• 2018-2021 and 2023 Acura TLX sedans

Due to a manufacturing defect, the sensors may not be able to detect the weight of the front passenger. This is important because modern vehicles suppress airbag deployment if the airbag sensors detect an infant in a child seat, a child, or a smaller adult. If the sensor fails, it could increase the risk of injury for those passengers in a crash. If this problem occurs, drivers may notice that the airbag/SRS warning light is lit up on the dashboard, or that the passenger airbag indicator is off.

To fix the problem, Honda and Acura dealerships will replace the airbag sensors, free of charge.

There have been 228 warranty claims and no injuries related to this issue, according to documents provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Honda already recalled over 750,000 vehicles for the same issue in 2024, and issued this recall after learning that more vehicles than previously estimated received the faulty parts.

Honda and Acura Airbag Recall Details

The problem: Because of a natural disaster at a supplier’s manufacturing plant, the company that made the airbag sensors for the affected vehicles temporarily changed the base material of the circuit board in the airbag seat weight sensor. Unfortunately, this material proved insufficient and could increase strain on components, potentially causing a capacitor to crack and short-circuit.

The fix: Honda will replace the airbag sensor with new parts that meet specifications.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners of affected vehicles can call Honda or Acura at 888-234-2138.

NHTSA campaign number: 26V332. Honda and Acura’s own numbers for this recall are BOL, WO9, OOA, WOM, XOH, NOC, POD, BOE, UOF, POB, EOG, AOI, QO8, TOJ, DO7, and SOK.
