Whether you’re shopping for yourself or a certain someone on your holiday gift list, it’s nice to get a bargain—and even nicer when that bargain comes from Apple, a brand that generally resists doling out discounts. Here, on the final day of Amazon’s Prime Day sales event, we’re seeing impressive offers on AirPods, MacBooks, Apple Watches, and more.

But a deal is more than the discounted price. You want a quality item, too, no matter how much you spend. So Consumer Reports looks at the test scores for the product in each deal to determine if it’s worth bringing home.

We also review the pricing at retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, so you don’t miss out on better offers. For even more discounts, product recommendations, and buying advice, check out our Deals hub.

    Headphones

Apple has unveiled a fourth-generation edition of its classic buds, but this gen-three model remains a solid choice, offering decent sound quality and the same easy compatibility with Apple devices. The ear tips have pressure-sensitive squeeze controls, plus sensors that prevent the headphones from playing when they’re not in your ears. The buds come standard with a charging case that’s compatible with wireless chargers.

The AirPods Max is an exceptional over-the-ear headphone–with one drawback: the price. The sound quality, noise-canceling tech, design and construction are all very appealing, especially to Apple fans. But the $550 price tag can put all of that out of reach. This $150 discount helps fix that. Yes, these are the prior-gen Maxes, but aside from the choice of colors and the Lightning charging port (instead of the industry standard USB-C), there’s little to separate them from the current model.

The AirPods Pro 2 are Apple’s best selling earbuds, with good reason. They sound good and offer effective noise canceling, including a transparency mode that pipes in outside sound so you’re not fully cut off from the world around you. And, says Apple, a free over-the-air upgrade later this year will allow the model to deliver a clinical-grade hearing test, which can be used to turn it into an over-the-counter hearing aid.

If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds that prioritizes fit above all else, check out the Beats Fit Pro. These noise-canceling buds have soft silicone ear tips in three sizes, plus wingtips that fit into the pinna (the exterior of your ear) for added security. They have actual buttons, too, rather than the touch-sensitive controls on many other models, which may make it easier to operate them while on the go. The Fit Pros also sound really good and feature effective active noise cancellation, making them a solid alternative to the similarly priced AirPods Pro.

These are the previous-gen Studio Buds, not the newer, more expensive Studio Buds+, but they perform almost identically, delivering quality sound and effective noise canceling. And, unlike Apple’s entry-level AirPods, which have a hard plastic earpiece, these have silicone ear tips, which many users prefer. The Studio Buds also boast a transparency mode that pipes in sound from outside to keep you connected to the world. In fact, the Studio Buds have many of the features of Apple’s AirPods Pro at a price well under $100.

    Laptops

Thin, light, and powerful, the 2022 MacBook Air is a great machine, even though there’s a newer MacBook Air for shoppers to consider. The older model provides a compelling combination of performance and battery life. Instead of using an Intel chip, it’s powered by Apple’s own M2 processor, which performs with admirable speed and efficiency.

This 13-inch MacBook Air has Apple’s latest M3 processor, which delivers strong performance while sipping battery. Combine that with the barely there 2.7-pound weight and it’s easy to see why the Air continues to be so popular. The model we tested is slightly more powerful with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid state drive, but this base model has plenty of muscle for the average user: 8GB of RAM and a 256GB drive.

    Tablets

Apple’s entry-level iPad is generally a great value, especially when you factor in the number of high-quality apps and services available for the iPad operating system. But this deal is even sweeter. The model has a beautiful 10.9-inch display, 64GB of storage, and the ability to record HD video.

Apple’s 2021 iPad Mini is still our top pick for those who wish to travel light. The 8.3-inch tablet has a bright, sharp display with a large viewing angle, meaning you don’t need to hold it directly in front of your face to see it clearly. Browsing the web and watching movies are smooth and stutter-free. The battery life is impressive, too.

    Watches

If you’re a fan of Apple’s watches and don’t mind being one generation behind the latest version, the Series 9 will not disappoint you. The S9 processor allows for smoother onscreen animations and less battery drain, Apple says. The always-on 1.3-inch OLED display can get twice as bright as that on the Series 8, making it easy to read even out in the sun. The model has a versatile suite of health-tracking and safety features—from crash detection to body temperature sensors that allow for menstrual cycle tracking. Siri can also interact with your health data, telling you how much sleep you got last night or logging your body weight.

This may not look like much of a deal, but it’s Apple’s budget model and it does everything most people want from a smartwatch—and does it well. You can read and respond to texts, tap to pay at checkout, and get motivated to move by closing your daily activity rings.

    Charging Cords

    Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable

This two-meter cord, designed to recharge the iPhone 5 through the iPhone 14, survived 11,500 bends without failing in a rig we created to test charging cord durability. That’s the equivalent of more than six years’ worth of use, according to our estimates.
