    Headphones

Despite the popularity of Apple’s AirPods, this is a rather unusual model, and so is this low price at Amazon (and Walmart). Lacking the padded ear tips that plug your ear canals, it doesn’t offer much passive noise cancellation; however, it does have reasonably effective noise-canceling technology. And so, you can elect to turn the noise-canceling feature off and hear what’s going on around you, which can be great when you’re on a run or walking on a busy street. In terms of sound and fit, the buds are very similar to the regular AirPods 4.

If you’re looking for high-value noise-canceling headphones, the Sennheiser Accentum Plus is a very solid option. They’re amiable companions, with robust bass, neutral midrange, and that sense of lively openness that makes really good headphones fun to listen to. They’re pleasantly light in weight, and the fit and stability are good for most of our testers, though those with large heads and/or prominent ears may want to double-check the fit.

JBL Tune 510BT headphones feel like they’re built with quality in mind: They’re cheap, but they don’t seem cheap. This Bluetooth model delivers pretty good sound quality, it has a 40-hour advertised battery life, and we’ve seen it selling at remarkably low prices. The 510BT sits on the ears, which some people find more comfortable than being engulfed by the more common over-ear style. As an extra perk, you can also use them with a cable if you forget to charge them.

    Tech

For those motivated to get more movement in the new year, we think the new Apple Watch SE 3 is the most capable version yet of Apple’s budget smartwatch. It offers nearly all the health and fitness features of the pricier Series version. And you can count on impressive battery life and a bright, durable display, too.

Hailing from HP’s line of entry-level gaming laptops, this Victus should deliver solid performance for popular games like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Rocket League, thanks to the RTX 4050 graphics card. And if you haven’t played a game since the original Super Mario, the extra graphical power still comes in handy when you do things like photo or video editing. No, this isn’t the most powerful laptop in our ratings, but it’s hard to argue when the price is so low.

We think Apple’s basic iPad is a great pick for nearly everyone. Count on a crisp 11-inch screen and plenty of battery life. Plus, at just about 1 pound, it’s easy to take along with you while traveling.

If you want a sleek, do-everything smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 11 is a solid pick. It can do all the basics well, like tracking your sleep, workouts, steps, heart rate, and more. It also offers a few health features that the SE 3 doesn’t, like the new hypertension monitoring, electrocardiogram readings that can check for an irregular heart rhythm, and a blood-oxygen sensor.

The JBL Xtreme 3 is one hefty hunk of speaker. In fact, you might be surprised by how large it is when you see it in person. The 5-pound, foot-long beast sports a strap instead of a handle, which can make it a handful to haul around. But it’s water-resistant, delivers strong bass, and can play loud enough to fill a large-ish room. At just about $200, it’s—quite literally—a lot of speaker for the money. Note that the Walmart offer only applies to the blue model.

Looking for a really good, inexpensive small speaker? The Flip 6 is at a fantastic discount at Walmart right now, dropping $10 since earlier this month. This speaker is very similar to the venerable Flip 5, and that’s a good thing. It’s water and dust-resistant, has a 12-hour battery life, and is just the right size to slip into a bag or even the water bottle pocket on a backpack.

This pint-sized, foldable Samsung phone is now a generation old, but still a solid performer for fans of foldable phones—and it’s now at the best price we’ve ever seen. It easily stows in your pocket but flips open to reveal a high-quality 6.7-inch display. The Flip6’s cover screen, which remains visible even when the device is closed, shows notifications, dynamic widgets, and your personalized wallpaper.

    TVs

The LG 65QNED90TUA, an upper-tier set in the 2024 QNED lineup that includes Mini LED backlights, offers very good overall picture quality and a satisfying, if not top-notch, HDR experience. (LG TVs support Dolby Vision but not the HDR10+ HDR format.) The model has a fairly wide viewing angle for an LCD set, and the sound is very good. It uses LG’s own webOS smart TV system, with Amazon Alexa and its own ThinQ virtual assistants built in.

This 55-inch OLED TV from Samsung is CR Recommended, and it’s at a big discount right now at a few different retailers. It’s an excellent choice for a set this size because it has very good color accuracy, superior, deep black levels, excellent 4K UHD picture quality, very effective HDR performance, and an unlimited viewing an499.00gle. It got fantastic scores in all our lab tests, acing most everything. The only places it fell a little short (still scoring 4 out of 5) were in versatility and data security.

    Kitchen Appliances

    KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

    KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

In our outside-the-lab evaluation, we found the KitchenAid Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine was impressively well-built, especially given its budget-friendly price. It may take some getting used to for beginners, but we found that it produced reliably good espresso shots. This model comes with numerous accessories, including a milk jug for steaming (the only model we evaluated that offered this). We’ve seen this machine at a lower price than this in the past, but it may be worth nabbing now if you’ve been considering an espresso machine for your home.

The 500-watt KitchenAid KFP1318BM food processor masters our tests for chopping and shredding, and it’s one of the lower-priced options with a fairly large claimed capacity of 13 cups. Of the big guys, it’s the lightest, weighing just 8.3 pounds (less than half the weight of some of the other models we’ve tested). That makes it a compelling choice if you plan to store it in a cabinet and lift it out for each use. One downside: The parts and motor are covered by just a one-year warranty. We’ve seen better deals on this food processor in the past year, but this discount of over 20 percent makes it a worthy purchase right now.

The CR Recommended Cuisinart CPT-435 Countdown Metal 4-Slice toaster is similar to the Cuisinart CPT-415 Countdown Metal 2-Slice that we’ve tested in our labs, and we expect it to perform virtually the same. In our tests, the 2-slice toaster receives an excellent score for color range. You can also expect even browning whether you’re making one slice or a full batch, and it’ll get the job done quickly, based on our test results. We find it easy to use, but like many toasters we test, it earned a mediocre score for ease of cleaning.

Food safety is always important, and a thermometer is your best line of defense against overcooking food and drying it out. I love how small and nimble this Meater thermometer is, and it provides accurate readings quickly. That makes it great for the grill and equally adept at temping a roast in your oven.

    Smart Home

The Google Nest Cam with Floodlight, whose price has dropped $25 in the last week, offers impeccable video quality, strong data security, and speedy response times. Its features include activity zones to control what areas in front of the camera trigger recording, app/voice control (via Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings), and free object detection for people, animals, and vehicles. That last feature is a big deal because most competitors charge you a subscription for it. Cloud video storage and additional features require a Google Home Premium subscription.

The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced is one of the company’s newer smart thermostats, and it has dropped back down to its Prime Day sale price from July. It performs well in our tests for manual operation and offers an array of smart features, but it’s not as proficient at learning your routine and making adjustments automatically. It features a new radar-based occupancy sensor and works with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings for voice and app control. It doesn’t come with one of Ecobee’s wireless temperature sensors (called SmartSensors), but you can buy those separately in a two-pack for $100 at Best Buy and Ecobee.

    Vacuums and Carpet Cleaners

We like the Shark Vertex Pro IZ662H’s many features, and it’s an especially great deal. It’s now $44 less than it was last week, and $15 less than its best price in months. The wand can be bent to easily reach under furniture, and the vacuum itself folds to allow more compact storage. While it’s only decent at cleaning carpets, the vacuum excels at removing pet hair and dust from bare, uncarpeted floors.

The Hoover SmartWash+ Automatic FH52000 costs $50 less compared to last week. It’s convenient to handle, adequate at removing red-clay stains from carpet, and outstanding at removing cleaning solution to leave carpets dry, according to our tests. The model comes with a hose and has separate tanks for clean and dirty water. This sale brings the price back down to where it was earlier this summer.

The Shark PowerDetect IP1251 comes with lots of bells and whistles, including a dirt detection feature and a floor detect mode that adjusts the brush roll speed based on the surface it’s vacuuming. It’s very good at sucking up debris from carpets and is even more impressive at picking up pet hair. The vacuum can be converted into a hand vac and folded for storage.

For those looking for a vacuum that cleans carpets well, the bagless Shark Navigator Professional NV360 sucks up detritus from carpets better than all the other vacuums in the upright category. It’s also superb at picking up pet hair. One of our favorite features of this model is its lift-away functionality. You can detach the vacuum "pod" to allow for easier cleaning of stairs and the spaces under your furniture. As a brand, Shark vacuums get solid ratings in reliability and top-mark scores in owner satisfaction based on our member surveys. The sale price dropped from $150 in the last week too, making it a great time to buy.

    Home Goods

The discounted price for the Coop Home Goods Premium Adjustable Loft Pillow has been fluctuating a little bit between $54 and $64, so keep an eye out for that lower price before you buy. This pillow is made of shredded memory foam and excels in our tests for support, no matter your size or sleep position. It also keeps its shape well, showing little to no change in height or fluffiness in our resilience tests. Each pillow comes with extra foam, so you can adjust the filling to your liking. The only area where this pillow falls a bit short is in breathability—it sleeps slightly warm.

The Babymoov Hygro (+) is the highest-rated humidifier for small rooms in our evaluation, and for good reason. It’s quiet, energy-efficient, and produces high moisture output. The Hygro (+) comes with a humidistat that controls the humidity level, as well as seven different colors of night light.
