Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Dish Soap (Basil Scent), Persil Ultra Pacs Advanced Clean Oxi+Odor Power, and Amazon's Presto! Flex-a-Size Paper Towels with a package icon, and an orange block with a dollar sign in a down arrow Graphic: Consumer Reports, Manufacturers

Restocking the household essentials you use most often to keep your home looking, smelling, and feeling its best can add up in a major way. If you’re doing six loads of laundry every laundry day, it will only take eight wash days to use up a 48-load bottle of detergent. And dish soap? It’s the item I most frequently need to repurchase in my kitchen.

With Amazon’s Prime Day deals, you can save on some of those products you shop for often, like dish soap, laundry detergent, and more.

    Dish Soap

    Gain Ultra Clean Dish Soap

    Gain Ultra Clean Dish Soap

A soapy bowl of water made with Gain dish soap showed little difference in suds after washing dishes, and the time it took to rinse a sponge holding 1.2 grams of dish soap in it was among the middle of the pack of dish soaps we tried—about half as long as it took to rinse Dawn out of a sponge. The scent of this dish soap was very strong. It wasn’t totally unpleasant to me, but for someone sensitive to overpowering smells, it could be too much.

Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds Liquid Dish Soap

Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds Liquid Dish Soap

When we put three of Dawn’s dish soaps to the test against each other, we found that they all cleaned dishes well. Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds Liquid Dish Soaps boasts “2x the suds," according the label. We found that the suds it produced remained rich even after washing eight dirty dishes, had a pleasant smell, and was easy to dispense onto our test sponges.

the suds produced in a bowl of water were as rich as most of the other sudsy dish soaps we tested and remained so after washing eight dirty dishes with the soapy water. It cleaned messes off dishes well, had a pleasant scent, and didn’t dry my hands out. The 38-ounce bottle is comfortable to pick up, turn on its side, and dispense soap from. It is a great dish soap—like the other two dish soaps we tested from Dawn, but in a head-to-head comparison, I didn’t notice any significant differences between its performance and the others from the brand.

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Dish Soap (Basil Scent)

Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Dish Soap (Basil Scent)

Uniquely basil scented, Mrs.Meyers Clean Day Dish Soap was a welcome departure from the usual dish soap scents. It produced rich suds and saturated our sponge with soap for longer than many of the others we tested. The bottle was light and easy to dispense soap from. You can reuse the 16-ounce bottle and refill it from the 48-ounce bottle when it’s time to restock your kitchen sink. According to the brand, it’s made from “plant-derived” ingredients.

    Anti-Static Spray

    Begley's 3-in-1 Wrinkle Release

    Begley's 3-in-1 Wrinkle Release

This unscented anti-static spray eliminated static from freshly-laundered toddler socks and microfiber cloths for 30 minutes in our tests.

    Static Guard Static Guard Spray

    Static Guard Static Guard Spray

This static spray performed well in our tests and has an artificial, but quite light, scent.

    Laundry Detergent

Dreft Pacs rank fourth in our ranking for single-dose laundry detergent pods/pacs. They received an excellent score in their removal of blood and chocolate, and very good scores for their removal of body oil, dirt, salad dressing, coffee, and grass. According to the brand, its formula is gentle enough for washing babies’ clothing and is “lightly scented”.

If you’re often washing coffee stains from clothing on laundry day, this is not the single-dose laundry detergent for your home. Persil Ultra Pacs Everyday Clean Original received poor scores for their removal of coffee stains in our lab tests. It fared better against body oil, dirt, and chocolate stains. At a discount of over 70% off, if you have minimally stained clothing, this could be a great buy this Amazon Prime Deal day. Like many other laundry detergent pacs we’ve tested, their performance was minimally affected by water hardness.

With savings of 63% during this year’s Amazon Prime Deal event, Persil Ultra Pacs Advanced Clean Oxi+Odor Power laundry detergent pacs are worth checking out. Their cleaning performance was not as stellar as other single-dose laundry detergent pacs we’ve tested in our lab, but our testers did see very good results in its removal of chocolate, body oil, and dirt. Even in very hard water, they maintained their cleaning performance. If you’ve got sports players at home, this may not be the right choice for you, since they struggled to remove grass stains from our test fabrics.

While Arm & Hammer Deep Clean Stain Formula Paks did not receive great scores in our lab tests, with a savings of nearly 43%, they are still worth considering during this Amazon Prime event. They received very good scores in removing body oil, dirt, chocolate, and blood. Plus, they maintained their cleaning performance well enough even in very hard water. The one stain they really struggled to tackle was coffee.

According to Persil, this formula of their liquid laundry detergent is hypoallergenic, dye-free, and perfume-free. Persil Sensitive excelled in removing chocolate from the test swatches in our lab. It produced very good results in removing body oil, dirt, and blood. Though it didn’t completely remove salad dressing and grass stains from our test fabrics, it still earned good scores for these stains. One 82.5-ounce bottle is enough for 110 loads of laundry.

    Paper Towels

    Amazon's Presto! Flex-a-Size Paper Towels

    Amazon's Presto! Flex-a-Size Paper Towels

Amazon’s Presto! Flex-a-Size Paper Towels did not wow or disappoint us in our tests. They absorbed an average of 45 grams of water and survived 12.5 cycles of scrubbing with sandpaper before they were unusable. Compared to the other paper towels we tested, they consistently finished in the middle of our test results, with one second-place performance in our test for ease of detaching one sheet from a roll. When we calculated the number of sheets per roll using the measured square footage, we found that there are about 1.6 sheets per roll less than what is stated on the paper towel’s packaging.

    Bath Tissue

    Amazon Basics Bath Tissue

    Amazon Basics Bath Tissue

This basic toilet paper performed nicely in our tests while also being among the most budget-friendly. We appreciated that it produced little lint though isn’t as rough and papery as others we tried; it also disintegrated well, so it’s a good option for sensitive plumbing.

    Hand Soap

    Cleancult Liquid Hand Soap Refill

    Cleancult Liquid Hand Soap Refill

We love Cleancult’s hand soaps, which are silky, nondrying, and smell delicious. Plus, the refill cartons are easy to use and don’t spill.

    Dish Soap

    Cleancult Dish Soap Liquid Refill

    Cleancult Dish Soap Liquid Refill

These dish soap refills come in a range of fragrances (we prefer Lemon Verbena and Wild Lavender), and clean dishes without leaving behind any scents. They are suitably sudsy, so you don’t have to use another squirt of it for each dish.

    Laundry Detergent Sheets

    Cleancult Laundry Detergent Sheets

    Cleancult Laundry Detergent Sheets

If you’re looking to lightly scent your laundry, Cleancult’s delicate laundry detergent sheets are a good option. They leave behind only the most subtle fragrance, and seem to clean well enough (though we tested these sheets at home, not in the lab). Plus, they’re super easy and mess-free to use.

    Toilet Paper

Quilted Northern Ultra Plush Toilet Paper

Quilted Northern Ultra Plush Toilet Paper

Quilted Northern’s three-ply toilet paper is the strongest TP we tested. It’s linty, though, and takes a long time to disintegrate, so isn’t great for sensitive plumbing.
