Dyson V8 Absolute

    Dyson V8 Absolute

This is one of the most expensive stick vacuums but also one of the best CR has ever tested. It receives top marks for carpet, edge cleaning, noise and pet hair; quickly converts to a hand vac; does a good job controlling the release of fine dust particles; and easily empties in one step.

      iRobot Roomba 890

This self-operating vac aces CR’s tests, earning it recommended status. It circles around objects and senses debris, adapts to different floor surfaces for effective cleaning, avoids getting caught on tricky spots like rug tassels, maneuvers under furniture, and uses “cliff” sensors to avoid stairs.

      Nikon D7500 w/ AF-S 50mm

        Nikon D7500 w/ AF-S 50mm

The Nikon D7500 DSLR is a great choice for the serious amateur photographer. Its non-zoom 50mm lens isn’t particularly versatile but its image quality is superb. The moderate telephoto focal length and f/1.8 maximum aperture make it a top choice for portraits. The Nikon lacks image stabilization but ergonomics of the hefty, but easily grippable body are so good that you don’t have to worry about blurry shots. The D7500 also powered up instantly, a big plus when shooting action, and our testers were impressed by the bright, sharp viewfinder, as well as the high quality stereo sound when shooting video.

        Denon Heos 7 HS2
        Denon Heos 7 HS2

          Denon Heos 7 HS2

Featuring angular styling that makes it look a bit like a designer handbag from Milan, the Heos 7 HS2 is a worthy competitor to the well-regarded Sonos Play:5. Our testers liked the way the Denon handles treble, reproducing the shimmer from cymbals and other high-pitched instruments. The Denon's midrange is more true to life than most of its competitors. They also complimented its deep bass, although the lows might be a little too prominent. The latest HS2 version of the Heos 7 truly shines in versatility. It features analog inputs, a headphone jack, a USB port, and, unlike the Sonos,  Bluetooth for easy pairing with a smartphone.

            Lenovo Yoga 720-15IKB

This CR-recommended 15.6-inch laptop is a top performer. It has enough power to handle video editing and midrange gaming, a full-sized keyboard, and a touch screen that flips into stand-up easel-like mode or a tablet configuration. The battery lasted 12.75 hours in CR testing.

              Apple Watch Series 4 (40mm)...

This smartwatch receives top marks for both heart-rate tracking and step counting. New features include the ability to determine whether a user has fallen and call for help if necessary. The watch also has a new sensor that will eventually let you take your own electrocardiogram. It also boasts a bigger screen that’s easier to read and even view photos on. This version also comes with cellular connectivity, letting you leave your phone behind and still take and make calls. The downside? You’ll need to charge it every night.

              Apple iPad Mini 4 (128GB)

                Apple iPad Mini 4 (128GB)

This latest version of Apple’s smallest iPad was introduced in 2015, but it’s still the company’s most affordable and portable tablet. It's an excellent performer, capable of running demanding graphic apps. Lightweight at 0.7 pounds, the Mini 4’s bright 7.9-inch screen display is among the most realistic in terms of color that CR testers have seen on a tablet.

                    Swiss Diamond Reinforced #6010

This nonstick cast-aluminum set earns the highest rating in CR's testing. Even after 2,000 strokes of steel wool on the nonstick coating, fried eggs slid off easily. The set includes 8- and 9-inch frying pans, 1.4- and 2.2-quart saucepans, a 3.2-quart sauté pan, an 8.5-quart stockpot, and glass lids. It comes with a lifetime warranty.

DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima One Espresso Maker EN500BW/W
                    DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima One...

                      DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima One...

Unapologetically playful (it’s almost all plastic), this chunky coffee maker makes a decent cup for a pod brewer. (Most pod brewers receive middling scores for taste.) Using Nespresso capsules, it brews coffee and espresso, as well as cappuccinos and lattes, with the help of a built-in milk frother. DeLonghi brewers receive an Excellent rating for owner satisfaction in our surveys, so you can expect an enjoyable experience. This machine in particular does well in most of our tests, but it falls a bit short when it comes to brewing range, which judges a machine’s ability to brew coffee of varying strengths. With that said, it’s important to note that this machine is pricey; you’re paying for its ability to brew more than just a cup of coffee.

                        KitchenAid Professional 6500...

From the manufacturer that invented the device, the 10-speed KitchenAid Professional 6500 Design Series stand mixer will take care of all your baking needs. The stylish machine is superb at whipping cream and has no trouble folding chocolate chips into stiff cookie dough or kneading bread dough. Like other KitchenAid mixers, it can accommodate a variety of helpful accessories, including a meat grinder and pasta press—so it’s good for a lot more than dough.

                        Vitamix 7500

                          Vitamix 7500

We expect this model to perform similarly to the tested Vitamix Professional Series 750, although it may differ in price and features. Vitamix's 8-cup blender earns an Excellent rating in our icy-drinks tests, meaning it will also turn out superb smoothies. This blender is noisy—most we test are. Vitamix says this model can make hot soups, a claim we tested, and the result was smooth, hot soup in about 5 minutes. Vitamix is the only full-sized blender brand that rates Excellent for predicted reliability, and Vitamix owners seem to love their blenders.

This is two washers in one, consisting of a mini top-loader (ideal for lightly soiled and delicate items) atop a full-sized front-loader—and you can use them simultaneously. The front-loader does an excellent job cleaning and is unusually gentle on fabrics. Water and energy efficiency are excellent. It pings your phone via WiFi when a cycle is done.

                              Bodyguard E-40

A top-rated elliptical, the Bodyguard is a very basic design more akin to an indoor cycle or spin bike than to traditional ellipticals. It's space-efficient at 62 inches in length. The battery-powered display features three exercise programs, and the manually controlled brake offers a variety of resistance levels.
