Ford and Lincoln Recall Over a Million Vehicles to Fix Backup Cameras
The automaker says a software update should keep the backup cameras from freezing or not displaying an image
Ford and Lincoln are recalling more vehicles with faulty backup cameras because a software error might make them show a blank, frozen, or distorted image.
The recalled vehicles are:

- • 2021-2024 Ford F-150 pickup trucks
- • 2021-2024 Ford Edge SUVs
- • 2023-2024 Ford Escape SUVs
- • 2022-2024 Ford Expedition SUVs
- • 2021-2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E EVs
- • 2024 Ford Ranger pickup trucks
- • 2024 Ford Mustang coupes and convertibles
- • 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs
- • 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator SUVs
- • 2023-2024 Lincoln Corsair SUVs
- • 2022-2025 Ford Transit vans
- • 2023-2024 Ford F-250, F-350, F-40, and F-600 HD and commercial trucks
Ford Backup Camera Recall Details
The problem: A problem with the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software on vehicles equipped with versions 1.7 through 1.9 of Ford’s SYNC4 software may cause the backup camera to not display properly.
The fix: Ford and Lincoln dealerships will update SYNC4 software free of charge.
