What Owners Say
"The rear visibility is awful. So, yes, we get 47+ MPG. That is great. But, Toyota must solve the problems with visibility and also acceleration from full stop is not good. If we got 47+ mpg and improves to the visibility, acceleration, and slightly more comfortable, then we would be loyal customers. We still might go back to a Prius, but now we would look at EVs like Chevy, Tesla, etc --"
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"It drives fairly smooth for a small car, but it handles and accelerates poorly. After driving my Prius for five years, I am not sure that I will purchase another one."
Terry M., NB (2010 Toyota Prius)"acceleration is ok, handling is surprisingly good"
Robert O., CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"When we first got the Prius, we treated it very carefully. Now that we've had the Prius for a number of years, we drive it more roughly. Of course, we brake for red lights and stop signs at some distance in order to charge the battery. But we accelerate away from intersections in a fairly aggressive way."
Anonymous, ON (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius handles well on highways and mountain back roads. It has much more power climbing the mountains than we ever expected in a hybrid. It corners well and moves very easily during "city" driving."
Bett S., WV (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is good with the Prius, especially in power mode. Drives great for an alternative fuel vehicle"
Joan G., FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"It's not a powerhouse by any means but gets the job done economically and reliably."
Anonymous, IA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very good handling and good acceleration."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"This vehicle has enough power to keep and exceed the pace of freeway traffic including climbing over western mountain ranges. This vehicle has an excellent turning radius to enable getting in and out of tight places."
Anonymous, OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"Surprisingly quick and nimble considering the fuel economy"
Leo C., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Noise factor w/ touring model can be quite loud. Gas saving car is excellent."
Anonymous, AZ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Sluggish acceleration. Noisy drive"
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The excellent miles per gallon."
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Drives like a Prius."
Anonymous, TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"When driving , I notice the brakes release when I drive over a bump in the road. I complained about this multiple times for the first few years I had the car and was told there was no issue"
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"Better acceleration than I expected in a hybrid and it handles very well. But I love the gas mileage."
R M., NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"It is remarkably fast, gets great mileage and is capable of carrying a significant amount of "stuff" in the back deck area and especially with the back seats folded down."
Anonymous, AZ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Once you learn to be smooth, the car is surprisingly fun to drive. Especially in suburban traffic, it becomes fun to try to max out mileage. Teaches you to anticipate and read traffic - actually good for defensive driving as well. While the acceleration is certainly not neck-snapping, it's equal to most family cars from the 80's-90's. We have the Prius level V, on 17-inch tires, and it actually handles pretty well, though the ride is a little firm."
Thomas N., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Still very good handling and acceleration. Drives nearly like new"
Tom B., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"For a hybrid it can go fast if needed. I like that it shows real time fuel efficiency."
Anonymous, IN (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is fine if power mode is used. Turning and braking is terrible."
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"peppy but noisy acceeleration"
Morris B., TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"For a car that 40-60 mpg, it is surprisingly fun to drive."
Anonymous, MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"Both are great"
Kathy R., GA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Little stands out. It seems to accelerate adequately and handles ok."
Anonymous, IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Mileage improves to 62.5 when traveling to Michigan and back. (240 miles) long term mileage over last 35000 miles has been 51.5. I keep setting on eco all of the time."
Ed K., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Slow to accelerate compared to my Honda Civic."
Anonymous, OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"Oddly, the Prius has a power button that significantly improves acceleration with no observed loss in gas mileage. The acceleration with the power button makes the Prius driving experience OK versus a frustratingly unresponsive experience without the power button. Still, I would put up with boring for the great gas mileage, but I don't have to. Yeh!"
Anonymous, MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius does something weird when you hit a bump. You experience a momentary feeling of losing control. It's hard to describe. I believe if you're braking when you hit the bump, it feels like the brakes disengage for a moment. I've never experienced this in any other car."
Uzma S., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is limited, good handling in all sorts of conditions"
Anonymous, CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"I still find the acceleration surprisingly quick when passing on a two lane road."
Anonymous, ON (2010 Toyota Prius)"Sluggish. Not precise in handling - especially compared to the 2017 Prius Prime Plus."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is good and handling is outstanding for its size."
Anonymous, UT (2010 Toyota Prius)"I hate the bar going across the back that doesn't let me see lots behind me, and then hard to see to the side looking back."
Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"It is a city car and can't be beat for gas mileage in stop and go traffic. Very sluggish acceleration. Steering is a little vague."
Anonymous, LA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Adequate acceleration. Good handling. Stable on roads. Good in winter."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"I have found that the acceleration and handling of this vehicle is all it needs to be for city driving. I have taken the vehicle on the road (interstate highway) and it handles well there too."
John W., MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"good"
Anonymous, VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Easy to accelerate when entering freeways. The Prius handles well and can turn quickly without skidding. I have avoided sudden traffic problems because of its ability to steer quickly."
Hartwell W., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"difficulty breaking and how it runs in poor weather"
Richard T., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"If I step on the brake on a rough road surface the car loses braking power for a half second until it is restored. This is very disconcerting and could be dangerous. I have brought it to dealer several times but they say it is "normal" and cannot be changed and is due to the change from the regenerative braking system to the normal braking system. Calls to Toyota have not helped. This is unacceptable!"
Richard M., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Learning to drive a Prius takes some practice. Acceleration is modest unless you step down on it, and then your gas mileage suffers."
Mike W., SC (2010 Toyota Prius)"When on ECO mode, the acceleration is sluggish. This is to be expected, of course, but potential buyers should be aware of it. When in either standard or Power modes, acceleration is similar to other small Toyota cars - satisfactory."
Anonymous, CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"its as peppy as i need it to be"
AMY C., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration from stopped in traffic is fun and not overly dramatic!"
Anonymous, CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Turning radius is very good - can U-turn in any 3 lane road without stopping. Acceleration is okay - but improves if POWER mode is enabled."
PHILIP W., GA (2010 Toyota Prius)"ABS turns on un-expectedly when braking and going over a bump simultaneously causing loss of braking at critical time. Other 2010 owners have told me they experience same scary event, every time."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"acceleration average on hills and on ramps. handling good"
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"excellent gas mileage, acceleration & handling just a fun car to drive but because of low clearance must watch going over speed bumps & rutty stone roads."
BETTY S., OH (2010 Toyota Prius)"brakes are a little soft."
ABIGAIL G., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"The 2010 Prius has awful acceleration, poor rear visibility, and excellent mpg. I'm not sure it is safe, and we choose another car for longer trips."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is fine. Handling is no better than the minivan we had before this. A sedan should be better."
THOMAS R., MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"Not sure if this comes under how it drives, but my biggest concern about the car in general is the visibility. Thank goodness for the backup camera, but I still don't feel confident."
MELANIE M., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is better than most expect. Really handles WAY better than you would expect. I do push it. I am tall, 6'3. Seats are OK but not great."
DAVID K., MI (2010 Toyota Prius)"It is easy to drive in the mountains and on curving roads."
MARY D., TN (2010 Toyota Prius)"More power than I expected, and excellent handling."
ANITA W., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Slow and a rough ride."
JAMES L., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very comfortable and easy to drive. Great gas mileage, holds plenty of gear. Nothing to complain about!"
Anonymous, NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"It generally drives well, it would be nice if it had a more powerful engine, and the seats aren't that comfortable for long drives, they could be more substantial."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"I feel sorry for people who shy away from this car BECAUSE it is designed to reduce fuel consumption. It is extremely peppy when needed, and handles great."
EARL P., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles ok, but I wish it were more agile and had less road noise. Also the dashboard creaks in cold weather."
STEFAN R., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"It's quicker than people think in "power" mode from 0-30 mph. It has a good ride and has delivered 60 mpg on many occasions!"
JIM C., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Except for the brakes and the traction control, everything else about the car has been excellent. I get as much as 50mph in warm weather, but mileage drops in winter and during AC use, which drops the overall average to closer to 43."
KATHLEEN D., PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration fine even in Eco mode but rough suspension, poor off center steering and terrible second gen hybrid brakes. Also scary lurching over bumps while braking."
RONALD R., TN (2010 Toyota Prius)"The power system is amazing. I use cruise control on trips and have had no problems going 70MPH up mountain grades. The engine transition (on and off while driving) is super smooth."
R K., PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles very "twitchy" particularly on highways at speeds and in a crosswind"
Anonymous, TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"Weak acceleration and noisy engine are its main flaws"
SON H., TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"I like the turning radius and the ease of parking in tight places. I can find nothing to complain about driving on freeways or city streets."
DONALD P., MO (2010 Toyota Prius)"When I press the brakes there is a moment that the car wants to accelerate before the breaks engage."
Anonymous, OH (2010 Toyota Prius)"Horse power is not sufficient for quick acceleration; power mode helps but is a nuisance to turn on and off"
DONNA R., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"When I turn the power mode on, I can go up hill on the ramp and go from 0 to 70 mph well before I run out of ramp space to safely join the traffic in flow. The power mode makes such a huge difference and is very effective."
LUCINDA M., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"it is a trouble free car with reliable performance"
Anonymous, DE (2010 Toyota Prius)"It is surprising how much acceleration this 4 cylinder car has. There is ample acceleration when traveling at speeds from 30 to 50. The best acceleration occurs when one is traveling on the interstate and suddenly must accelerate to get away from a potential accident. This sudden needed acceleration is impressive. I think its rapid response could prevent an accident in certain situations. It handles very well. The steering is responsive."
Anonymous, KY (2010 Toyota Prius)"This is a comment not so much about handling but sight lines. When driving the 2010 Prius, line of sight directly behind you is impeded by the hatchback and useless rear wiper. I think the hatch design needs to change so it doesn't cut across the rear window right at eye level. I think there should be a rear wiper but in the 2010 it doesn't clear the snow, just moves and clumps it in the way blocking your sight."
Anonymous, WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"The brakes fail when going over railroad tracks. It is disconcerting, but they recover as soon as I am off the tracks. The transition between electric and gas power is smooth. Gas mileage on US highways (with periodic towns) is superb. I can get 65 MPG on a 90 mile round trip I make routinely."
Anonymous, WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Accelerates just as good as most other commuter vehicles. It's not sluggish and gives good gas mileage."
JEFFREY L., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The acceleration could be better. In town driving is fine, but highway driving feels sluggish. Handling is not precise. I had a Mazda before this, and loved the more precise steering and handling."
MARGARET B., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"The one problem is poor visibility out the split rear window."
Anonymous, CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Suspension is not good"
Anonymous, OK (2010 Toyota Prius)"acceleration, handling, comfort, great mileage, size,"
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"Accelerates well on demand and turning feature is awesome. Turns on a dime."
THERESE M., NM (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration and handling are good for a hybrid"
Anonymous, OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handles like a much larger sedan, suspension too deep, body roll, poor feedback to drivers re tire traction. Acceleration not good."
STEPHEN R., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"My car has 215,000 + miles on it. Still has good fuel economy.(44mpg). Few major repairs. Good cost to driving ratio. Only on second set of tires. Original brakes."
Anonymous, KY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Overall the car handles well but the rear springs feel a little spongy. The car is woefully underpowered with the four cylinder engine."
DOUGLAS L., OH (2010 Toyota Prius)"Visibility is poor. Not "fun" to drive"
MARGARET L., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Poor acceleration when going up hills."
CARL T., ME (2010 Toyota Prius)"gentle acceleration"
BOB C., HI (2010 Toyota Prius)"When put in the "power mode", it has instant acceleration, and still gets good mileage"
RON D., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I don't like the split rear window."
Anonymous, MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Fine on highways but terrible on New York roads due to horrible road maintenance and awful suspension."
MELVYN R., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling is mushy, acceleration in "Eco" mode is sluggish."
JOHN B., GA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Actually has pretty good acceleration, even in the ECON mode. Handling is good too, as it's small and easy to drive."
THOMAS G., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"surprisingly good acceleration. noisy with hard acceleration. terrible snow car without snow tires or studs. scary going fast on tight curvy roads."
Anonymous, OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"Whenever I drive over a bump the car seems toaccelerate."
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I like everything about it."
CARL B., AR (2010 Toyota Prius)"I drove from the Boston area to Minneapolis and back again in May-June 2015 and had no problems whatsoever. I had been dreading making the trip, but the car made it a pleasure."
RAYMOND M., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is good enough for a family car."
JOEL T., NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Hydroplanes in heavy rain."
Anonymous, MI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Lots of road and wind noise makes the car tiring to drive on longer highway trips. Power is marginal and gas mileage tanks if driving on hilly roads with 4 people because engine has to work so hard."
PETER R., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Braking is an issue at times."
Anonymous, NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Not very exciting acceleration, and I must be careful when merging onto freeways."
Anonymous, MO (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles curves great and has enough power to be going the speed limit when I get on the freeway."
Anonymous, NM (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration uphill is a little weak, but the turning radius is super tight."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"Slow to accelerate. Design blocks driver view toward the back. Responsive handling. Quiet drive."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Same issue about split second delay when braking at low speed over rough terrain that I described for our 2014 Prius. We first experienced this with the 2010 Prius, and I was a little disappointed that it wasn't any better on the 2014 Prius."
L P., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius is easy to drive with a good feel for the road. One thin that is a problem (and still is based on testing a 2016 model) is the traction control is hyper. If you hit a bump or hole while pressing the brake, the car accelerates. It freaks me out."
Anonymous, MO (2010 Toyota Prius)"The only negative is that it does not accelerate well on hills, and uses a lot of gas when going uphill."
ANNE H., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"visibility poor"
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The reason I didn't rate this higher is because of the huge blind spot."
MELANIE S., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Good acceleration & handling."
W W., VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"This car is just FUN to drive. I love the way it just shuts down when no energy is required and responds instantly when it is, it handles superbly even when I drive thinking I'm Mario Andretti. It handles difficult roads like a mountain goat and manages cargo like a pickup truck."
CONNIE R., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius has a BIG blind spot - this is my one gripe about this car. Visibility is bad."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"The car drives well and handles well enough. Going over a bump while decelerating with the brakes there is a momentary sense of no control. This problem may have been improved upon in the 2016 model."
Anonymous, CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"Although I don't use it often, acceleration when using the "POWER" setting is much better than I expected and comes in handy when attempting difficult freeway merges. Handling when driving is excellent, turning radius is great for parking and maneuvering."
JAMES P., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The blind spot at the passenger side represents the weakest link of the Prius in my opinion. Coupling with its low HP, it always gives me discomfort whenever I need to merge right."
PATRICK L., MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"This car has a "power mode" which allows extra power for hill climbing and passing. It works great!"
ROY T., HI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very perky for the great mpg I get. This came with the "sports" package. Handling is excellent, but quality of ride suffers somewhat for it."
Anonymous, AZ (2010 Toyota Prius)"It's handling is mediocre compared to our Chevy Volt, feels a bit clumsy, but it is fine."
ROBERT B., NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius handles incredibly well. I love the small turning radius. It also has surprising pick-up. I keep it in Eco mode, but if I stomp on the gas it moves!"
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling is fine, acceleration could be perkier, even with the "boost" feature."
MICHAEL M., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"The electric motor's great acceleration."
P T., ON (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is just adequate. For better handling I put low profile aggressive tred pattern tires on which greatly improved handling. But it reduced 50 mpg to 44mpg."
RICHARD W., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"economy, maneuverability, quietness, interior comfort"
JUDY M., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling is marginal"
Anonymous, MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"I would buy it again if the brakes were not a concern. They work great on wet or dry smooth pavement but are inconsistent over bumps, and work very poorly on snow or ice, especially if abs engages. I view this problem as a serious flaw, and try to avoid using this vehicle on winter roads."
JOHN C., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"I do not like the brakes....they don't catch if you are traveling across a bump in the road. I also don't like the handling in the mountains since it doesn't have lower gears for going down steep roads."
Anonymous, KS (2010 Toyota Prius)"I recently had to make an emergency avoidance at highway speeds and found the handling to be very good."
L C., AZ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Surprisingly lively"
CHRISTOPHER H., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Road noise a problem"
DONALD T., FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles very well, but acceleration is underwhelming as expected. I'm usually heavy with the gas and hence my only 40mpg average over 12 months. Also, this car doesn't like the heat of Sacramento. When I have the A/C on high, it gets pretty noticeable drops in mpgs and acceleration performance."
BROCK A., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I am putting this information here because I don't know if there is a place to enter elsewhere on this survey. The biggest problem with the car is visibility. Rear and side visibility is limited."
Anonymous, VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I love the way it turns on a dime! Acceleration is a bit slow, but it isn't a sports car."
JOYCE M., UT (2010 Toyota Prius)"My only complaint is the limited visibility on the right due to a wide bar attaching the windshield to the side window. Design problem for short people.."
ELSIE A., SC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration of this vehicle was surprisingly good. Handling was a little sketchy: it required constant small adjustments of the steering wheel while driving. I would have preferred rack-and-pinion."
Anonymous, NM (2010 Toyota Prius)"This car handles exceptionally badly on snow and ice. Handling in warmer weather, while not exciting, is fine."
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"It is sufficient for the need, gives good road feel."
Alan L., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"For a small car the acceleration is good, it seems to handle well, parking is pretty easy and when you back up the car "beeps" to let others know you are backing up."
Paul L., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Car accelerates and handles fine. Sometimes it tends to get pushed around in the wind. It is too low to the ground so have issues with curbs and Expensive bumpers. Can be noisy on the highway."
John C., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Accelerates fine and starts up after a traffic light with very minimal hesitation"
Anonymous, WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"OK for city driving, not great acceleration on highway"
Anonymous, DC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Using the Eco Boost feature, the Prius accelerates as well as most sports cars. Very smooth ride on all types of roads. Very quiet. Very responsive in turning."
Gina D., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Quality of vehicle and fuel economy are paramount in my decision to buy a car. Toyota meets both those criteria. The rear view is below average due to the horizontal bar in the rear window."
Anonymous, WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Comfort on long trips is a little poor especially for older or those with mobility issues."
Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very smooth with good handling, and the acceleration has always been adequate."
Ronald B., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"There are three modes for driving and the power mode provides plenty of speed off the line for traffic and climbs. The center of gravity due to the batteries over the rear axle provides for good handling. Turning radius is smaller than anticipated"
Douglas E., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling and driving are fine, don't expect a road hugging performance, but it is adequate for my driving."
Anonymous, VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Poor acceleration. Unstable feel, especially in winter. We use snow tires in winter, but my wife still refuses to drive the Prius during Minnesota winters."
Anonymous, MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius is a straight forward car: not a race car. I don't need a race car. I feel safe driving it because I don't drive by speed but by MPG. I drive more safely when I'm focused on MPG."
Tarik S., ME (2010 Toyota Prius)"Quiet and responsive"
Anonymous, OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Toyota Prius has been a great car - the only negative, and I'm not sure where to put this - is that it is very low to the ground so it bumps easily over any type of dip in the road and the rear view visibility is challenging"
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Drives and handles well. Very hard to gauge where the front of the vehicle is when parking. Also low in front so it catches curbs and concrete stops."
Anonymous, CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Accelerates like a small boat getting up on plane. handling mediocre."
Harold L., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"The driving in less responsive than I expected and the acceleration is mushy."
Anonymous, IN (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius allows you to drive in Eco mode for maximum fuel efficiency, which I do, despite very sluggish response to accelerator. I don't mind, but I know other people do. But you can always turn Eco mode off."
Anonymous, IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"mediocre acceleration is a trade off for good mileage"
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Reliability Fuel Consumption Handling Ride"
Anonymous, TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is prolly poorer than other compact vechicles but acceptable. Handling is only average"
Maureen O., GA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handles like a sports car. Very good acceleration for a 4 cylinder engine."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"I find that if you know the limitations of any vehicle, it should be driven accordingly. In congested areas, I occasionally engage the power mode and acceleration is adequate. Highway driving performance is very good. A slight increase in noise level when accelerating hard, but a very acceptable tradeoff for the excellent fuel economy."
Richard S., SC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Surprisingly agile"
Leo C., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Pkg V tuning/wheels make a noticeable improvement on handling compared to the other packages."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Nimble handling in traffic and easy to park"
Anonymous, IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"The handling has been very good, and especially like the small turning radius, which makes parking very easy. The acceleration is adequate for merging onto CA freeways."
Daniel B., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The 2010 Model V with the larger wheels and somewhat firmer suspension provide a real boost in drivability and control of the vehicle than other 2010 models. Additionally, the Performance button improves overall performance with minimal impact to fuel economy."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"More than acceptable"
Joseph F., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"There is an acceleration boost button very useful when entering highways and passing trucks."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"I like the hybrid responsiveness in being able to conserve energy and save on fuel consumption"
David H., VT (2010 Toyota Prius)"Does not accelerate quickly but handles quite well."
Charles J., VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"cruise control allows me to control speed even at low speeds which works well for me. Letting up pressure on the accelerator slows the prius faster than with mechanical transmissions. It uses less gas than any other car I have driven."
Carl H., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Its acceleration is rather stingy, but what do you expect for a car that delivers 48 mpg on average! And its blind spots (both sides) are quite annoying to an average-height driver."
Patrick L., MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"It reacts well."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Ease to maneuver in tight spaces, plenty of storage for traveling"
Jim K., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"When the car hits a pothole, there is a split second when it feels completely airborne/skidding/out of control. I think this is because of the traction control, which, in my experience, is quite the misnomer. Again, it's just for a split second but it is incredibly disconcerting every single time that it happens, which is not infrequent."
Kathleen D., PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is more than adequate for our needs. This is a "town car". That said there are still times we need to speed up and it has more than enough. It's handling is very good."
John M., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Car has good acceleration and handling. Not much roll."
Jeff G., VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Satisfactory acceleration and handling. Drive carefully to maximize fuel economy - no maximum acceleration, be light on the accelerator pedal."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Great car"
Joe G., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"I'm surprised at how much power it has when accelerating (due to the electric motor kicking in). I am very satisfied with it."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is adequate and responds well when pushed. Handling is good but response is quick. Just be careful until you get use to it."
Anonymous, VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"the gas savings"
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius is pretty slow and not very responsive to the gas pedal. It's the trade off for the great gas mileage"
Marshall N., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"When I go over a bump in the road (manhole cover, some imperfection on the road), the car does not respond to braking and instead speeds up."
Mona O., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"It's a great little car for just my wife and myself easy to drive & park. For the last 5 years we've been going to south Florida about 2600 miles round trip love the fuel mileage & ease of handling."
Ron M., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"The acceleration is slow."
Anonymous, NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Accelerating seems a little slow sometimes, but it handles very well."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"Excellent turning radius. Acceleration and handling are so-so. Bad is when you go over a bump with the brakes on. The car seems to fly. I.e. deceleration stops momentarily. It seems like loss of control of the vehicle."
H L., CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"acceleration is sluggish"
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Reliable, safe."
Anonymous, MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Drives fairly positively"
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"the POWER button gives an incredible boost of torque; great for those times when one must merge quickly into high-speed traffic. excellent feature."
Benjamin W., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is fine for what I need. Great car for city driving as nimble, easy to navigate tight spots."
Anonymous, TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"It's a little underpowered for accelerating on short on-ramps (of which we have a lot in Connecticut) Our main complaint is the very low underbody---it scrapes on even moderately-high curbs, and on sharp changes in road angle (e.g., a steep entrance to a driveway)."
M H., CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handles and accelerates (particularly in Power mode) like a sports sedan."
Karen N., NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"Good acceleration for a small car"
Robert S., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling curves at higher speeds is excellent. And I can pack a lot in it. It is a narrow station wagon."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"For a small engine I believe the acceleration in boost mode is more than adequate for normal driving and I believe emergency handling Even after all this time (2010) the ride is still very comfortable and stable."
Michael B., ON (2010 Toyota Prius)"The economy mode still provides pretty good acceleration and power, but the power mode is great to have when it's needed."
Joy C., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"With the stability control and the weight of batteries in the rear this is the best handling car I have ever driver on slippery icy roads"
Don H., AB (2010 Toyota Prius)"Same as the 2011 but gas mileage is not as good as the the newer model 2011, but still excellent ."
Kenneth G., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Adequate acceleration, handles very well"
Christine D., OH (2010 Toyota Prius)"Although acceleration is limited, it's good enough for me, and the ride is smooth."
Walter C., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very good acceleration for a car of that size / very responsive handling /"
W W., VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Slow and noisy"
Thorappadi V., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is adequate and handling is very good. Noise level is 3-4 dB higher than would be desirable."
Hartwell W., OR (2010 Toyota Prius)"handling with cruise control and automatic safety instruments."
William W., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius accelerates gently, but incredibly smoothly, so it’s very easy to drive in slow, stop and go driving, which is quite common where I live. As far as handling, it’s certainly not a sports car, but its handling has been adequate for our needs."
Bob H., PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Has better acceleration than I would have thought. The car is responsive and handles well. The aerodynamic angles of the car body make for some not-so-great visibility, especially for taller drivers (I’m 6’2‿)."
Anonymous, IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Ride is harsh and noisy. I would expect this from a race tuned suspension, but my Prius’ suspension is not race tuned. Not a great car for road trips. Traction and clearance is not great for anything not paced."
Frederick M., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"good acceleration, but a bit noisy and with tires worn fairly bumpy ride."
Richard S., TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"Excellent acceleration from stop and on highway. Handles very well."
Anonymous, WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handling is good except in ice/snow. It needs good snow tires and even then it is tricky in ice/snow. Poor visibility due to a lot of blind spots. Otherwise, a good car."
Anonymous, VA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Takes corners well. Enough acceleration to pass comfortably"
Christine S., PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"It isn't a race car,, it doesn't rocket from the starting line. I adjust my driving to the abilities of the car and try not to push it. It is incredibly stable on curves."
L M., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Surprisingly good handling and highway performance and comfort. Has plenty of power for hill climbing and passing. Very stable at highway speeds."
Gerald A., WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"poor visibility through rear windows"
Barbara C., TN (2010 Toyota Prius)"2nd best handling car I have ever owned. I don't drive aggressively but there is always extra margin, stopping cornering and acceleration when I need it."
Anonymous, WA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Doesn't have a very powerful acceleration. Doesn't take curves well at higher speeds."
Anonymous, MD (2010 Toyota Prius)"It has good low end torque from the electric motor, and the gas engine kicks in when more power is needed. We do not like the noisy CVT, though."
Anonymous, NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"This particular vehicle handles very well and has exceptional acceleration for passing. I’ve talked with other Prius owners Who have the same year car but don’t have the same experience."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very good"
Anonymous, OH (2010 Toyota Prius)"The Prius drives well, with plenty of acceleration. To use a CR word, it is "nimble." It is, however, noisy."
Susan D., TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"Reliability. For a small car it handles well. Road noise and engine noise loud when accelerating."
John L., NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"On a 1-10 scale,8 on acceleration,9 on handling"
Donnie L., TX (2010 Toyota Prius)"The emergency acceleration on the Prius is more than adequate in over-drive when you need it. But, of course, keep the foot out of the carburetor.to get the best mileage. I've changed many driving habits by glancing at the gas economy display. This feedback has retrained my impatient driving habits. The handling has NO problems at all. It has a tight turning radius, the steering & handling are very secure & predictable.."
William R., FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"It accelerates well, but if I hit a pothole, the brakes doe not work well. When I turn off the car, it still seems to move forward a little."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I like the power it has to accelerate for passing and handling even in snow."
Jim H., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Really have to step on the accelerator to accelerate from standing stop"
William K., NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration and handing are fine. The view out the back is restricted because of the design; that's my only complaint."
Nancy A., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles well"
Anonymous, MI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Performance is boring in ECO mode, fine in Performance mode...exactly what I expected when I bought it"
Anonymous, MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I am very happy (still) with this car, which I drive mostly on two-lane roads and highways. The only problem is that the front end is low, and I've knocked the guard underneath off several times. The steering is great."
Anonymous, NY (2010 Toyota Prius)"travel to calif. every year this prius is bullet proof no problems outside of normal wear always get over 50 mpg on trips best car I have ever owned .subaru forester a close second"
Edward C., ME (2010 Toyota Prius)"Despite the recall on the “insufficient brake feel‿, our car continues to lose braking power if you hit a substantial bump while applying the brakes. No one has been able to fix this issue and our vehicle was not even part of the recall, though the dealer “flashed the software‿ to try and fix it as if it was a recalled model."
Kari I., WI (2010 Toyota Prius)"Strong acceleration."
John P., NM (2010 Toyota Prius)"No problems - it handles well."
Anonymous, NC (2010 Toyota Prius)"I like having choice of Power button for added acceleration boost in traffic and on the highway."
Ned F., NJ (2010 Toyota Prius)"The steering and handling are both rather uninspiring being no more than adequate. Acceleration impresses by its absence as the initial impression from pressing the accelerator is simply to make the car groan more loudly. That said, traffic enforcement's eyes seem to just glide over the car and on to the next target. Driving a Prius is rather like driving a fridge - it's just an appliance."
Howard C., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very happy with power level. I’m not a heavy footed driver."
Robert P., MI (2010 Toyota Prius)"This car handles very well for a small vehicle and a highbred. When needed I use the power button for Exceller rating on to highways or when I need to pass. I am quite satisfied with the handling of this car."
Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very good for U turn."
Anonymous, PA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration: adequate - which is all I need Handling: poor - like a 1970's minivan Ride: poor Noise:poor We really like the economy and versatility, but the Prius needs to drive better."
Thomas R., MN (2010 Toyota Prius)"It handles and drives very well. It drives very well on snow and even though a large snowpile."
Ellen H., MA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Major concern re driving is poor rear visibility; car desperately needs a rear view camera as standard equipment. Acceleration is actually pretty good for a car with a 1.8 liter engine, due to the power added by the electric drive engines."
Anonymous, CT (2010 Toyota Prius)"weak acceleration was to be expected, but rides smoothly, predictably, and comfortably"
Stephen R., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handles well in all situations"
Anonymous, GA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Easy to drive"
Anonymous, FL (2010 Toyota Prius)"Handles like a dream. Turns on a dime. Acceleration a little sluggish. Good acceleration up hills."
Joyce M., UT (2010 Toyota Prius)"My level 5 Prius is nimble and responsive. It is fun to drive on mountain roads and cruises nicely on freeways. The faster steering ratio is nice unless I am tired - then it requires extra attention to stay centered in the lane. The low-profile, 17-inch OEM tires and original shocks were very harsh on rough pavement. I changed to Michelin tires - that was a significant upgrade. At 100,000 miles I installed Koni shocks - this was another significant improvement. Now I run the tires 3 PSI below recommended when not carrying a load. That is the last improvement and now the car is relatively comfortable - good enough. The car has a serious lack of driver feedback compared to my prior '97 BMW 535 with five-speed. Steering, throttle, brakes are all much more "subtle". The brakes are non-linear and irregular when coming to a stop. Engine RPM is decoupled from speed so speed control on the highway requires a lot of attention to avoid surprises. I use the active radar cruise control a lot, even in pretty heavy traffic - it is a good feature for this car. I have had one weird experience with the brakes. Coming down a long, steep grade in the Rockies the front brakes started a substantial shimmy that got worse with brake application and lasted for a couple minutes. This has not reoccurred and the dealer was not interested. The brake disks at 100,000 miles are barely worn (~0.001") and the pads are still at about 2/3 original thickness, so it is not a wear issue."
Blaine R., CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"I am comfortable with acceleration and handling. The car can accelerate when needed, and gives me no trouble in turns or stops."
Anonymous, CA (2010 Toyota Prius)"Very rapid acceleration - much greater than I expected for an electric vehicle!"
Robert M., CO (2010 Toyota Prius)"Poor acceleration, but understandable because the car is a hybrid."
Terry M., NB (2010 Toyota Prius)"The acceleration is not that great, but that is not surprising since we are normally driving in economy mode. The Prius handles well in most conditions, but it is a pretty light vehicle and is not so good on snowy streets. Great handling when dry or in rainy conditions."
John H., IL (2010 Toyota Prius)"-Like the surprisingly good acceleration from a standstill, especially combined with very high gas mileage. -Dislike driving in heavy traffic, mainly due to poor visibility in the right rear blind spot."
Jerome B., AR (2010 Toyota Prius)"My Prius give me the choice of two different acceleration settings. One, the energy saver setting, forces a gradual acceleration. The other accelerates immediately when I push the pedal down. This means I can have the best of both worlds. (Although I almost exclusively use the energy saver setting, even that produces much better/faster acceleration than my previous vehicle.)"
Anonymous, WI (2010 Toyota Prius)
"Great mileage but plenty of pep. Drives like a gocart in it handling b"
