Black Friday is over, but that doesn’t mean the deals are gone just yet. Target—along with other retailers— is offering up Cyber Monday discounts on a wide variety of categories, from large appliances, vacuums, cookware and kitchen gadgets, to tech devices, TVs, and more.

Consumer Reports has been combing through the various offers available now to help you find the best deals on top-rated items. Many of the items available for Target’s Cyber Monday sales are only available online, and many others are only available for in-store pickup, regardless of whether you order online or shop in stores. So make sure to check those details before you buy. It’s worth noting that Target will give a partial refund if anything you buy from their stores between now and Dec. 24 drops further in price during the holiday season. You just have to ask.

Since this year’s holiday shopping landscape is different from years past due to supply chain disruptions and microchip shortages affecting everything from laptops to toys, you may want to take a look at our tips for getting the best deals this month. Shopping early and looking for alternative delivery methods like curbside pickup when shopping online, for example, are going to be key if you want your items to arrive on time for the holidays.

Cookware and Small Appliances

This Ninja toaster oven received middle-of-the-road scores in CR’s tests. While it did a pretty good job at turning out toast and is fairly easy to clean, its reheating and baking capabilities are just okay. Although we didn’t test the rotisserie or air-frying function, this model comes equipped with those features. Another positive: It flips up when not in use to minimize counter space.

This 7-quart air fryer from Power XL has a measured capacity of 5.7 quarts, on the larger end of the models we’ve tested. The electronic controls and programmed settings are among the easiest to read and use, and it’s relatively quiet. But the 60-day warranty is unusually short.

The Casper Hybrid innerspring mattress earns top marks in all of our side sleeper support tests, making it a better choice for side sleepers than the Original listed above. Large/tall back sleeper support earns scores nearly as high, while petite and average back sleeper support ratings are middle-of-the-road. Overall, CR members thought their Casper innersprings were a nice choice for comfort and owner satisfaction in our member survey.

CR’s test results: Casper Original Hybrid (2020)

CR’s tests show that Tuft & Needle makes decent mattresses all-around. The Original got above-average scores in our tests for all side sleepers and middling scores for back sleepers. It also performed well in breathability tests, so it might be a good option if you sleep hot. But our testers found that this model may be softer than advertised, so be sure to read up on each model before you buy.

The AirPods Pro aren’t the best scoring noise-canceling headphones in our ratings, but they might be the most popular. And unlike the earlier generations of AirPods (such as the second-generation ones listed above), the Pros deliver when it comes to performance, with solid sound quality and fantastic noise cancellation. If you’ve been thinking about picking up a pair, we’ve been seeing some great discounts during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday season.

You could spend top dollar on the latest noise-canceling headphones from Bose, or you could pick up an older model that gets the exact same score in our ratings. The Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II are still one of the top picks in our noise-canceling headphone ratings, with outstanding scores in our tests. They have long battery life and other sophisticated features, such as adjustable levels of sound blocking and an ambient sound mode that lets outside noise in when you want to hear it.

Even at full price, these earphones deliver great value. They have impressive sound quality, beating competitors that cost more than three times as much and earning a spot in CR’s picks for the best true wireless headphones of 2021. When you find them on sale at more than 20 percent off, they’re even more compelling.

The JBuds Air have an advertised 3.5-hour battery life and come with a carrying case that will recharge the earphones for an additional two cycles. Other features include support for various digital assistants, three switchable EQ modes to change the tonal balance of the sound, and according to JLab, water resistance. (We don’t test that feature or battery life.)

Sony makes some of the best true wireless noise-canceling earbuds on the market, and the WF-1000XM4 is the company’s best model yet. You can expect exceptional audio quality and sound-blocking performance, our testing shows, as well as advanced features such as variable noise cancellation, which you can adjust to let in more or less sound, a monitor mode to actively pipe in audio from your surroundings, and the Speak-to-Chat function, which can automatically pause the music when you start talking.

According to Sony, the XM4 has a 5.5-hour battery life and comes with a portable charging case that holds 16 hours’ worth of power before it needs to be plugged in again. We’re not seeing jaw-dropping bargains on this model so far, but we have spotted a couple of worthwhile discounts.

Fitness Trackers and Smartwatches

In terms of sheer functionality, the SE probably sits at the sweet spot of Apple’s smartwatch lineup. It’s got the look and feel of Apple’s top-of-the-line watches, the outgoing Series 6 and the new Series 7, and most of the important functionality. The major differences? No blood oxygen and EKG functions, a slightly slower processor, and a smaller display than that on the 7. In our labs, the SE performs on a par with its more-expensive siblings, too.

CR’s test results: Apple Watch SE

Sleeker than its predecessor, the inexpensive Versa 2 smartwatch features a bright AMOLED display and a microphone that lets you use voice commands to access the built-in Amazon Alexa digital assistant. The model receives praise from our testers for being easy to use and read in both bright and low light. It’s also great at tracking steps and heart rate.

CR’s test results: Fitbit Versa 2

If your gift-getter is a runner, the Versa 3 is a solid smartwatch choice because it has built-in GPS capability. The speaker and the mic allow you to take calls when the watch is tethered to your smartphone. Our testers found the model’s step counting and heart-rate monitoring to be solid, too.

CR’s test results: Fitbit Versa 3

Loaded with features and style, the Luxe is a fitness tracker that drifts into smartwatch territory. In addition to Fitbit’s robust array of fitness functions, the model adds an EKG function usually found on smartwatches and some stress-monitoring features. The slim, sleek, and shiny case works as well in the office as the gym.

The Show 5 is Amazon’s smallest smart screen, which makes it flexible in terms of where and how you position it. But our testers report that the sound is kind of unpleasant: Grainy, hazy, smeared, and sizzly are some of the terms they use to describe it. So unless you’re very tight on money or space, you may want to spring for the larger and better-sounding Show 8.

CR’s test results: Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd gen.)

Not long ago Amazon’s Echo speakers were smart, but they weren’t much good at doing what speakers do: actually playing music. The newest Echo model addresses that complaint, offering improved sound with strong but slightly boomy bass, and enough volume to fill a medium-sized room. It also sports a Zigbee smart home hub that allows it to link directly to many Zigbee-compatible devices—think Philips Hue smart bulbs, some Yale smart locks, and certain Honeywell thermostats—without requiring an app. At the regular price, it’s a solid value, but at 40 percent off, it’s definitely worth a look—and you can find it for a full 50 percent off at Home Depot.

CR’s test results: Amazon Echo (4th Gen)

This 4K stick-style player has a nice array of content and features—including voice control and Dolby Vision HDR—for the price. You can control it from Alexa-enabled devices such as the Echo and Dot, and use the included remote to control power and volume on many TVs and sound bar speakers.

This is an updated version of the player, which has an Alexa remote control with dedicated buttons for Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix. Note that Target is selling an earlier version of the same streaming player, which is the one CR tested in our labs.

The Nest Mini is the least expensive way to get Google Assistant into your life. But the sound quality is marginal at best, neither loud nor particularly clear. The Nest Mini is, however, a solid option if you want to add smart speaker functionality to another speaker.
