Toyota is recalling over 393,000 2022 to 2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickups and 2023 to 2025 Sequoia Hybrid SUVs to fix backup cameras that might not display an image when the car is in Reverse.

    More On Recalls

Because of a software error, these vehicles may display a black, green, or half-green screen instead of an image. In addition to increasing the risk of a crash, this problem means these vehicles are not in compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards.

To fix the problem, Toyota dealerships will perform a software update that should also eliminate a delay in how quickly the backup camera image displays an image after the vehicle is put in Reverse.

As with all recalls, new models in dealer stock will not be able to be sold until the recall repair is complete. Owners who already paid for a repair related to this recall may be eligible for reimbursement from Toyota.

The problem: A software error might cause the backup camera’s image to display improperly or not at all. As such, these vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111, titled “Rear Visibility.”

The fix: Toyota dealerships will perform a software update that should fix this issue.
