While the previous-generation Sportage was an also-ran, this fourth-generation redesign jumps almost to the top of the small SUV class. Distinctions like the rakish roofline and spry demeanor remain, but improvements include more civilized road manners, a roomier interior, improved crash-worthiness, and better visibility.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"240 horses provides great acceleration, but there is a split second lag while the turbo kicks in. Handling is very, very good. Tight turning circle is a plus. The ride is comfortable but not luxurious, it's a nice blend of sportiness and refinement. Not a boat."

THOMAS I., CA (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Acceleration is lacking and pauses before accelerating"

KAY R., UT (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Very good and very smooth acceleration, various settings available including ECO, and Sport mode for handling. Hugs the road very well, and is responsive."

MARIANNE L., FL (2017 Kia Sportage)

"The turbo is very responsive. Passing is effortless."

Anonymous, AB (2017 Kia Sportage)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Front seats are nice. Wish there was lumbar support in the passenger seat. Love the ride and cool climate controlled frony seats."

NANCY E., MO (2017 Kia Sportage)

"front seat headrests seem to tilt forward too much are uncomfortable for some"

Anonymous, DC (2017 Kia Sportage)

"It is very large inside, like a bigger car. Seats, visual, ride are very comfortable."

DAVID C., NC (2017 Kia Sportage)

"good confort in front seats, new to me owned for one week"

JOHN P., NY (2017 Kia Sportage)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"To new"

Anonymous, TN (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Was blown away by what was standard in this non-luxury vehicle. Every bell and whistle was there without paying extra for it. It drives like a dream, and the parking assist gets me into my garage with amazing ease. All this for a price that beats all competitors. I am beyond satisfied. Feel like I am driving a spaceship! Kia has my back, so I will be buying from them in the future, if they keep up this quality for such a great price."

KAREN P., NH (2017 Kia Sportage)

"This new version of the Sportage is very nice looking. Everything inside the vehicle is also nice. The value of around $31,000.00 is a bit high for my taste, this could just be me, but it does not even include the cargo cover which it was standard in my previous vehicle Kia Sorento. I am not sure about the back mats either. The center console is a deep box which it makes it difficult to find anything. It does not come with a CD or tape player nor has the ability to pick up the codes from my gara"

MONICA S., CA (2017 Kia Sportage)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Love the look. Blacked out grill, headlights and rear of car."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Very cool styling inside and out. Great color choices."

JAMES P., FL (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Updated since 16' looks great from all viewpoints"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Kia Sportage)

"Love the fact that vehicle styling is different - more macho - than the typical compact SUV."

RONALD C., NC (2017 Kia Sportage)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
