Which industry do Americans complain about the most?

Consumer Reports News: February 06, 2009 02:17 PM

Cell phone companies find themselves in the top spot on the 2008 most complained-about list from the Better Business Bureau.

The BBB's recently released statistics for complaints and inquiries recorded 862,128 complaints last year, and 35,631 of those were aimed at the cell phone industry.

That's nothing new. The cell phone business was at the top of the 2007 complaint list, too.

The top five industries Americans complained about in 2008, according to the BBB:

  1. Cellular Phones Service & Equipment
  2. Auto Dealers-New Cars
  3. Banks
  4. Internet Shopping
  5. Television - Cable, CATV & Satellite

ConsumerReports.org might be able to help you avoid having to file all those complaints -- check out our free buying guides on cell phones and cars, as well as ShopSmart magazine.
