This iteration of the Silverado is considerably improved over the previous model. It has a fairly comfortable ride along with easy access and cargo loading. A rack-and-pinion setup improved steering feel and response. Interior quality was also improved and the payload rating is generous. We appreciate the selectable full-time 4WD and standard stability control (optional on non-crew-cab versions) on the 1500.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"When this model of Silverado was configured, they sure got everything right. The 6.0 engine will outrun anything on the highway. It will not even hesitate carrying a full load in the 8' bed up a hill. It is a large truck so handling is for the skilled. Having been a cross country tractor-trailer driver, no problem for me. Love the truck and would buy it again."

Carol C., MD (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Acceleration is great. Handles almost as good as a car"

Anonymous, ME (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Acceleration is great. Installed aftermarket exhaust break. Going down steep hills in CO was not a problem."

David G., CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The 6.0 v8 has gobs of power but with a delay when punching the accelerator (e.g. When merging onto the freeway). Also it pulls a tandem axle 7700 lb. trailer very well. The trailer setting on the gear shift /transmission is nice."

Ben H., OR (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"I have the Duramax Diesel with the Allison automatic transmission. Fuel economy is great for a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck - about 20 mpg on the highway. It pulls like a locomotive. Great with my cargo trailer and travel trailer as well as car trailer - Stable Your hardly know you are towing. Since it was actually built in 2006 it doesn't have the nasty emission controls that started in 2007. Great in the snow. A great truck all around."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Terrible ride. Great power."

K F., NM (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Steering too heavy."

Anonymous, HI (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Have the Duramax diesel. Truck can take off like a sports car, yet still returns excellent mileage. Handles very well for a large truck. Comfortable relaxed driving position with a great all around view. Very quiet inside."

Dale W., FL (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Problems with turbo charger beginning about 100000 miles"

Anonymous, OR (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Drives more like a car than a truck. When hauling our RV, it is a fully integrated system so slowing down, climbing hills or going around curves is simple. Has the power to pass slow moving vehicles even when hauling our 33' RV."

Karen O., BC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"It has smooth power I need for towing and carrying loads. It drives and rides for a 3/4 ton truck"

Greg J., WV (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The 6.0L is very powerful, will pull or haul anything and will get down the road as fast as you want, sometimes it does not even feel like a big heavy duty truck, I have a Ext Cab long bed and it drives and handles like a car for a 3/4 ton"

Crystal W., IN (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Good trailer towing ability with the Duramax diesel engine"

James R., OR (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Marla H., OK (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"very responsive acceleration."

Dave H., PA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The 6.6 litre diesel engine has been wonderful. It has excellent power and runs and starts very well. The truck still handles very well and stays level on the turns."

James B., AB (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Very quick acceleration. Has enough power to easily pull my large fifth wheel trailer."

Stephen C., NM (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Used mostly to haul a trailer and even with a heavy load acceleration is excellent and handling was good until the front lower ball joints started to fail. Note: this vehicle was serviced and maintained thru the dealer network."

Andrew G., CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Very powerful, dependable and great handling."

Anonymous, ID (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Diesel has lots of power for towing. Good transmission"

Anonymous, BC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"I pull a large camper with this unit and it can handle the job well."

Ronald H., IA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Comfort ride, ease of handling"

Anonymous, HI (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"We tow a 14,00 lb 5th wheel and have never had a problem with towing over the Sierra's. I can out pull my friends with diesel pushers and get almost twice the gas mileage."

John S., CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Although our Chev is 10 years old, there is no reason for the quality of the seats to degrade as they did. It;s as though they have lost their firmness and there is no comfort when driving for more than 2-3 hrs. Breaks are needed because the seats are so uncomfortable. This was not a problem when we first purchased this vehicle."

Anonymous, AB (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"This truck is less agile than some other vehicles we own but has a comfortable and fairly quiet ride."

Ben H., OR (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"It's a truck. Front seats are great, back seat very uncomfortable. Has suicide doors for rear doors which is awful. Difficult to load items in the back seat area in a parking lot and difficult to operate."

Anonymous, CO (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Chevy trucks have a very good quiet ride. Although the door armrests are hard as jagged rocks and can become quite uncomfortable on long drives.Mine's an extended cab and the door seals can become very squeeky at times which is very annoying"

Ray F., SD (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"good ride, comfortable seats. drivers seat is a little low for short people."

Anonymous, OR (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"the variety of seat positions, comfort of the seats, roominess, and the ride. This of course as compared to other trucks, not cars."

John M., NC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Well after being 11 years old the seat cushions are wore out and my xxxxx is sore after only 3 hours in truck. the arm rests are rock hard so they also are uncomfortable. And being a extended cab I am getting annoying squeaks from the door seals. seems to change with the weather. But it still rides better than any Dodge Iv'e ever owned. Cab noise for a diesel is great in a goodway."

Ray F., SD (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The noise level is quite loud compared to when it was newer but the tires may have some bearing on this, it is very comfortable other than that."

Anonymous, BC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"I find the steering is not positive enough."

Anonymous, BC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Truck is way more comfortable and quiet for any long distance trips. Seats sit you up straight, ride is smooth and highway noise is way less than car/suvs."

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Leather seats are great, console and all of the amenities make this ride great and is wonderful on the highway and trips"

Crystal W., IN (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"have had problems with keeping tires aligned and balanced"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Seating is basic, yet comfortable for long trips. Noise is not bad considering it is a truck. As would be expected for a 3/4 ton truck, ride is very firm when the truck is not loaded. Under load, however, ride is very satisfactory."

Anonymous, MI (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The ride is quite rough with the truck box empty but but is much better loaded. The factory noise level is acceptable. The heated adjustable seats are very comfortable. With 252000 km on the truck the leather seats are showing a bit of wear at entry points, which I think is normal. ."

James B., AB (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"This is a big truck that we use for hauling our RV. The seats are wide and adjust easily to make those long-distance trips very comfortable. Ride is smooth, don't really feel you are in a truck! Noise is minimal excepting a windshield rattle that can be fixed by purchasing clips. We opted not to do this and live with the sound."

Karen O., BC (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Very quiet ride. Drivers seat could be a bit more comfortable."

Stephen C., NM (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The seats are very comfortable for long drives even with over 300,000 miles on them. The seat warmers work great. Sound system works great. The ride is good even towing a 14,000 lb 5th wheel."

John S., CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"350,000 miles with normal maintenance and couple of minor repairs. Front brakes lasted for 275K miles, rear brakes 320k miles before needing replacing. Suspension is still original. I carry a 1000lb contractors box most of the time but take it off to pull a 5th wheel RV about 7000 miles each year."

Dennis D., MN (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Great value. I have driven this pickup for almost 11 years. We have towed a 32 ft 5th wheel from coast to coast. Have not found a hill that is too steep. No problems on any trips."

David G., CA (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"It tows a 14,000 lb. trailer and has never required other than routine maintenance. I have literally pulled tree stumps out of the ground and the truck runs like a swiss watch. How many 11 yo vehicles can make that claim?"
