I've written about this issue many times before, but apparently I'm not getting the word out. Furniture can kill children. I bristle when reading news stories like this one from Fox news in Detroit describing how 2-year-old Davion Duesette was crushed by a dresser when it fell over and punctured his heart. The report says Davion had climbed on the dresser to reach a drink.

Each year about a dozen kids die and almost 15,000 are treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries caused by tipping furniture. The problem is very preventable. Until furniture manufactures design all furniture to remain upright even when a child uses open drawers as a ladder, furniture more than 30 inches high should be anchored to the wall. Tip restraints are readily available at hardware and baby products stores. Most are easy to install.
