Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. The well-proportioned 2014-2015 Sorento is sized between small and mid-sized SUVs, with plenty of interior space and easy maneuverability. It's also simple to climb in or out and it offers an optional, though tiny third-row seat to bring seating to seven.

Even though this iteration of the Sorento looks like previous versions, the 2014 update brought a lively and refined new V6, a new electric power steering system, revisions to the suspension and interior upgrades. The new instrument panel and control layout are easy to manage. Comprehensive infotainment and in-car communications are available too and work well. Fuel economy averaged 20 mpg overall -- above average for a V6-powered SUV in this class.

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Kia Sorento owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Backup camera display failed. Since it occasionally flickers on and off, the problem is not the camera or a fuse problem"

Anonymous, NH (2014 Kia Sorento EX 3.3-L V6)

"Two times the backup sensors failed and needed to be replaced under warranty. The backup camera failed once and needed to be replaced under warranty"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Kia Sorento Limited 3.3-L V6)

Thomas S., VA (2014 Kia Sorento EX 3.3-L V6)

"At about 8,000 miles, frequently I would get a Korean message on the display screen and could not get rid of it. I tried to reboot and it worked a few times and eventually stopped working. The dealership ended up replacing the entire system with a"

Kathleen C., CA (2014 Kia Sorento LX 3.3-L V6)

"Display screen freezes up and flashes back and forth"

Kimberly R., NY (2014 Kia Sorento Limited 3.3-L V6)

"Touch screen input is not properly mapped to on screen buttons. Requires very hard manual touch. Dealer unable to fix and it is out of warranty"

James S., FL (2014 Kia Sorento Limited 3.3-L V6)

"We have had the electronic dashboard freeze up serval times and not respond to any command. After turning the car off and leaving it for a day and then turning it back on again the system seems to have reset and worked properly. The Sirius radio system continually drops the connection even when driving through flat and totally unobscured areas with no weather destructions and perfectly clear skies. The Sirius Radio drops in and out once or twice every couple hours. This only lasts for a few seco"

Dietmar S., WI (2014 Kia Sorento Limited 3.3-L V6)

"GPS continually overstates or understates estimated arrival time. Corrects itself as it gets closer. Has been up to 45 min off in an hour drive. Comparison: (Garmin. Nuvi almost dead on). $250 map update fee is obscene"

Maurice M., IL (2014 Kia Sorento LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The navigation system frequently cannot find common addresses. I have to use my smartphone to find mini addresses that simply art recognized by the Kia's navigation system and after asking the dealership for updates they say there are none and if there were I would have to pay a lot of money to have them installed. Next the navigation system does not display street names when on the freeway. When traveling on the freeway it only gives exit numbers not the street name so it is virtually useless f"

Edward C., RI (2014 Kia Sorento Unsure Unsure)

"At least a dozen times in the last 4 months no radio sound will come out of speakers, but the navigation voice and bluetooth still works. Once you restart the engine, it comes back. Must be a software glitch"
