Robotic Vacuum
Samsung POWERbot R7065 VR2AM7065WS/AA
Samsung POWERbot R7065 VR2AM7065WS/AA

    Samsung POWERbot R7065 VR2AM7065WS/AA

CR’s take: The sleek Samsung Powerbot earns high marks, including an Excellent rating for bare floors. It’s also superb at cleaning carpet. A couple of key design details separate it from the competition, such as its ability to clean along walls: It’s equipped with a shutter brush that extends down to sweep up dirt only when it nears a wall—an improvement over side brushes that are out at all times and can scatter debris. As for power, the Samsung Powerbot is able to pick up fine grains of sand and embedded pet hair from carpets. (You have to manually clean the pet hair from the brush.) Bottom line: You can spend a lot more on a robovac and not get this level of performance.

    Bissell Air Ram 1984

      Bissell Air Ram 1984

CR’s take: For an affordable price you get a top-notch and self-standing cordless stick vacuum. The Bissell Air Ram 1984 scores an Excellent rating on our carpet cleaning test and is just as good at bare floors. It has the longest run time among the cordless vacuums in our labs, with a charge that lasts 47 minutes. Even though it’s a basic model, the Bissell Air Ram has held its place near the top of our ratings for some time. But unlike other stick vacs, it doesn’t convert to a hand vacuum or come with any accessories.

        Nespresso  Pixie Espresso Maker in...

CR’s take: If you’re looking for a Nespresso pod coffee maker that uses OriginalLine capsules, check out the Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker in Aluminum EN125S. It earns high marks for first-cup speed, repeat-cup speed, and cup-size consistency. And it earns a rating of Very Good for brewing range, which means you have plenty of control over the strength of your brew. The Pixie has a removable water reservoir, a height-adjustable drip tray, and an adjustable brew temperature feature. It’s simple to use, and it can brew three types of coffee—lungo (an Italian coffee), espresso, and ristretto (a more concentrated espresso)—depending on the capsules you buy.

Ninja with DUO Auto-iQ BL642 Personal

CR’s take: The Ninja BL642 is a 1,500-watt blender with a 9-cup plastic container and a removable blade. Added bonus? It comes with additional 18-, 24-, and 32-ounce cups. This Ninja earns an Excellent rating for making smoothies and has no trouble crushing ice. And it’ll turn out decent soups—as long as you don’t blend ingredients while they’re hot. Plus, you don’t have to pay extra for personal-sized cups.

            Le Creuset Signature Dutch Oven

CR’s take: The 5.5-quart Le Creuset Signature tops our ratings in this category. It earns an Excellent rating in our browning tests, the only Dutch oven to do so, and is a cinch to clean. It weighs 12 pounds, less than most, and has an 8-inch cooking diameter. The loop handles are nice and wide.

              KitchenAid Professional 6500...

CR’s take: The KitchenAid Professional 6500 Design Series is our top-rated stand mixer and aces our three key tests—mixing, kneading, and whipping. Two features distinguish it from the other mixers in our tests: a glass bowl and a bowl-lift mechanism that raises and lowers the bowl to engage the beaters rather than tilting the power head up and down. The 10-speed mixer comes with a 6-quart bowl, flat beater, dough hook, and wire whisk. Like all KitchenAids, you can use it with all KitchenAid power attachments. This model comes in four colors, including Medallion Silver and a snazzy Candy Apple Red.

                All-Clad c4 Copper C4110

CR’s take: All-Clad is a familiar brand to most cooks. The 10-inch All-Clad c4 Copper C4110 is lined with stainless steel, and the manufacturer claims it’s oven-safe up to 600° F. It earns a Very Good rating in our cooking-evenness test and rates Good, which is average, at sautéing (same as the other copper pans we tested). We found that the handle was not as sturdy as the handles on our other top performers, but it stays cool to the touch when you’re cooking. At 3 pounds, it’s the lightest of all the copper pans in our tests—and it’s one of the least expensive.

                Blueair Classic 605
                Blueair Classic 605

                  Blueair Classic 605

CR’s take: Man, can this machine clear a room. It’s one of only two models (along with the Blueair 211+) that scores Excellent for particle removal at both the high- and low-speed settings. It runs whisper-quiet at low speeds, but it’s noisy on high speed. It’ll clean the air quickly, but you won’t want to be in the room while it does, especially if you’re having a conversation or watching TV. Of course, you pay for all that performance. It’s one of the most expensive air purifiers in our ratings, and that’s just the initial cost; filter replacements and energy use will set you back around $225 per year. The machine weighs a hefty 30 pounds but has casters that make it easy to cart from room to room. Its claimed capacity is a room of 775 square feet.

                    Samsung FlexWash WV60M9900AV

CR’s take: This Samsung is two washers in one, consisting of a mini top-loader (ideal for lightly soiled and delicate items) atop a full-sized front-loader—and you can use them simultaneously. The front-loader does an excellent job cleaning and is unusually gentle on fabrics. Water and energy efficiency are excellent. It pings your phone via WiFi when a cycle is done.

CR’s take: The Precor TRM 243 may come with a hefty price tag, but with an Excellent rating for user safety, great ergonomics, and a wide range of exercising options, it’s worth the money. Plus, it comes with custom programs that allow users to create and save workout profiles.

                        Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700

CR’s take: The Bose Smart Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are the long-awaited successor to the company’s flagship QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones, and the two models are almost identical in performance: Both deliver superb sound quality and noise cancellation. However, the Bose 700 earphones have a much slimmer profile when folded up, and they have a few updated elements, including more integration with digital assistants, touch controls, and sensors for Bose’s “augmented reality” apps. Bose has kept some of the best-loved features from its older models as well, such as adjustable levels of noise cancellation, a monitoring mode to let in sound from your environment, and an advertised 20-hour battery life.

CR’s take: The 55-inch 2019 LG OLED55C9PUA earns top scores for HD and UHD picture quality and does great when it comes to HDR, or high dynamic range, performance. (LG 4K TVs support several HDR formats used by content creators: HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and Advanced HDR by Technicolor.) Like all OLED TVs, this model has an almost unlimited viewing angle, and the sound is also top-notch, among the best we’ve tested. LG’s updated smart TV platform includes its own voice-enabled ThinQ artificial intelligence platform as well as built-in support for the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa digital voice assistants.

                            Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch with...

CR’s take: Thanks in large part to a quad-core processor, Apple’s latest MacBook Pro ranks among the fastest laptops we’ve tested. Coupled with a 512-gigabyte solid-state drive and 8 gigabytes of memory, the eighth-generation Intel Core i5 processor has enough oomph to breeze through even demanding jobs such as video editing. In our tests the battery lasted 16 hours while browsing the web and a little more than 7 hours while watching a 4K video. In other words, it should run through a full day of work, no problem.

                              Devialet New Phantom

CR’s take: Though there’s much difference of opinion about the Phantom’s funky egglike design and avant-garde aesthetics, when it comes to sound quality, the Devialet gets very good grades: Our testers were impressed by the Phantom’s solid and very deep bass, and the speaker also did a great job of rendering voices. According to our experts, its biggest strength was the clarity of the midrange; you can easily hear the contrast between, say, Johnny Cash’s growling baritone and the sweet harmonies of the backup singers on his classic “Ring of Fire.” The French company also makes state-of-the-art $35,000 amplifiers, so the Phantom is its attempt to bring the company’s expertise into a price range that’s not just the province of super-rich audiophiles.

                                Apple Watch Series 5 (40mm)...

CR’s take: Apple’s Series 5 watches get top ratings from our testers for basics such as ease of use, step counting, and heart rate tracking. They offer built-in GPS for tracking distance workouts and oodles of apps to help you customize your device. Pay for the version with cellular service and you can field calls and stream music from your favorite app—all without lugging your smartphone. The watch’s microphone will let you dictate replies to text messages, as well as summon Apple’s digital assistant, Siri.

                                  Nikon D7500 w/ AF-S 50mm

CR’s take: The Nikon D7500 DSLR is a great choice for the serious amateur photographer. Its nonzoom 50mm lens isn’t particularly versatile, but its image quality is superb. The moderate telephoto focal length and f/1.8 maximum aperture make it a top choice for portraits. The Nikon lacks image stabilization, but the ergonomics of the hefty, but easily grippable, body are so good that you don’t have to worry about blurry shots. The D7500 also powered up instantly, a big plus when shooting action, and our testers were impressed by the bright, sharp viewfinder, as well as the high-quality stereo sound when shooting video.

                                    Apple iPad Pro 11 (4G, 64GB) - 2018

CR’s take: One of our highest-scoring tablets, the iPad Pro is a top-tier machine for power users. Thanks to a design with slim bezels and no Home button, it tucks an 11-inch screen into a body barely larger than a base iPad with a 9.7-inch screen. The battery life is also impressive. The iPad Pro provides 12.5 hours of web-browsing and 15.6 hours of movie playback. Thanks to a switch from Lightning to USB-C charging, the iPad Pro can also juice up faster than earlier models—our testers found that 30 minutes of charge in a partially drained iPad Pro added 3.8 hours of battery life.
