Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Anonymous, NY (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I have had my calipers replaced several times since I owned this car.. they have a problem on not releasing fully causing the pads and rotors to wear also.. sounds trivial but 3 times at 140,000 miles for calipers seems much.. I expect the customary break survice intervals but not caliper replacement by seizure"

R W., MD (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"With about 49,000 miles on the car, the rear driver side caliper became frozen. I was advised to replace both rear caliper assemblies for about $500."

Anonymous, NJ (2012 Honda Accord EX 3.5-L V6)

"Brakes were completely worn out"

James L., CA (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)
Parking brake

"Because of the way the brake system is set up on the 2012 Honda Accord one thing going bad can cause a lot of the other components to fail also. The left rear caliper was not releasing causing the rotor to become so hot that it was smoking. My mechanic told me, there is a lot going on with the way the system is designed. Everything is intertwined. So, the calipers, rotors and pads all had to be replaced."

Anonymous, (2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"As previously stated, left rear caliper was not releasing causing the rotor to become red hot and smoking."

Anonymous, (2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes were replaced at 62,000 miles. At 80,000 miles I was informed the rotors had warped and needed replacing. I bought the car with 49,500 miles and replaced the brakes at 62,000 miles. I don't understand how rotors warped between 62-80k miles."

"Any time we get brake work we need new rotors"

Lawrence V., MA (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Front rotors replaced due to wear. They had already been turned once and could not be turned again. Original rotors had warped causing a vibration when the brakes were applied hard"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Replace front brake rotors and pads to cure vibration in steering wheel when braking (June 2016). Rotors were out of spec for parallelism (did work myself). Did not turn rotors because the vibration always returns after about a year when it has been done in the past on other Accords"

Anonymous, VA (2012 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I Have owned three Accords previously and had put 150K miles or more and never had a rotor issue. I have 99K miles on this 2012 and have had to have the rotors turned twice, about every 50K. My driving habits and situations have not changed. I really believe they are a poor quality rotor if there is such a thing"

Dan C., AR (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"The back passenger rotor was worn and damaged because the brake on that side wore MUCH faster than the other side. The brake wore down to the metal and started to eat into the rotor and spray off rust onto the suspension, rim, and even out to the rear quarter panel of the car (even as far around as the rear license plate there was a rust/brake dust mix which was hard to get off). Clearly, I let this go too long before I realized the problem. But when I changed the brake, I found that the driver's side brake pad was at least half in tact. I had to use a rotary tool to remove the rust from the internal suspension parts and brake parts. I used laundry detergent (Arm & Hammer powder detergent in water - high concentration - did a good job of rubbing it off without damaging the paint). I have been unable to get it off the rim without causing it damage. The rotor was still thick enough and smooth enough to keep so I replaced the brake pads on one side and will replace both rotors and pads the next time I need brakes."

Mark E., NJ (2012 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I have had to have the rotors turned three times, about every 40K miles. I have owned four Honda's and have never had this issue with any of other vehicles."

Dan C., AR (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"rotors started shaking when breaking beginning at 15,000 miles. Was told they would have to be resurfaced and this was normal to the car and would continue to have to be done every 25,000 miles until they had to be replaced - never had a car do this"

Anonymous, SC (2012 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Rotors warped and needed to be resurfaced just after warranty ran out. There had been some pulsing of brakes. Have heard others with same complaint"

Derek W., PA (2012 Honda Accord LX-S 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"at about 67,000 miles the pads had to be replaced and the rotors had to be "cut" . expensive repair"

Anonymous, NJ (2012 Honda Accord EX 3.5-L V6)

"Rotors needed to be turned"

Valerie P., FL (2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"At 16146 the front rotors needed to be re-surfaced. I have had seven honda and have never had this happen to any of them. I was very surprised to have this happen"

George G., MI (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Hondas seem to have an issue with warped rotors causing brake rumble and pulsation. This Accord has had the issue for about 20,000 miles"

Joseph C., KS (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"All of the window belt weatherstripping is delaminating from the trim strip. Honda wants hundreds of dollars to replace. I've seen this happened on both our 8th gen Accords. I've never seen this happed on any other vehicle I've owned, and certainly wasn't expected from a Honda. You're buying the engine, too bad the rest of the car will fall apart around you before you have drivetrain issues."

The dealership checked both of the Accords I own and, again, wanted hundreds of dollars to disassemble the entire rear seat and deck to reinsulate. If it was under-insulated, this is Honda's problem, not mine. Dealership refused to pay for or subsidize this issue."

"I found it troubling that the vehicle had emission control problems considering the age of the car. It was also not a cheap fix."

Anonymous, TN (2012 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Catalytic converter had to be replaced at 95000 miles"

Anonymous, FL (2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, CO (2012 Honda Accord EX 3.5-L V6)

Mark W., OH (2012 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Fuel cap

"The dashboard warning kept indicating the fuel cap was not secured when it was, and then the dashboard warning light for required maintenance also came on related to the cap. We paid for tests at the dealer that detected no problem and a new cap which has resolved the difficulty."

Anonymous, WI (2012 Honda Accord EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Every once in a while I'd get the dash Ck the Fuel Cap alarm. I'd have to pull over and reset the fuel cap. It was a pain in the butt to have to reset the cap. UGH!!!"

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

"back driver's side door lock no longer works with automatic locks at all. Neither with remote or in-car use of the button. Must manually unlock it each time. Also door sensor shows permanently opened unless a thick piece of paper over it"

Jessica C., TX (2012 Honda Accord SE 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Locks and latches

"door lock actuator replaced"

Timothy L., TN (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Seat belts

"Seat belts will not retract properly. Honda continually says it is not a safety issue and will not cover it under warranty. They suggest cleaning. Multiple times they have cleaned the belts but the problem reoccurs within 24 hours. Belts can jam in door and result in the door sensor being out of alignment which causes doors to unlock in cold weather."

Anonymous, IL (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"I noticed a an issue with the motor early. I purchased the car with 22K miles on it. I took it to the local dealer to service and the car was using oil. The dealership monitored it for about 4 or 5 oil changes and then it seemed to quit using oil. They mentioned to me that the 6 cylinder engine had a known problem and to just monitor it. I guess I was fortunate the it was just the 1 - 4 spark plugs and not a ring job. At least for now"

Dan C., AR (2012 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5-L V6)

Rough shifting

"The car vibrates at certain RPM subtle but annoying!"

Garrett S., MN (2012 Honda Accord 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, OH (2012 Honda Accord LX-P 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Clutch replacement

"Clutch disk was completely worn down. This resulted in difficulty accelerating confidently. Clutch disk had to be replaced, which apparently was a major job due to the position of the clutch relative to other components in the car. It's probably something that would have happened eventually, but it happened sooner than I would have expected. I was probably more aggressive in my driving style that I've been with my previous manual-transmission cars, which is why it wore down sooner than expected."

Anonymous, CA (2012 Honda Accord LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Transmission rebuild or replacement

"transmission was making noise from the start when deceleration. I got an extended no deductible warranty. first dealer said they all do it, years later, the second dealer said it was not supposed to make noise-replaced it free of charge-now it does not make noise,,,very happy."
