Recall: OneTouch SureStep diabetes test strips

People with diabetes know how important it can be to monitor their blood-glucose levels. If you use the OneTouch SureStep system, note that maker LifeScan is recalling 14,000 packages of test strips. The strips may provide inaccurate results when glucose is higher than 400 mg/dL.

The strips came in 50- and 100-count packages, and were sold between August 2009 and the end of January 2010 to consumers and health-care professionals. No injuries have been reported.

LifeScan stopped selling OneTouch SureStep meters in the U.S. in 2006, but still supplies test strips for that model. Only eight lots of the strips are included in the recall, so check the recall notice for the lot numbers. You'll find the lot number on the outer carton and on the test-strip vial.
