Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Calipers

"Calipers are continually locking up and wearing the brakes down. Different tires. Causing me constant brake replacement and secondarily having to replace the tires constantly. It's awful"

Anonymous, MA (2011 Honda Accord 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Calipers had to be replaced with normal brake wear"

Robert P., MA (2011 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I had my car for 5 years with about 60,000 miles, After routine oil change and tire rotation. Honda say my rear brake calipers are stuck. I don't know how that happen. They show me that my rear rotors were damage. So I had to replace everything: the calipers, brake pads, and the rotors costing me over $1000. I thought calipers suppose to last a life time"

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Sticking caliper, replaced along with brake disc."

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"rear brake calipers froze up"

Anonymous, WI (2011 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I had to replace everything on the brakes on the back left side of the car. It was an expensive repair"

Anonymous, MI (2011 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Seized shortly after a brake job and said it wasn't their problem"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"rear calipers stuck thus causing back brake pads to wear out. New brakes and rotors were installed by dealer. Calipers were not replaced. Within a year the back calipers stuck again causing brake pads and rotors to be replaced again. No problems since."

Anonymous, OH (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Normal routine brake wear

"Brake pads were aftermarket rather than Honda parts"

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The dealer's certification seemed to overlook wear on the disc brakes"

M M., NJ (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"replace pads, turn rotors?"

Scott C., NS (2011 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Brake pads were worn...replaced by mechanic"

Anonymous, (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Replaced front brakes for the first time at 95,000 miles, rears at 105,000."

Anonymous, (2011 Honda Accord Unsure 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes needed a lot of pressure to stop"

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Accord EX 3.5-L V6)
Premature brake wear

"At a regular inspection, the dealer found that one of the rear brake pads was prematurely worn. As far as I know, the reason was corrected and the pads replaced"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Eats brake pads on top of the noise. The brakes have been bad since new, and though aftermarket brembo rotors and pads have helped it still makes noise. It goes through pads every 20k miles"

Jean W., MA (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Within 6 months after buying new car, I had to replace rear brake pads. I had the same problem with my 2008 Honda Accord (which I traded in). I don't know how the rear brakes are worn out faster than the front. It makes no sense to me at all"

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes required servicing one week after purchase. Rear Brake pads had to be replaced"

Anonymous, MD (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear brakes wear faster than front"

Vincent P., CA (2011 Honda Accord 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"this was probably due to the rotor problems."

Anonymous, (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"We park the car outside and did not drive it for several weeks because of COVID-19. The brake pads rusted and the car would not moved. We had it towed to the mechanic who replaced brake pads on all four wheels."

Anonymous, (2011 Honda Accord Unsure 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I feel unusually short brake pad life, I've had to have 2 brake jobs each on each axle, and the car only has 110000 miles on it"

Anonymous, LA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Pulsation or vibration

"this car has gone through 3 sets of honda front rotors. rotors are warping badly. brake pads had to be changed too. seems like a thing with all new cars...rotors warping."

Paul P., NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"pulsation from warping Rotors and uneven tire wear even after alingments. dealer cant seem to solve problems."

Paul P., NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Steering wheel vibration during braking is caused by the rotors getting warped from overheating due to the rotors being too small for the weight of the vehicle. Poor design."

Anonymous, LA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Rotors

"Replaced rear pads and rotors at 78500 miles"

Anonymous, CT (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Shortly after a brake service they warped"

Anonymous, AL (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Original Honda rotors are warped. They've already been turned twice. Dealership indicates Honda rotors are made from 3 different types of metals, so all three types of metals expand and contract differently, and warp very easily. Recommended solution was to have another front brake service, and replace rotors with non-Honda parts"

Michael M., LA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"This car has terrible rotors. always warping. Must change often along with pads. all OEM parts. i am on my 3rd set of Rotors"

Paul P., NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"front rotors warped and caused a pulsation when appling the brakes. Failed first time at less than 30000 miles which was covered under warrenty. Second set, oem replacements by the dealer, failed in less that 25000. 3 set were aftermarket and lasted 90000 miles. Just replaced the aftermarket rotors a 165000."

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors are undersized so heat buildup causes the rotor to permanently warp, causing vibration during routine braking."

Anonymous, LA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors warp quickly, 20000 miles"

Vincent P., CA (2011 Honda Accord 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Douglas P., WI (2011 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Corrosion and rust on rear rotors"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"this car goes through Rotors and brake shoes. every brand warps and shakes wheels. the bearings failed too."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The rear brake rotors had to be repaired at about 30-40K miles. This was some kind of known issue w/the Accord, and was either fully or partially covered by Honda. It wasn't a huge issue, but we were surprised by the issue, as we had not had problems with prior Honda models."

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors prematureluy warp after about 20,000 miles of driving."

Anonymous, NJ (2011 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"on my third set of rotors. they keep bending / warping. every change demands pad changes too."

Paul P., NY (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Squeaking

"Brakes on this car are horrid. It sounds like a train pulling into the station when the car hasn't had the brake dust washed off weekly. The car stops, it just sounds like it won't. And it doesn't exactly inspire confidence when you're questioning the brakes"

Jean W., MA (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Breaks replaced still squeaked aftee"

Anonymous, TX (2011 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Robert P., MA (2011 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"First couple applications when brakes are cold right front sounds like metal on metal (grinding). Also, in heavy use such as a long down hill the right front vibrates very badly and begins to fade after it heats up"

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"brakes squeak"

Roger S., FL (2011 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The brakes on the car constantly and consistently since new have made noise. The dealer did nothing at all and claimed it was 'normal.' But magically when our mechanic replaced the pads and rotors with Brembo, nothing. Brakes on this car are terrible"

Anonymous, MA (2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"After 70K mi with new rear brakes, even with 3 trips to shop nothing quiets squeaky brakes."

Zach B., TX (2011 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"When driving the car during very heavy rain water leaked into the trunk. We did not notice for a week or more. When I'd start over to get it seen to, the rattle would disappear, only to reappear later. Finally got it in when it was rattling, and some little gizmo had been broken off. They fixed it."

Tire pressure monitor

"Look the car has electrical problems, when the interior lights work the tire pressure monitor does not work, when, you turn on the turn signals, the radio and gps display blink, instead of the turn signal indicator, but that is only when the interior lights are working, when the interior lights start working the other items do not work. At times the alarm goes off while driving down the highway, it's kind of a pain. Honda does not know why and wants a few hundred an hour to try to figure it out. After owning several Honda's, since the 1980's, this is clearly the worse quality of the bunch I've owned and I'll probably not purchase another one. In addition, I caught a Honda dealer charging me for a oil filter they did not replace during an oil change and caught then several times not rotating my tires, but charging me for it. Plus, there is no shield to cover the serpentine belt from road water when you go over a puddle and thus momentarily, the power steering and electric goes out because the serpentine belt picks up water and the water splash causes the systems to fail, just for a few seconds. Honda after denying that was a problem, I was told that it was because there isn't a large enough shield but that it's only happens on the v6 ex model."

Though the dealership would not admit it, I believe the pressure sensor was improperly installed during the earlier warranty repair as the sensor appeared to be cross threaded into place and resulted in the technician snapping the refrigerant line trying to remove it for this repair - an added cost the dealership passed on to me."

Display screen goes blank

"The car has electrical problems that affects all of the electrical circuits intermittently. You don't have a way to check off that problem. The display will flash off and on when the turn signal is turned on, but then it stops and is ok and the courtesy lights stop working. the left side courtesy light stopped working for months, even with a new bulb, and then started working again but the right side light stopped working, the alarm system goes off while driving down the highway, you have to pull off the side of the road, shut off the car and start it again to get it to stop, Honda dealers haven't a clue what the problem is, they say it might be a grounding problem, also when you hit a puddle, the electrical system goes out for a few seconds and the power steering goes out until it is dry. I've tried all the fixes, they do not solve the problem I have friends that have the same problems with their accords too. To add insult to injury, I caught Gary Yeomans Honda three times charging me for rotating my tires and not actually doing the work, plus, charging me for a new oil filter they did not change. Some times when you turn on the turn signal, the tire pressure monitoring system fail light comes on, and the blinker does not work. Some times I get it to start the car and the GPS system needs a code, because it has lost electrical power, or the radio code has to be input, and it isn't because of a dead battery. Honda claims no one else has every had this problem, but plenty of people complain about it on the internet. Honda just wants a 150 an hour to figure it out for you. Honda just isn't the customer oriented, quality oriented company it used to be. , It seems they hired GM's former managers. I'm done with Honda, they are not the same company now, quality is not their main concern anymore. And they are not interested in repeated customers. I've had 6 Honda's this is by far the lowest quality."

"Accord is burning oil at the rate of 1500-1800 miles per quart. Honda says as long as the oil burning is better than a quart per thousand miles, this is normal. I understand this was an engineering problem with the 2011 Honda and the engine not sealing properly. I've never had a vehicle burn oil at anything approaching this rate and it is most definitely not normal, whatever Honda says. I was disappointed that CR had never reported this issue in its reliability results for this vehicle which I had relied upon when selecting this vehicle. Very Disappointing."

The same thing happened with my last accord, and I ended up with a failed transmission. $4500. Honda dealer tech told me it was normal! I was at fault for now t pulling the brake on extremely high and perhaps letting my foot off of the brake pedal because that was how the Hondas were! If I do that, I do not get the serious clunking and lurching"
