The Edge is a car-based SUV with a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is available, but the Ford crossover SUV doesn't offer a third-row seat. Ride is good and the powertrain is quite strong, but lacks refinement. The Edge isn't particularly agile, though its handling is ultimately secure. Interior fit and finish are unimpressive. IIHS crash-test results are commendable.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It accelerates quickly and does not feel like it will fall over in a fast tight turn."

Howard D., MD (2009 Ford Edge)

"It seems a little top heavy. I am cautious about driving it in bad weather situations. It is a 2 wheel drive rather than AWD or 4W."

Anonymous, CA (2009 Ford Edge)

"Very good"

Anonymous, FL (2009 Ford Edge)

"Handles adequately, but has more sway and roll on sharp curves than I think it should have. Acceleration is noticeably sluggish."

Anonymous, MS (2009 Ford Edge)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Love heated seats"

Anonymous, IA (2009 Ford Edge)

"I like the car overall. The road noise is a major detractor though. What's worse is the headroom in the car. I am 5' 11" and I constantly bang my head getting in and out of the car. I feel like the roof is right on my head when in it also. Without major restyling for more headroom and addressing the road noise problem I will not buy this particular vehicle again."

S P., ME (2009 Ford Edge)

"Ride is a little bumpy, A/C is sluggish at times (slow to cool). wind noise is very loud."

Anonymous, MS (2009 Ford Edge)

"Driver leg room"

Anonymous, MI (2009 Ford Edge)
