    Mattresses Lab

We test thousands of products in 63 labs at our headquarters.

Data is the basis for almost all the work that Consumer Reports does—ensuring that our state-of-the-art tests and reliability surveys reflect how consumers actually use products.

    Inside the labs

CR analyzes data from about 20 tests to help determine the score for each mattress.

Join Chris Regan, who oversees CR's mattress testing, for a demonstration of some of the tests that we perform on mattresses.

    Did you know?

CR staff shoppers buy every product we use as a test sample from retail stores, helping maintain our objectivity and independence.

    Durability

    Durability

Our analysis of how well a mattress maintains its original shape, height, firmness, and side/back sleeping support after eight years of simulated use.
    Stabilization

    Stabilization

A measure of how much vibration is transmitted across the mattress; for memory- and latex-foam mattresses, higher scores indicate ease of changing sleep position.

Choosing a comfortable mattress is subjective

What can feel supportive to you could be someone else's worst nightmare. CR's mattress expert shares important considerations to help you narrow down your choices.
