Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling over 186,000 Ram 1500 pickup trucks with adjustable pedals that may get stuck on all-weather floor mats while driving. FCA also issued a separate recall for over 43,000 floor mats for the same reason.

In a statement, FCA said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this problem. The automaker issued the recall after a driver reported a floor mat that interfered with the accelerator pedal while driving. That driver was able to stop the vehicle.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their local Ram dealer, who will be able to modify a vehicle’s floor mats if necessary until replacement floor mats are available.

If drivers encounter a stuck accelerator pedal in one of the recalled Ram trucks or any other vehicle, they should depress the brake pedal and not release it until the vehicle stops. Like most new vehicles, these Ram trucks are equipped with brake-throttle override technology that prevents sudden acceleration by overriding a vehicle’s throttle if a driver slams on the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The technology is not mandatory but became standard equipment on most new vehicles after sudden acceleration incidents like those reported by Toyota owners more than a decade ago.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 186,233 Ram 1500 pickup trucks from the 2019 and 2020 model years.

The problem: The truck’s pedals may interfere with all-weather floor mats, which could cause pedals to get stuck.

The fix: Dealers will modify or replace the vehicle’s floor mats.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may call FCA at 800-853-1403.

NHTSA campaign number: The vehicle recall is 20V513. The floor mat recall is 20E060.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
