Consumer Reports News: October 08, 2010 11:11 AM

Here are some fast facts to go along with Fire Prevention Week.

According to a new report by the U.S. Fire Administration on smoking-related fires in residential buildings, each year smoking results in:

    • 9,000 home fires
    • 450 fire-related deaths
    • 1,025 injuries
    • $303 million in property loss

Statistics are based on an estimated annual average of smoking-related fires between 2006 and 2008.
