Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

All Ram 1500s now come with an efficient, slick-shifting eight-speed automatic, a pickup-truck exclusive. Most get a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that delivers seamless power and still returns a class-average 15 mpg overall. A 3.6-liter V6 engine is standard, aiding fuel economy and a significant savings over the Hemi. It does an admirable job motivating this big truck, as long as your towing needs are modest.

Anonymous, PA (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Impossible to get incoming calls to go straight to in cab system. Every inbound call requires at least a double button push on cell to get call to go to in cab speaker. Brother bought same truck at same time as me. Has same problem. When first stRting truck, if I put car in reverse before waiting 2-3 minutes, the reverse camera overrides all other technology. Prevents phone from pairing, etc."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Ram 1500 3.6-L V6)

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"There is a squeaking/rattling between the cab and bed of the truck. Still need dealer to check out and fix, just purchased..."

Neil W., AZ (2018 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7-L V8)
Wind noise

"The wind noise coming from the Driver side is terrible. I have had it diagnosed by two different Dealers and they don't know what to do. The wind noise is very loud. I am a disabled veteran and one of my issues is hearing. I was working with Ram for several months about the wind noise and in the end, they were really nasty to me. I asked them to exchange the vehicle due to my disability. They told me they don't have to do anything for me as it was not a safety or mechanical issue and closed the case. It was a-lot nastier than I am making it sound. The wind noise is so bad, I only have 10,000 miles on a 2018 vehicle. Than God it is a lease. I will never buy a Ram again."

Jeffrey G., MN (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"air leak around door on drivers side"

Mick P., NE (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

What Owners Say

Driveline vibration

"was faulty u joint"

Judith B., PA (2018 Ram 1500 Express 3.6-L V6)

"We purchased this vehicle to use as a work truck. the first day we picked it up it had a vibration starting at about 50 mph. I had been driving it and noticed it. I then had my husband drive it to be sure I wasn't crazy. He said it was vibrating so we took it to our selling dealer and they balanced all four wheels. Said It's fixed now. Well I drove it another couple of days. Now WORSE. Took it back and this time I waited for seven hours for them to change out all four wheels and tires from another truck with exact tires. NOW it's fixed. We test drove it and they sent me home with a loaner car. I didn't buy a car for work, I bought a TRUCK. They called the next day and said they were replacing the drivetrain because these trucks have had a lot of problems with them. Now waited another full day for the part and the whole NEXT day for the replacing of the drivetrain. So this is 3 full days with no truck. We picked it up and the service manager drove for the test drive on a not very smooth road. Well it still shook but I was willing to give it a try. I took it home and now it starts at 45 mph. I just took it to another dealer to see if they can fix it. If not we will be notifying the Company for further help. We will probably be going for another new vehicle. Which I imagine will be a big problem for us. When you pay well over $30,000.00 for a vehicle you want one that runs correctly. So far I am very unhappy with this vehicle."

Julie W., OH (2018 Ram 1500 Tradesman 3.6-L V6)
Electrical failure

"Truck is only one year old should not be having these problems with the wiring harness in my opinion."

Jeffrey G., MN (2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn 5.7-L V8)

"The air quit blowing out of vents. Dealer replaced 3 wiring harness and returned to me. Had to bring back to dealer for no cold air blowing out of vents. Dealer is now going to replace heater box. Truck was in repair shop for 2 weeks each time. I was provided with a free rental each time."

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Transmission rebuild or replacement

"on the third day of ownership the transmission completely stopped going into reverse. Took it to dealer who at first couldn't duplicate the problem and said there wasn't a problem. as soon as I got into the truck again it wouldn't go into reverse. They were then able to duplicate and said they would have to contact Chrysler and told me to drive it home just try not to go into reverse. Drove home and called Chrysler myself who told me to go back to dealer and they will provide me a loaner. Truck was in the shop close to twenty one days. They tried to replace everything in the transmission to no avail and finally had to order a brand new transmission. The initial problem occurred with around 140 miles on the odometer. Will never buy a Chrysler vehicle again."
