Recall notice

In September 2017, this bike helmet along with the similar Street Lite model were recalled due to the chin strap buckle failing to meet current federal safety standards. This poses a risk of head injury. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmets and return them to Pro-Tec for a full refund. If you do not have access to another helmet and need to ride your bike, it's better to use this helmet rather than no helmet, but replace it as soon as possible. CR's Take

This Pro-Tec City Lite helmet failed a routine bike helmet safety test inside Consumer Reports’ labs—The chin straps and buckle that should keep the helmet securely on your head in the event of an accident—failed to function properly in three out of the four helmets tested. In one case, the buckle broke; in two others, a strap broke loose from the body of the helmet simulating what might happen during an accident.

In September 2017, Pro-Tec recalled the City Lite and the similar Street Lite helmets.

About

The Pro-tec City Lite is part of the Bike Helmets test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Bike Helmet models like the City Lite are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Impact absorption: The ability of a helmet to absorb impact forces in a crash, which reduces the rate of deceleration experienced by the head. Based on laboratory impact testing.

Ventilation: The evaluation of how well air flowing through the helmet provides cooling during rides. Based on actual usage and expert judgement.

Fit adjustments: The evaluation of the features and versatility of the retention system when adjusting the fit of the helmet. Based on expert judgment.
