Frozen Organic Blueberries and Mixed Berries Sold at Walmart and Trader Joe’s Recalled
The berries were linked to an E. coli outbreak that already triggered two previous recall announcements
A Chilean fruit company, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., issued an expanded recall of frozen organic blueberries and frozen mixed berries sold at Walmart and frozen mixed berries sold at Trader Joe’s over fears they could be contaminated with E. coli, a dangerous bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

If you have any of the products from this recall or earlier recalls in your freezer, throw out the packages or return them to the store where you purchased them for a refund.
“E. coli can survive very cold temperatures,” says James E. Rogers, Ph.D, director of food safety testing at CR. “So if you have any of these products, be sure to also sanitize any hard surface they came into contact with using a diluted bleach solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water.”
If you have questions about this recall, you can contact Frutas y Hortalizas S.A. at Info.foodsafety@comfrut.com or 336-899-5612, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
Symptoms of E. coli can include severe stomach aches, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting three to five days after exposure. Otherwise healthy people usually recover in about a week. People in high-risk groups like children under the age of 2, seniors, or anyone with a weak immune system can become seriously ill with an infection that threatens their organs, including their kidneys, and can be fatal.
Seek immediate medical attention if you or a loved one experiences a very high fever for several days (102F or higher) or shows signs of kidney damage (extreme fatigue, decreased urination and thirst, and pale cheeks and lower eyelids).
