Netflix kills Qwikster but keeps separate DVD and streaming plans

Consumer Reports News: October 11, 2011 10:48 AM

Netflix announced yesterday that it will not spin off its DVD-by-mail service into a new service it had dubbed Qwikster. But the company's change of heart is not a complete 180-degree turnaround.

On its official blog yesterday, the company announced that "two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs." The death of Qwikster doesn't mean Netflix members will see any relief from the previously announced price hikes, though. From the Netflix blog:

While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings had previously issued an apology to customers for the way the company communicated the intended changes.

DVDs will be staying at netflix.com [Official Netflix Blog]
