Introduced in 2007, this generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent acceleration with 5.7 L V-8. 381 hp. Fun to drive."

E A., OH (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Great turning radius for a truck this long is amazing. The 5.7L has more power than needed, but still gentle on economy if you're not out to prove something macho."

David N., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is touching when starting from a standstill. Handles well"

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"My Subaru is better in packed snow then the truck. Acceleration is good for a truck. The 4 wheel drive system is less than optimal!!"

Stephen S., CO (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It has fantastic power -- too bad it handles like a pickup truck -- no pickup truck handles well"

David S., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"With 5.7 liter engine, acceleration is greater than I ever need to use. Handling is excellent. It is very comfortable for long-distance driving."

Anonymous, MD (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The accelerator tends to stick and surge. Dealers have checked it and claim that it is due to the extra horse power."

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Great for towing my boat. Much better than the Yukon I owned prior."

Randall A., KY (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Truck 10 years old and still drives like a hot rod. Got 5.7 liter in TRD regular cab and it handles and accelerates like a jet. Loved it 10 years when i bought new and still love it today."

Anonymous, MS (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Great towing, great power,"

Herman P., VA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Buttery smooth power delivery, smooth shifting, lots of low end torque."

Craig R., WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The 4.7 L V8 is very responsive, with adequate torque in all conditions. The accelerator is not as linear as I'd like, the handling is secure but a bit stiff, but I prefer that when off road."

Anonymous, CT (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It drives well.."

Anonymous, AB (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It drives well. It is 4 wheel drive and I use it on very rough, steep, muddy or dusty roads . It takes these conditions well."

John M., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It has plenty of power to pull our large travel trailer. It is very reliable--it has never had a problem on the road."

E B., WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The 381 HP engine is remarkedly responsive (DOHC, VVT help) and the 0-60 acceleration is comparable to my old muscle cars. I was very pleasantly surprised."

Paul S., VA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very good on ice and snow, auto control system has worked beyond expections!"

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Great engine performance even with over 200k miles."

Michael V., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra is a very quiet ride, however, it really bounces around and is not smooth at all when driving on the newer freeways that have expansion cracks."

Anonymous, UT (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"GREAT acceleration, quick, precise stops and excellent turning radius, better even than some compact cars."

NESTOR C., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Lots of power for passing"

TOM N., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Handling"

TORQUIL M., AB (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The accelerator is very touchy. The truck jerks when you push on the pedal."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"drives like a capable, solid, reliable ride: once you get used to it's size"

Anonymous, NY (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I love the fact that it sit up high and it accelerates like a sports car. I have the V8 with the 5.7 liter and tows like a HD pickup."

WILLIAM M., GA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Dead stop slow acceleration is not smooth. Cruse control down shifts on hills is annoying"

DAVID D., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"This vehicle, even with a pop-up camper on the back of it, has a powerful engine that enables quick acceleration and good ability to pass other vehicles, especially on a two-lane highway."

STEVEN S., CO (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles great, tows my RV great. Only problem is handling on slick winter roads. It has too much power and is not heavy enough on rear wheels."

RONALD J., ID (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It easily tows the wifes warm blood horse and/or a load in the bed up hills withouut any strain. Easily accelerates when merging on freeways. Plus it rides more comfortably than most cars."

ALBERT B., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very powerful engine, especially compared to the prius"

K K., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"solid, rides nicely with an additional 400 lbs in the box"

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"acceleration torque very good even when towing a travel trailer"

GARY R., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

RICHARD R., OH (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"In4wheel drive it is amazing - on the beach or in snow & ice."

W W., VA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Comfortable on long trips. Plenty of power. Lots of can in space."

Anonymous, OR (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The TRD package was a mistake which makes the ride rough. I wouldn't do that again. It's a popular option that looks good with a label on the side of the truck, but not in practice."

MIKE R., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Overall I am satisfied. However, there was a recall to update the ECU software. After this was complete the truck seems a little more sluggish in it's response."

Anonymous, CO (2007 Toyota Tundra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Very comfortable front seats. Ride is very stiff."

Zack G., NC (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are ok. Road noise is awful. Rides better than Ford or Ram trucks"

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats and ride are excellent."

Mark W., CT (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable and smooth for a pickup....CR has reported a gelatinous wiggle when bed is unloaded, which is true, but hardly a distracting factor. Overall passengers often comment on how quiet and smooth the truck rides."

David R., OR (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seats"

Tyna G., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Cloth seats are comfortable and noise levels are low. Ride is a little stiff with TRD package"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"With highway tires, ride is better than most sedan automobiles. Seats are excellently comfortable. Cabin is very quiet. This Tundra is appealing to drive."

Anonymous, MD (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"feels like a new truck"

Robert L., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are great very comfortable, I am 6'5" and fit well"

Liz-Al C., MN (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I have a 2007 Tundra that I purchased new in 2007. It has only 5500 miles on it ten years later. This vehicle is smooth powerful and well engineered. My only complaint is that after 4 gas pedals being swapped out because of the pedal sticking recall, the gas pedal has too much spring action which makes it difficult to take off smoothly from a dead stop"

Mark M., NH (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"For ride comfort and visibility, the 07 Tundra with rear window and rear seat reclining make this a dream for long distance travel and for hauling. After 10 years of wear, it still rides like new."

David N., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It is quiet and extremely powerful"

David S., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"of all the pickup trucks that I have owned, this is, by far, the most comfortable with respect to seats, noise, and ride"

Judson L., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The truck is super comfortable to drive: it handles like a car and is responsive and fun to drive but still can perform very competently as a truck. If it got better mileage (a lot better), I'd never drive anything else!"

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"We were surprised how well the truck rides and how quiet. It is almost like a fine car. Handling is fine, too."

Paul S., VA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats ar comfortable enough but the ride one the freeways is not smoothbat all. It is noisy and bounces on all of the expansion joints of the concrete freeway. Asphalt doesn't have expansion joints so the ride is much smoother on these types of roads."

Anonymous, UT (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Do not feel tired after driving long distances. Road noise is average, but could be a bit quieter. Michelin tires have helped."

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"the fan that runs the vents for the back seat is very very weak. Always has been. Not sure if that is normal or a defect since vehicle was new. Kids sit in the back seat most of the time so ... well it does not bother me."

Anonymous, CT (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Worst seats as far as comfort of any car I have ever owned. All seats are too hard. Ford seats in King Ranch version are wonderful. Toyota really missed the boat on the 2007 comfort level."

J G., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"EBERYTHING"

Anonymous, GA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Leather interior very comfortable"

KIM R., LA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It's like driving from your living room recliner."

GARY M., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The driver's seat is beginning to unravel"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"seats are excellent for comfort, vehicle is powerful and pulls a travel trailer with ease"

GARY R., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are comfortable. Comfortable ride and handles quite nice. Lots of power if needed"

TORQUIL M., AB (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Ride is stiff"

EILEEN S., LA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Automatic traction control system-- excellent on ice & snow."

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are very comfortable, but the ride is very stiff with no load in the 'bed'. If you have about 1500 lbs in the bed the ride is much improved. With that weight in the bed the back of the truck doesn't drop down and the front end raise up. Great 'hauling' truck."

MIKE S., SC (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I have short legs and have trouble accelerating smoothly from a stop. It feels like the gas pedal is too far away when seat is adjusted to proper distance from brake pedal."

Anonymous, WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"front window freezes closed in bad weather, and cannot open it up till the temp. goes above freezing."

Anonymous, MA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Most comfortable seats I've sat in from way vehicle, truck or car"

BILL C., NS (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"It is a truck, noisy and too big with the bed too high to be very useful without a ladder. The dashboard indicators are very hard to read, they are recessed so deeply into the dash."

NANCY C., GA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I have owned several trucks and as far as interior comfort is concerned, this is the best. The only issue I have with it is that the bed rattles at at about 70mph, I hardly notice it anymore, but it used to bother me quite a bit."

STEVE W., WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I tow a 27 foot trailer and the Tundra performs above expectations. The ride is comfortable and the excelleration is great."

Anonymous, OR (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seat. Good lumbar support. Would be nice if adjustable though."

Anonymous, AK (2007 Toyota Tundra)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"the tundra is the ultimate utility vehicle. it hauls concrete, pulls heavy trailer loads, and takes you to church on Sunday"

Judson L., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Quality of parts has been outstanding!"

Anonymous, OH (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"10 years old and less than $750 in TOTAL repairs excluding oil, filters and tires"

Rick B., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Got the Tundra 2nd hand and it was a terrific deal"

John M., MA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck is very reliable and we have towed a travel trailer 62,000 miles with it without incident. Recently I rebuilt the brakes, not unusual for towing so much. Very powerful, fair ride (good for a pickup). Seats could be better. Very good truck except for pathetic gas mileage. No reason to buy new one because Toyota has done nothing with it for ten years except change sheet metal around a little,"

Gene G., CO (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Highly reliable truck. No problems in ten years."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"No mechanical problems at all"

Tyna G., AL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Has been a excellent truck for the purpose we bought it for"

Anonymous, CO (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Purchased at a good price at the end of year. Have had no problems with it. Is capable of towing boat and trailer across country with no problems"

Richard K., NC (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Had to have transmission rebuilt and don't use this for pulling. I've been told by mechanics this year it happens often. AC has gone out - mechics say it costs more to work on because of placement of motor in this year."

Glen T., LA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"You can't beat this truck for reliability, towing, handling, cab design, and ergonomics in driving. 85,000 miles, much of it either off-road, in 4WD, Lo Range sometimes, towing a 6500 lb travel trailer, etc. and it's never had a mechanical issue. Runs and drives like a new one so much that yesterday my son bought a brand new 2016 Tundra and is equiping it with the same equipment."

DOUGLAS B., WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I used the old pricing system you offered when CR was still an honest broker and I got a great deal negotiating on my own."

DAVID H., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I think Toyota vehicles command a high price for used vehicles because of their reputation for long-term reliability. I was glad to pay a bit more because I expected that, and I have not been disappointed."

LARRY L., NY (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"good value"

KAREN S., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"We tow a RV and have gone coast to coast with no trouble. We regularly drive in 4wheel drive on the beach and this truck is amazing. We also pull a boat, so you can see we really use this truck and put it through its paces. We also snow ski and drive in snow and ice."

W W., VA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Very good value for a 4x4 off road truck"

Anonymous, GA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Overall paid below book price"

KIM R., LA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Disappointed in the quality. Radio Volume wide open so I cannot use the radio. 4 wheel system went out but Toyota paid 75% to fix. Bumper chrome is peeling. The ride is very rough. Fuel milage very poor. Love the engine power."

JOSEPH R., KS (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"We use our Tundra for pleasure and hauling items. It has been invaluable for our needs. Love the extended cab, the acceleration, the comfort of the ride."

CHRISTOPHER F., CA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I use it in many ways and rely on it daily. The truck has over 135000 miles on it and has never let me down from the mountains to the desert."

MARVIN W., AZ (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I bought a 2wd regular cab for a great deal. I have 113,000 on it and no signs of any wear. I hope to keep it way past 200,000."

JORDAN M., MN (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Everything on it that needs repair is outrageously high."

LARRY G., TX (2007 Toyota Tundra)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I like the way it looks better than the latest models"

Anonymous, IL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I always liked the style of the tundra"

Anonymous, MA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"I have had this vehicle for nearly 10 years and I still think it is about the best looking truck on the road."

STEVE W., WA (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"The first thing that attracted me to this truck was its styling, rounded corners, aggressive stance (looks like a bulldog to me!) and overall looks are great, it set it apart from all the other, block shaped, full size trucks. I like it much better than the new style."

NESTOR C., FL (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Outside mirrors block the view on side traffic when at a stop sign. Need to move them down somewhat. Also, too much road noise."

JERALD J., IN (2007 Toyota Tundra)

"Good, plenty of storage spaces. Do not like the black piano plastic around audio and temperature controls however."
