This iteration of the Silverado is considerably improved over the previous model. It has a fairly comfortable ride along with easy access and cargo loading. A rack-and-pinion setup improved steering feel and response. Interior quality was also improved and the payload rating is generous. We appreciate the selectable full-time 4WD and standard stability control (optional on non-crew-cab versions) on the 1500.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"comfortable truck but hard on gas"

Anonymous, NB (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The towing capability of this truck . Put in cruise and sit back and drive."

Robert L., CA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"the steering has a slight play in it and I'm told by the dealer that it is normal. I don't like the fact I can move the steering wheel five degrees maybe 10 before the wheels move."

Renny S., MD (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Rides pretty well for a work truck. It's 4 wheel drive which gives it a floating feeling. I recently replaced the original tires due to age not mileage with more aggressive B.F. Goodrich All Terrain T/A which I like a lot. The original tiers were very slick in wet conditions. My truck has the big V8 so lots of power. It's not a sports car but the big V8 will accelerate this heavy vehicle faster than you would expect. Gas mileage is low but I don't drive it much so not a problem."

Dennis S., OH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"poor gas mileage"

Anonymous, WY (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Lots of power and acceleration. The turning radius is terrible. Very, very difficult to turn into a '90-degree' parking spot (where the parking spaces are at right angles instead of slanted). It almost always requires a partial turn, then backing up and finishing the turn."

Loretta L., ID (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Power, Torque, not bad fuel economy. That says it all! Handles a 13,000 LB trailer with no issues whatsoever."

Anonymous, BC (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"outstanding towing performance extra power for passing and more than adequate brakes"

Anonymous, NY (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"With the diesel engine it has great acceleration as well as plenty of power when fully loaded or towing something."

Bruce P., MD (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Very happy with Duramax Diesel performance when towing"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The Duramax performance is second to none."

Craig T., MO (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Maintains speed towing up hill"

Anonymous, NJ (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The truck is a bit rough, but it is a 2500HD so that is to be expected. The acceleration and power is awesome, and for a truck it handles very well. There is great visibility as well."

Anonymous, BC (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"It has the large V* engine which provides good power for accelerating this heavy vehicle. The ride is pretty good for a truck this heavy."

Anonymous, OH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Acceleration, handling and fuel mileage"

Carter S., CA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Still a comfortable ride after all these years. We travel long distances in this truck and the seats have held up well."

Lisa P., BC (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"It's incredibly comfortable for a pickup truck. We've driven many miles in this vehicle and still have been comfortable at the end of the trip. It's remarkably quiet also."

Loretta L., ID (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The leather seats remain comfortable and enjoy the heated seats"

Anonymous, KY (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"The 2500HD has a stiff ride but the seats are very comfortable and counter the stiffness of the suspension and make the ride comfortable"

Anonymous, NC (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"I never expected a pickup truck to feel so comfortable! We've taken several long trips in it, and it's comfortable from beginning to end, especially the seats. It doesn't feel like a pickup truck."

Loretta L., ID (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Great towing vehicle. I wouldn't buy another truck that didn't have the Allison Transmission."

Robert M., AZ (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"It's a good solid work truck. I bought it for use on some land I have. No bells and whistles other than A/C. Crank windows and manual locks - fun to see children see them. No major problems but I don't drive it much. Passenger side air bag recall recently repaired."

Dennis S., OH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Great value, purchased the truck new in Dec. of 2008 after the 2009 model was out. List price was $45,000 and paid $30,000. It has 95,000 miles on it without any major repairs. Have just done normal maintenance, oil changes, brakes tires, etc. I would buy another if I ever wear this one out."

Bruce P., MD (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"I bought this Chevrolet new in 2008. It is a basic work truck. I have not put many miles on it. It has been trouble free."

Anonymous, OH (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Great looks and performance"

Carter S., CA (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

"Ten years old almost no repairs great mileage towing with the Diesel engine"

Anonymous, NJ (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
