So many small SUVs look like the boxes they were shipped in. Not the Kia Sportage, whose sporty ovoid styling stands out in a rectilinear field. One of the older designs in this red-hot segment, the Sportage offers nimble handling and a roomy rear seat, but otherwise comes up short. Its stiff ride and loud cabin won't endear itself over the long haul.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Handles a bit rough, you feel every little bump in the road. When attempting to accelerate if often pauses and has a very slow take-off.”

LYLE F., FL (2016 Kia Sportage)

“I made a mistake in not buying the upgraded seating options...other than that, the SUV has performed very well--it's tidy and easy to drive and park and we like it very much”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Kia Sportage)

“Granted I traded in my Mini Cooper S so there, of course, would be multiple differences. Mostly acceleration, slower and less aggressive in maneuvering. The overall styling is beautiful nicely planned out from interior to exterior. The vehicle is roomy for its size of SUV and much sportier looking yet sleek with loads of safety built in. Without its name plate you would never guess it is a Kia.”

Anonymous, WA (2016 Kia Sportage)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Leather could be more supple and there is more road noise than expected.”

Anonymous, WA (2016 Kia Sportage)

“Bumpy ride. AC seems to shuffle back and forth between recycle and fresh air, causing periods of very poor cooling and excessive fumes from other vehicles. Exhaust fumes from other cars is overwhelming.”

LYLE F., FL (2016 Kia Sportage)

“Road noise”

FREDERICK M., NY (2016 Kia Sportage)

“Noise when rear windows are down no mirrors heated no rear window wash”

GUNTER L., ON (2016 Kia Sportage)

“Dollar for dollar, I'll put my Sportage against any small cuv, it's really that nice and it's quick.”

HENRY B., NY (2016 Kia Sportage)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“good locking from the front and rear but a bit to bulky from the side”

GUNTER L., ON (2016 Kia Sportage)

“While driving, at any speed over 25 mph, you cannot open only one window because of the noise. You have to open all 4. It is almost painful when you are going faster that 45MPhil. The console is too small and too far back to be comfortable for the driver.”

AMY M., CA (2016 Kia Sportage)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
