    Consumer Reports' 75th anniversary celebration

A look at the past, present, and future of Consumer Reports

    Last updated: March 2013

Bloomberg (left) proclaimed Oct. 28, 2011, Consumer Reports Day in New York City..

On Oct. 28-29, 2011, an interactive exhibit of Consumer Reports' history and future was on display in Grand Central Terminal, New York, N.Y. to celebrate Consumer Reports' 75th anniversay.

The exhibit featured displays on cars, appliances and home products, electronics, wellness, and shopping, and included testing demonstrations, ask the expert sessions.

The event also featured a panel discussion about the role of media in keeping our food safe. Food safety is a key area in our work. And over the decades, our lab tests and critical reporting has informed the public about antibiotic-resistant bacteria in pork, arsenic in rice, Bisphenol A (BPA) in canned foodsalmonella in chicken, and other dangers lurking in our food supply.

    Our history

In February 1936, a dedicated band of professors, labor leaders, journalists, and engineers founded Consumers Union. Explore some of the highlights of our history in our interactive timeline and go from Consumers Union's origins to present day.

Our archive of vintage photographs from over the years not only shows the ingenuity of our testers but also traces the changing face of American consumer products over the course of the 20th century.
