymous, KY (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“It is a nice looking pickup”

Anonymous, WY (2010 Toyota Tacoma)

“the good is. its tough vehicle and very reliable.”

Anonymous, NV (2010 Toyota Tacoma)
