Although a 2023 set, the LG OLED77C3PUA is a top-performing OLED that’s worth owning, and thanks to more than a year of price drops it’s a lower, though still not inexpensive, price. It aced our picture quality tests, has great sound, and very good HDR performance.

CR's expert guidance and unbiased reviews can help you purchase with confidence.

The Hisense 55U7N is a mid-tier 2024 set that has a few step-up features, most notably a Mini LED backlight. It has very good overall picture quality, but only so-so HDR performance. Other features include 144Hz VRR (variable refresh rate) and auto low-latency mode (ALLM) for gaming, and it includes an ATSC 3.0 tuner for receiving NextGen TV over-the-air signals. It’s a Google TV model.

Those looking for a top-performing 48-inch 4K OLED TV should consider this set, which delivers everywhere except for HDR performance, which was only so-so. It’s in an entry-level OLED TV series for 2024. The good news is the price dropped by about $50 from earlier in the week.

The TCL 55Q550F, which uses the Amazon Fire TV smart system, is an entry-level QLED TV from 2023 that does well for 4K picture quality in our tests, though not as well for HD or HDR performance. Right now we see this set, which has the Alexa voice assistant built in, only at Best Buy.

This 75-inch Roku TV set, also sometimes referred to as the Roku 75R6A5R/75R6AX, is in Roku’s own step-up Plus series. It delivers top-notch overall picture quality, but it doesn’t quite get bright enough to earn a high score for HDR. One big Plus series improvement over many of the Select models we’ve tested: much better sound.

    Headphones

These sleek true wireless earbuds offer admirable sound quality and noise cancellation, with an effective ambient mode that allows you to hear what’s going on around you, making them a solid choice for walkers and runners. Even when they’re on sale, they’re not exactly cheap. But they perform so well, you’ll smile every time you pop them in.

Bowers & Wilkins, aka B&W, might not be a household name, but this British company has been making audiophile grade speakers and headphones for decades. And the PX7 S2e delivers on both noise cancellation and lively sound quality.

    Appe AirTags (4-pack)

    Appe AirTags (4-pack)

Much like trackers made by Samsung and Tile, AirTags work best if you’re looking for one within Bluetooth range (roughly 30 feet) of your own phone. But, that said, there are millions of iPhones and other Apple devices roaming around out there that can pick up a signal and discreetly convey it to you when you find yourself searching, say, a park or a school campus for the keys you dropped. Is the tracking pinpoint accurate? No. But it’s close enough to give you a little peace of mind.

HP makes a lot of Chromebooks, so it can be challenging to find the right one. Let’s save you some time: This 15.6-inch model has just about everything you want in a Chromebook here in late 2024, including an Intel processor, 8GB of memory, and 64GB of flash storage. That may seem underpowered if you’re used to Windows specs, but it’s more than sufficient for “Chromebook-y” things like browsing the web, editing documents, and participating in video calls.

    Apple iPad (64GB, 2021)

This entry-level iPad from 2021 is a bargain at the usual price. At this price, it’s a steal. It features a 10.2-inch screen (measured diagonally) and boasts more than 14 hours of video play per charge, plus more than enough performance for everyday tasks like browsing the web and watching videos.

Situated right below the Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ model, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K has most of the same features—including improved WiFi, support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR, and the ability to work with Amazon Alexa, Apple AirPlay, and Google Assistant voice assistant—but not the new rechargeable Voice Remote Pro remote control. Instead, you get a standard Roku voice remote, which lacks the hands-free operation, a headphone jack for private listening, and a lost-remote finder feature found on the Voice Remote Pro.

    Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable

This two-meter cord, designed for the iPhone 5 through the iPhone 14, survived 11,500 bends without failing in the rig we created to test charging cord durability. That’s the equivalent of more than six years’ worth of use, according to our estimates.

    Home and Kitchen Products

The kid sister to the 211i Max, Blueair’s 411i Max has a similar design, but for a smaller space—CR recommends a medium room or less. The portable air purifier delivers impressive results on its higher speed, and as with many air purifiers, it’s less effective on the lower speed. A true selling point is its relatively low annual operating cost and the fact that CR members are highly satisfied with their Blueairs. If you’re looking for an even cheaper option for a smaller room, the Pure 511 is another three-speed model that performs reasonably well in our tests.

This price matches the same low offer we saw during the October sales moment.

The portable Blue Pure 211i Max does a terrific job removing dust, pollen, and smoke on its higher setting, but expect a bit of noise. Try it on low, and you’ll have more quiet while still experiencing top-notch results. This model is designed for use in a large space of 350 to 650 square feet and costs about $109 a year to maintain. It also weighs just 17 pounds, making it easy to move around.

The top-performing LG MHEC1737F showcases stellar defrosting capabilities in our tests. It earns a middling rating for heating speed, so it may take a while to heat up food, but it delivers evenly heated mashed potatoes. The model also comes with a convection mode, which circulates heat around your food to warm it up. LG over-the-range microwaves garner a top-notch rating for reliability but only a middling rating for owner satisfaction in our member surveys.

    Refrigerators

The budget-friendly 28-inch Frigidaire FFHT1425VV is a great top-freezer for performance, but it did cost as little as $450 during the July Fourth sale at Home Depot. It’s extremely energy-efficient, and it garners solid scores in all other tests except ease of use, where it receives an unsatisfactory rating (although that’s similar to many other top-freezers). According to our latest member survey, Frigidaire top-freezers are reliable, but they have a poor owner satisfaction score.

This deal beats the previous low price of $1,100, so it’s a great time to buy. Equipped with an external water/ice dispenser, touchpad controls, and gallon-sized storage bins on the doors, the low-priced 33-inch Whirlpool WRS321SDHZ hits our thermostat control test out of the park. This side-by-side fridge also earns a solid rating for temperature uniformity, midlevel ratings for noise output and ease of use, and a substandard rating for energy efficiency. In our surveys, members gave Whirlpool’s side-by-side models a passable rating for predicted reliability and a rock-bottom rating for owner satisfaction.

    Ranges

This single-oven gas slide-in LG is now $100 less than it was for Memorial Day (and Wayfair is beating everyone else by an extra $100). This is among the best gas ranges we’ve seen. It heats fast, simmers consistently, and bakes well, too, though broiling lags a bit behind. It has convection, continuous grates (for easily sliding pots and pans between burners), a griddle burner, and front-mounted controls with no back panel. It’s available in stainless steel or black stainless.

The LG LREL6321S single oven is an exceptionally strong performer at a great price. It’s far less expensive than the spiffier LG below, but it still heats fast and simmers steadily on top of the stove, earning an excellent performance rating in our cooktop high and low tests. It also bakes and broils evenly. There’s no convection mode, but you’ll find a warming element, along with two high-powered burners on the cooktop. LG earns high reliability ratings for its electric ovens based on our member surveys.

The Samsung NX60T8711SS has a slide-in design, continuous cooking grates, and an integrated griddle. It bakes well, too, though not as evenly. Broiling is so-so, but the cooktop heats fast and simmers impressively steadily. As a brand, Samsung’s gas ranges garner an above-average rating for reliability and a passable rating for owner satisfaction in CR’s latest member surveys.

The GE Profile PSS93YPFS is a slide-in with all-digital controls, offering killer performance for baking and cooking on low heat. It also comes with a slew of features, including convection and air-fry modes in the oven. GE lands a top-notch predicted reliability rating but a mediocre owner satisfaction score for its electric ranges, based on data from CR’s member surveys.

The LG LTGL6937F is the best price we’ve seen all year, beating the previous best by $400. It has a gas cooktop and two gas ovens, both with convection. It’s among the best double-oven gas ranges in our ratings, and it comes with continuous grates, a griddle burner, and WiFi connectivity that lets you control the oven temperature from your smartphone. Broiling is just middling. Otherwise, it heats fast, simmers steadily, and bakes evenly, too.

This attractive double oven has a gas cooktop and electric ovens, both with convection. The LG Signature LUTD4919SN is among the best dual-fuel ranges in our ratings, and it’s the highest-rated among those with two ovens. Built to compete with pricier pro-style models, the stove has continuous grates, five burners, and extra features, such as a wok ring that fits over the largest burner. The performance of the cooktop and the ovens is exceptional, with steady simmering, fast heating, and even baking and broiling.

    Washing Machines

Overall, the Electrolux ELFW4222AW, which is now only about $20 more than its best price, performs very well across CR’s tests. Its washing performance and water efficiency are excellent, and its energy efficiency, its gentleness on clothes, and the vibration levels during its 65-minute operation earn very good ratings. In our most recent surveys, CR members reported that Electrolux, as a company, had excellent predicted reliability. (Electrolux and LG are the only companies with a compact washing machine that achieves this rating.) But its owner satisfaction score was only adequate.

One of the most budget-friendly top-load agitators in our tests, especially now that it’s back down to its best price, the LG WT7005CW delivers across the board. This eco-friendly Green Choice washer isn’t the gentlest on clothes, but it conserves energy and water. It’s among the quietest models in our tests and causes little to no vibration, meaning it won’t disturb you with rumbling. The cycle time is 70 minutes using the normal-wash, heavy-soil setting. Shorten it by using the normal-soil setting when you can.

    Dryers

The LG DLG3471W gas dryer shares its impressive score with several other LG models in our tests (the LG DLG7401WE and the LG DLGX6501W), but it’s less expensive than both while offering similar performance. That said, this is a basic machine that’s a bit short on extras. If you’re looking for a steam option, WiFi, or a stainless steel drum, you’ll want to pay a little more for the DLGX6501W. Whichever model you choose, you’ll be buying from a brand with high marks from CR members for reliability and owner satisfaction.
