Kobalt (Lowe's) KHB 4224A-03
Consumer Reports is warning customers not to use Kobalt 24-volt batteries that have a USB-C charging port. In July 2026, Greenworks, which makes certain Kobalt products, recalled yard power tools, including trimmers, blowers, mowers, chainsaws, and pruning saws that use 24V Kobalt-branded batteries with a USB-C charging port, due to a fire hazard. The company received reports that batteries produced smoke, sparked, or caught fire while inserted in the tool and charging via the USB-C port. Affected model numbers can be found at the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice page. The batteries with a USB-C charging port come in 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah, and 8.0Ah. The 6.0Ah and 3.0Ah batteries were also sold separately from the tool.
The CPSC is advising consumers to stop charging batteries through the USB-C port while batteries are inserted into yard power tools and to contact Greenworks Tools to receive a free replacement battery.
