Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. Model Summary
With its freshening, the Ram emerges as perhaps the most civilized full-sized pickup to date. Its coil-spring rear suspension helps lend a cushioned ride and handling is competent for such a big vehicle. Our Big Horn Crew Cab, with its smooth, effortless 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and slick eight-speed automatic, averaged 15 mpg. The base 4.7-liter V8, mated to a six-speed automatic, is underwhelming and gets no better mpg than the 5.7-liter V8. An available V6 is plenty capable. The spacious cab is luxury-car quiet and the Uconnect Infotainment system, with its eight-inch touch screen, is easy to use.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Went to the car wash and soap got on the back seat and took the color out of the cloth back seat. I can not find where it came in at. The dealer did find a leak around the cargo light and sealed the leak"

Anonymous, TX (2011 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"With a car wash or rain, water leaked into the backseat and floor. On several occasions I had to use a heater to dry out the vehicle. The cause ended up being a poorly sealed 3rd brake light mounted above the rear window. Bought a 3/4" foam gasket and replaced old gasket. Hasn't leaked since"

John R., IN (2011 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Radiator clamp broke which led to antifreeze leak"

Anonymous, NV (2011 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Rattle at highway speeds from the front passenger door. Can't get the dealer to look at it because they have just one "trim" guy and he works weekdays only and I don't want to leave it overnight and get charged $100 an hour"

Tom K., TX (2011 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)

"Front passenger door has a rattle that only happens at highway speed. I've removed the interior door panel and the whole exterior mirror and it's still there. Then there's the occasional rattle inside the center console. And the back seat rattles at low speeds if your going over rough pavement or gravel. No matter if it's flipped up or down, if there's no one sitting in the back seat, it rattles."

Good thing it was only two blocks (one signal light also) from dealer - they discovered the solenoid had "gone bad" and had to be replaced. i am supposing it had gotten contaminated with something"

"camera broke after car wash. dealer replaced"

David T., BC (2011 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Radio

"One day, a few years ago, there was a loud pop. So loud I thought a nearby car blew a tire. And ever since there's been a buzzing sound that can only be drowned out, but never eliminated. And the low volume sound quality is warbled and distorted. The dealer has only been able to offer their trim guy to troubleshoot it. But he's backed up for 2 weeks and I'd need to leave the vehicle. Maybe that's more of a dealer problem and not a vehicle problem. But I've gone to a stereo shop also and they say it could be the head unit, could be one of the multiple amplifiers, could be a connection or a wire harness problem, etc. So for them to troubleshoot it would be expensive and they'd rather just install an aftermarket system. Except any of those may or may not interface with the steering wheel controls and probably wouldn't have all the features of the factory system. So I just deal with it and get very frustrated when I have to explain the noise to passengers. If Chrysler is going to put sophisticated and complex electronics in their vehicles, maybe they could support their inevitable problems by staffing their dealerships with more than just one guy for all things interior. I've attempted to fix this problem myself. But to confirm or eliminate the most likely component at fault--the dash head unit--I need to buy a used one for at least $300 and just hope that it's OK, then get it serialized to my vehicle just to enable it to operate--a service that the dealer charges $100 for. Then suppose it's not the head, or the replacement head has some other problem? Then what? No thanks. I'll just deal with it. Like I'm also dealing with the inoperative visor mirror lights and the flickering exterior courtesy lights under the side mirrors, and the weird map light problem where they come on when the doors open, but don't operate in any other way. And don't even get me started on the rattles and squeaks."
