Honda Accord 2002 sedan
Trim Shown: Sedan
The competitively priced 2002 iteration remains one of our highest-rated family sedans. The V6 version is quicker and quieter than models equipped with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder, whose performance now trails the class leaders. In our most recent test of four-cylinder family sedans, we found the Accord's highway ride to be a bit stiff and jittery. Road noise was also more noticeable than in the other tested models, which included the Volkswagen Passat, the Toyota Camry, and the Nissan Altima. Handling was competent, though the tail occasionally slid out when car's handling limits were exceeded in our avoidance-maneuver test. The well-finished interior looks and feels inviting, with firm--if slightly flat--front seats and a low dash that gives short drivers good visibility. The low rear seat will accommodate two adults comfortably, three in a pinch. The Accord line's best value remains the LX V6 model, which is priced similarly to the four-cylinder EX.

Road Test

A fine and competent car, the Accord's braking, ergonomics and fit and finish are impressive. But engine performance, ride quality, accommodations and interior quietness aren't outstanding.
