So many small SUVs look like the boxes they were shipped in. Not the Kia Sportage, whose sporty ovoid styling stands out in a rectilinear field. One of the older designs in this red-hot segment, the Sportage offers nimble handling and a roomy rear seat, but otherwise comes up short.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It could use a more powerful engine! I wanted a four cylinder and knew the acceleration was not quick but it is adaquate."

Charles M., FL (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Excellent acceleration which is key for my extensive highway driving.Very nimble, feel I definitely have control of the situation."

Mike S., FL (2015 Kia Sportage)

"The Sportage handles, accelerates and drives about as well as one would expect from a small suv. The all wheel drive works seamlessly and, combined with the ESP, provides very stable handling in all weather conditions, which, because we live in a rural mountainous area with quickly changing weather conditions, was a very important consideration and reason for buying this vehicle. Whether it’s deep snow or freezing rain, the car does an excellent job of keeping the occupants safe."

Ken M., BC (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Acceleration is pretty good, but doesn't handle well in snowy conditions."

Anonymous, OH (2015 Kia Sportage)

"it accelerates well when going up mountains."

Gerald V., ND (2015 Kia Sportage)

"It accelerates very well and the handling is great. Drives like a sports car. Very responsive."

Pamela S., NJ (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Handling is fair. Cornering should be done at cautious speeds. Surprisingly strong acceleration when not using ECO mode."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Peppy acceleration, provides needed acceleration when I need it no lag."

Anonymous, NV (2015 Kia Sportage)

"The major concern I have with this car and with many modern vehicles is that, in order to provide increased passenger safety, the blind spots created by increasing the size of the door pillars and mirrors can be dangerous. Something I particularly like about this car is the ease of use of the climate controls and the radio/cd player. We found that many modern vehicles systems were much too distracting to use safely while driving."

KENNETH M., BC (2015 Kia Sportage)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Despite getting a new filter installed the car will pick up exhaust fumes from trucks."

Anonymous, PA (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Road noise can be annoying on rough pavement."

Mike S., FL (2015 Kia Sportage)

"My seats are a vinyl or leather material which I like but they seats have tiny pinholes...everything gets in those pinholes and stays there unless you get a toothpick or needles and dig what's in them out. I am not happy with that...things have spilt and I have had to spend allot of times digging out the spilt matter in the little pin holes because if I don't do that the seats look crappy."

Anonymous, NC (2015 Kia Sportage)

"i enjoy driving the Kia, I drive long distances on occasion and the vehicle handles well. The noise level is fairly quiet."

Gerald V., ND (2015 Kia Sportage)

"The seats in front are to short in the thigh. There is not enough adjustment."

Brian H., ON (2015 Kia Sportage)

"the seats are uncomfortable for our lower backs and the seats don't have a lumbar adjustment."

Anonymous, PA (2015 Kia Sportage)

"Seats are comfortable. AC ports for back seat do not emit the air at a high volume. Ride is fairly comfortable. A little noisy especially at higher speeds."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Kia Sportage)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"lease 24 months @$50/month thru Rick Case Kia Sunrise Fl(#1 Kia dealer in world.)"

THEODORE F., FL (2015 Kia Sportage)

"From my experience, KIA does an excellent job giving you the best value for your money. Things that are standard in the KIA would be considered extras with many other auto manufacturers."

Anonymous, CO (2015 Kia Sportage)

"best price for a small suv"

Anonymous, AB (2015 Kia Sportage)

"There is no question that the car is a good value. My reason for the purchase was the 100,000 mile warranty."

BILL R., AZ (2015 Kia Sportage)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?".
