Food Safety & Sustainability Guide

Published: April 2014

Since Consumer Reports' first issue in 1936, when we investigated bacteria in milk, we’ve helped expose food hazards that can sicken and kill.

We test a wide range of food and drinks, and we also report on important food-safety and health issues. We have a unique ability to identify safety hazards, quantify them with testing, and fight for solutions through regulation and marketplace pressure.

In this Food Safety & Sustainability Guide, you'll find details about a range of food categories and information about government action, news events, calls to action, and more. Also visit our Food Safety & Sustanaibility Center for more information.

(The Food Safety & Sustainability Center is supported by grants and individuals. You can donate at ConsumerReports.org/safefood, or send a check to Consumer Reports Foundation, 101 Truman Ave., Yonkers, N.Y. 10703, noting “Food Safety” in the check’s memo.)
