2021 GMC Yukon is part of the General Motors recall.

General Motors is recalling certain 2021 model-year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles with third-row seating.

More on Vehicle Safety

The problem stems from outboard seat belts that may have been misrouted or trapped behind the folding apparatus for the third-row seats during vehicle assembly. This could result in damaged seat belts that can break during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

All of the affected models are from the 2021 model year and were built before Nov. 18, 2020. Models without a third-row seat are not being recalled.

This recall involves 94,641 SUVs. The recall is expected to begin on May 3, 2021.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models built before Nov. 18, 2020.

The problem: The outboard seat belts for the third-row seats may have been entrapped or misrouted behind the outboard seat-folding mechanism during assembly.

The fix: Dealerships will inspect the third-row outboard seat belts, replace damaged belts, and reroute them if necessary, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturers: Cadillac customer service can be reached at 800-458-8006, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, and GMC at 800-462-8782.

NHTSA campaign number: 21V-190. GM’s reference number for this recall is N202313000.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have one. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly.
