So many small SUVs look like the boxes they were shipped in. Not the Kia Sportage, whose sporty ovoid styling stands out in a rectilinear field. The Sportage offers nimble handling and a roomy rear seat, but otherwise comes up short. Its stiff ride and loud cabin won't endear itself over the long haul. Acceleration with the base four-cylinder engine is leisurely and a lackluster 22 mpg overall proves to be no consolation.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“drivers seat has air vents for both heat and cooling. I love both. I wish it had the same in the passengers seat also. The navigation system works well with the computer generated voice but on 2 trips this month we have heard another very human voice, very quietly, tell or ask us something. Too quite for us to understand what was stated. I don't think that's right! I'll check my manual and probably call or take it to the service department to be checked out!”

Anonymous, OR (2013 Kia Sportage)

“bad mpg”

Anonymous, MA (2013 Kia Sportage)

“Except driver seat , very uncomfortable.”

Anonymous, NJ (2013 Kia Sportage)

“The vehicle is a bit noisy. It could have been insulated better to mask road noise and tire noise.”

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Got my Sportage when KIA was expanding its attempt to increase market share so they were offering sale prices and rebates. Low interest rate from my CU helped. Good gas mileage and outstanding reliability have also been a plus.”

RIC C., CA (2013 Kia Sportage)

“Best warranty in its class.”

Anonymous, IN (2013 Kia Sportage)

“For the cost paid for this vehicle, you cannot get more value for your money. Other than normal oil changes, I have had no repairs or problems whatsoever except putting 2 pounds of air in the left front tire in over two years of driving. The styling and workmanship are first class, could not get more for your money in any new car purchase..”

PAUL S., FL (2013 Kia Sportage)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“Styling, particularly the slope down and limited visibility at the rear are my major reason for dissatisfaction, it didn't bother me at first, but now I want a vehicle more boxy with better visibility out the rear window.”

BETH L., OK (2013 Kia Sportage)

“very good”

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
