Includes acceleration and handling
What Owners Say
"Surprise! The Prius is a very capable driver, and very easy to get acquainted with. Sure... what is said about the engine noise at acceleration is true, but it moves respectfully well and has quick response and excellent torque when starting from a stopped position. It might even win many 0 to 15 mph races. Ride and handling feels secure with its low center of gravity."
Jesse S., NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"Has a power assist button that acts like taking the car out of an overdrive thus giving it a serious amount of acceleration."
Richard C., CO (2013 Toyota Prius)"Great acceleration & handling. NO complaints."
Darlene M., SC (2013 Toyota Prius)"It has adequate acceleration and decent handling. It's not a sports car, and I'm okay with that."
Halyn R., MN (2013 Toyota Prius)"The acceleration is is just adequate . You most really plan for merging on to an interstate highway. This is the one thing I wish Toyota would improve the car handles very well I like driving it a lot."
Gary H., PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Wish it was a little quicker."
Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"very pleased with the acceleration and handling given how small the engine is."
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Drives very good, handles good on WV roads."
Anonymous, WV (2013 Toyota Prius)"Drive is smooth and quiet, but acceleration is slow and sluggish.Handles well."
Anonymous, TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"We know its built for mileage, but there is no acceleration and the handling on curves is poor, especially on wet surfaces."
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"The Prius is zippy but is not a standout when it comes to being sporty. The Prius does have the best CVT and engine start/stop I've ever driven. The transition from electric to gas is near seamless. Toyota, in my option, makes some of the best drive-trains in the business."
Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Prius)"For the excellent gas mileage the Prius drives wie respectable acceleration and very reasonable handling!"
Willam J., NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"The ability to switch between eco and power modes of driving really allows me to conserve fuel while still having good, on demand power for situations requiring aggressive acceleration, like quick mergers into freeway traffic"
Anonymous, OK (2013 Toyota Prius)"I followed my brother last fall when we drove from Pennsylvania to northern Vermont. He noticed I was able to keep up and change lanes and pass as well as he could in his Honda Pilot."
Gail C., GA (2013 Toyota Prius)"For a hybrid does okay at acceleration"
David L., NY (2013 Toyota Prius)"Very good handling and turning. Adequate acceleration."
Patrick C., TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"We drive 100% of the time in the ECO mode which diminishes acceleration. Handling is modest but stable."
Anonymous, SC (2013 Toyota Prius)"ok with us it is a hybrid.."
Frank M., NH (2013 Toyota Prius)"Sometimes during the first half-mile of driving the vehicle is a bit hesitant to go up a small hill with a decent incline. Usually a few minutes later it takes similar hills just fine."
Daniel R., VA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Hybrid display is excellent for adjusting behavior to maximize fuel economy (and nicer ride)"
Jeff D., WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"good driveability especially for commuting."
Anonymous, MD (2013 Toyota Prius)"already commented"
Anonymous, HI (2013 Toyota Prius)"It accelerates well, the cruise control holds its speed both uphill and down and is easy to operate"
Richard G., ME (2013 Toyota Prius)"I bought the car used as an alternative to purchasing a new or newer Prius. I like the Hubris function. The drive is fine. My priority was to reduce gas use."
Anonymous, BC (2013 Toyota Prius)"It accelerates very well."
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Amazing handling and acceleration for its drive train. Only compliant is the road noise. For about 20 bucks per vehicle they could have resolved it. The dealer tells us it's the most common compliant they hear."
Anonymous, WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"It has always had all the power I need, even driving in the mountains with the AC on. There has never been a time when I wish it handled better."
Terrence R., MD (2013 Toyota Prius)"Because I am short I can not tell where The front or back is when I am driving/parking. I do not have this problem with my daughters 2013 V Prius."
Jean P., ME (2013 Toyota Prius)"good"
David S., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"Good acceleration."
Frank Z., MN (2013 Toyota Prius)"Standard slow acceleration but sturdy handling"
Anonymous, IA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Middle of the road handling and acceleration but better than previous models"
Anonymous, HI (2013 Toyota Prius)"The acceleration is acceptable. The car handles the road well. A bit of road noise."
Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"acceleration ok. handling very good"
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"I was worried that this car would not accelerate as fast as non-hybrids. The worry was for nothing."
Paul L., NJ (2013 Toyota Prius)"Handling is spot-on, steady and steering is tight without a lot of play."
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"The Prius has all the power and acceleration that I need. I feel extremely safe driving it."
Anonymous, MI (2013 Toyota Prius)"My main concern is the blind spots on either side of the car when you want to change lanes."
Anonymous, NY (2013 Toyota Prius)"acceleration is not spectacular . could be better"
Anonymous, MO (2013 Toyota Prius)"Better acceleration than previous 2009 model. I'm not an aggressive accelerator. Mostly used for city driving."
B R., OH (2013 Toyota Prius)"Lots of road noise not a very smooth ride"
Gary H., CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"The Prius has great acceleration and handling in both city and highway driving."
Leann H., TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"I wish it had a little more responsive pick-up in speed when I am trying to pass someone."
Anonymous, MA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Excellent all around experience"
David M., ON (2013 Toyota Prius)"no head jerk acceleration here; the car loves to go slow and to coast, resulting in good milage"
Marian V., KS (2013 Toyota Prius)"Satisfied with its handling, except its turning radius. Been driving for 60 yesrs, great driving record. When turning righr, I have damaged the right rear tire , requiring replacements! What I thought would have been a good feature , has proven costly and potentially dangerous, not the driver the turning! Others who have driven my car reported hitting a curb as well on turning right!"
Anonymous, MA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Surprisingly quick acceleration; handles very well"
Jason P., NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"My Prius has great acceleration which I didn't initially expect from a Hybrid or from an engine this size."
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration and handling are both adequate."
Mike B., KS (2013 Toyota Prius)"The noise outside the car is annoying."
Roberta S., CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"The car has plenty of power if needed but also keeps me driving efficiently most of the time."
Anonymous, CO (2013 Toyota Prius)"It's a great road car, as well as a good town car. Handles well. Accelerates quickly as I need. Downshifting works well downhill, and also when needing to slow down. I always drive in regular mode."
Anonymous, IA (2013 Toyota Prius)"The steering wanders a bit compared to our Honda civic."
John D., VA (2013 Toyota Prius)"We like ability to select power mode when needing it on hills, etc. I like the break feature when starting on hills. We didn't buy this car for its performance or for road trips so that isn't in the equation much."
Anonymous, WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"My cruise control. I use it all the time even if the speed limit is 25 or 35. When using it I disengage it if I see ahead of time that I need to come to a stop. I only apply my brakes when it is necessary. As of today I have never had a break job on this Prius. I previously owned another and owned it for 8 years with approximately 116000 and again never had a brake job. Also get better gas MPG by using my cruise."
Jo-Ann P., SC (2013 Toyota Prius)"I get quick acceleration and am always amazed at the ease of the turning radius."
Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"I prefer gas saving mode but like the idea if I want to I can switch to more powerful mode. It drives great, no complaints."
Merna M., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"It drives like a bus. Really wish it would turn better. It does accelerate ok to get on to the interstate and things though."
Anonymous, OK (2013 Toyota Prius)"A bit slow acceleration for my tastes, but that's a plus for its purpose -- my daughter's car."
Stephen G., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"The handling is very middling, adequate but not at all "engaging.""
Anonymous, SC (2013 Toyota Prius)"Decent acceleration, can pull into traffic without issues. Merging onto interstate is easy. Handles very well even on mountain roads."
F F., NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"Somewhat sluggish acceleration typical of a Prius, but the really good dash readouts provide the driver with the information necessary to balance the current acceleration needs with energy efficiency (the dash display represents, in my mind, an interesting "gamification" of driving). Good cornering, great braking, and a nice view of both the road ahead and behind."
Candace M., WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"low cost operation, great mileage."
Emile P., ON (2013 Toyota Prius)"Smooth handling and good acceleration even in eco mode; excellent gas mileage (50+ mpg consistently)"
Anonymous, IN (2013 Toyota Prius)"It took awhile to get use to the slow starts with the accelerator when it's in Economy mode."
Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Prius)"I did already"
Anonymous, CT (2013 Toyota Prius)"This is a plug-in Prius, which means that one gets 999 mpg for the electric miles, which averaged with the gas engine's 50+ mpg results in as much as tanks that get 80 mpg after repeated charges per tank. Plug-ins are the way to go."
Steve K., ME (2013 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is better than expected and the mileage is great without having to drive carefully to stay out of the gas pedal"
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"When you put it in sport mode you accelerate quickly."
Michael Z., OH (2013 Toyota Prius)"Drives is very solid corners very well acceleration is slugish unless you push it hard and then the mileage goes down."
George C., FL (2013 Toyota Prius)"acceleration is surprising for 1.5 l engine, smooth steering and ride, great turning radius"
Anonymous, IN (2013 Toyota Prius)"Quick acceleration and confident handling."
Thomas M., TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"Wonderful styling, performance and fuel economy."
MARK K., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"By use of in-dash feedback I learned the fuel penalty for accelerating between red lights. Basically the fuel burned goes to forward momentum, which is converted to heat in the brake pads."
Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Prius)"the Prius has an amazing acceleration even if you don't use the special "button" for increased acceleration."
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"Not so much how it drives but it is not as easy to see out the back as I would like. Car does not have a back up camera. That might improve confidence in rear view."
Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"The Prius handles very well with plenty of power. It is a very comfortable car on th road in all areas."
Anonymous, IL (2013 Toyota Prius)"poor acceleration especially on hills"
Anonymous, KS (2013 Toyota Prius)"The tires had to pe replaced after 22,000 as they are part of the reason for the lower mpg. We were unaware of this when we lesed the car and found it disappointing as we have always gotten 50,000 miles from our tires. We also are unable to disengage the traction control when we want to power out of a minor slippage instance. The power button is misleading. And the controls for the radio and other sources of the sound system seem very unnatural."
P W., OH (2013 Toyota Prius)"Drives well in general except when parking and backing up. Limited view in rear and hard to maneuver into parking spots."
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"It is very hard to see out when backing up."
Anonymous, GA (2013 Toyota Prius)"As my old Prius (2010), hit a bump with the brakes on, and they lock up temporarily, just enough to be scary at times."
DEE O., MD (2013 Toyota Prius)"Acceleration is adequate but not terribly sprightly. Rear view visibility is somewhat poorer than my other car (a 2000 Honda Accord), and sometimes makes lane shifting a bit anxiety producing."
DONALD E., WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"For long trips, the seat is a little hard."
Anonymous, TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"Good Milage, reliability Poor comfort, noise, info center on dashboard unreadable in sunlight"
ROBERT A., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"Handling-Doesn't hold the road"
Anonymous, NJ (2013 Toyota Prius)"It accelerates quickly, has plenty of power and has a very smooth, comfortable ride."
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"I am an observant cautious driver and it suits me, it is not as zippy or responsive as my previous Honda Civic but I bought a second Prius anyway."
HOLLY H., MD (2013 Toyota Prius)"There is still a problem with braking on a washboard road"
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Of course, it does have a bit less acceleration than most cars, but once you're used to it, it's not a big deal. It helps get in the habit of having a good following distance behind the cars (since most people accelerate away from you out of stop lights) so I feel my driving became safer in this vehicle. The in-dash indicator for how much power you're using also helps to train you to get the most MPG out of the car too. I explain it to friends as: people might pass me so they can get to the next"
Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Prius)"Accelerarion and handling are great."
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"I was really surprised at the Prius' ability to accelerate fast!"
LINDA M., TN (2013 Toyota Prius)"Like handling and power"
STEVE G., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"The visibility around me isn't nearly as good on the Prius as it was on my previous car (1991 Honda Accord LX). I get very nervous backing out of parking spaces because it's not possible to see well enough to keep track of all the pedestrians that may be walking past (without watching for moving cars)."
Anonymous, CA (2013 Toyota Prius)"I had civic hybrid with very poor acceleration. The Prius is so much better. I can merge into traffic much easier."
CURTIS S., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"It's rear-view blind spots are pretty bad. That is really the only thing I dislike about this car."
PHILLIP D., TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"Well constructed and engineered car. Reading the screen for maps etc could be improved as its angle regularly is unreadable because of light reflection"
PETER M., NY (2013 Toyota Prius)"Seat uncomfortable"
Anonymous, NV (2013 Toyota Prius)"Not really a driver's car. More of a gadget for getting good gas mileage."
Anonymous, WA (2013 Toyota Prius)"AWD would be a really good addition. Traction is a weakness in the winter. Even with real good tires"
MARTIN C., QC (2013 Toyota Prius)"It is surprisingly durable and drives quite well. Can function as a type of work horse."
Anonymous, IL (2013 Toyota Prius)"vision from inside the car especially when backing out of a parking spot"
FRED S., VA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Easy handling, good turning radius"
Anonymous, NC (2013 Toyota Prius)"I would prefer more accelation, even at the expense of some mileage. The ride is good, and I like the slightly more headroom/total height"
LEON S., KY (2013 Toyota Prius)"Enough acceleration for my needs.handling is fine.....my biggest problem is with the cruise control....could be more accurate."
DENNIS O., TX (2013 Toyota Prius)"Great car and value"

STEPHEN C., PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"rylablelity great mph"
DAVID S., AZ (2013 Toyota Prius)"Gas economy"
LEONARDO B., VA (2013 Toyota Prius)"Sometimes while idling, the vehicle seems to lurch forward, albeit briefly, when the regular motor flips on"
STEVE G., NY (2013 Toyota Prius)"Poor traction in snow, but improved from my 2008 Prius"
Anonymous, PA (2013 Toyota Prius)"When you "hit the gas" the electric motor kicks in with a lot of torque!! Fun!"
JAMES M., WA (2013 Toyota Prius)
"Acceleration is decent, not outstanding, but it's not a sports car. Handling is mushy and feels vague."
Eric P., VT (2013 Toyota Prius)
