Introduced in 2007, this generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Very powerful acceleration, handles well considering it is a pickup."

Glenn K., WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The V8 engine has a lot of power and great acceleration, but if your a bit heavy on the right foot you'll pay for it at the pump! The Toyota has one of the best turning ratios of any pick up out there. The 4wd work really good. And in good Toyota form, it's been very reliable, other than tires, I haven't had to replace or fix anything on it. Not counting a couple of recalls from the factory that didn't cost me anything."

Robert C., CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent towing vehicle"

Anonymous, PA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Drives great excellent horse power"

Hunter H., TX (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"very solid and comfortable"

Anonymous, MO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is good. Handling is just not as responsive or agile as a sedan, but I don't think any pick-up is."

Hyrum A., NH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Exceptional steering and handling. Acceleration is superb"

Anonymous, ME (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra was made to haul - we tow over 9,000 pounds and it never quits and with the cruise on, we stay with traffic and not behind the slower trucks. The automatic shift feature is seamless, and we love this truck! Will never sell it, keep it forever and give to our grandchildren when we no longer drive!"

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent acceleration and handling."

Victor V., CO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"acceleration and comfort"

Anonymous, MD (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles and accelerates great. Gas mileage could be improved."

Lloyd H., MD (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Have driven it cross-country 3 times in last couple of years without incident. Handles freeway speeds of 80+ and accelerated passing speeds easily."

Frieda H., OR (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"gas pedal is too sensitive. Later models are improved. Ride is good"

Jordan N., TX (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Powerful engine. Handles & drives as well as it did when new."

Dave R., CO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Has plenty of power and rides good"

Anonymous, FL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"We use the this vehicle primarily as a people/equipment hauling tool. We have a band and this truck has worked exceptionally well for carrying a full load of band members as well as an enclosed trailer behind. The towing package works great, even with heavier loads, and with our 5x8 band trailer, I almost forget that it's there. The 5.7L engine is more than enough power for every job I've ever used it for. Also, the Crew Cab model is extremely spacious and makes long road trips feel like you..."

Jessica H., SC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Accelerates well and the steering is very good"

David C., SC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Powerful acceleration is hard to adapt to, but excellent for maneuvering"

Lara F., OR (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Great power, esp for towing. Tight turning radius is a great help. great vehicle for long trips"

Christopher S., NC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The acceleration is, at times, sluggish and then it jumps forward when it "catches". It looks like the driver is driving erratically, when in fact, they are not. The turning radius is also cumbersome."

Anonymous, GA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Quick pick-up and passing. Great tow vehicle for 6,600 pound travel trailer."

JAMES N., AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Turns sharp for a full size truck. Plenty of power and not too bad on fuel compared to another truck I had owned."

ROSS D., WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"High rear differential ratio provides relatively increased towing capacity at expense of gas mileage but vehicle struggles to handle payload and trailer towing at high end of capacity."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The drive was great until the stupid gas pedal issue. The replacement make accelerating a jerky uncomfortable start."

KATHY H., NH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"definately got what we paid for.....has plenty of power to keep us out of harms way when needed."

Anonymous, SC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is jerky, especially when cold it is difficult to accelerate smoothly."

Anonymous, WI (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"I have 28 ft boat that I tow(10000LBS ) . This truck pulls it with ease and handles the stopping of the load adequately as well. I also do a lot of off road driving, farm fields, and the 4x4 mode handles it with ease."

R C., IL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Very stable and handles great on slick surfaces. Awesome acceleration. Somewhat difficult to park due to size."

Anonymous, IL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The acceleration is very sensitive when the engine is cold and the AC/defrost is turned on. The truck wants to rapidly accelerate under these conditions."

TOM W., IN (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Awesome power."

DAVID L., WI (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"I found that the stock passenger tires that came with my truck were much too weak in the sidewall for such a heavy truck. I had the dealership switch my tires to LT tires and find it is much improved."

TIM C., NE (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Seems to not have enough power to tow it's specified weight."

TRUDY B., BC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck is a great cross-country cruiser. I also pull an rv trailer. I chose this truck over a Tacoma because of the V-8. It really pulls the trailer effortlessly, slowing down only on the steepest, long inclines, like going up into the mountains."

TINK T., CO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Love the truck but it is such a big vehicle that I have I am not comfortable driving it every day. We live where we need a 4x4 powerful truck in case of emergency. We enjoy the ride on the road but the mpg is not great but knew that when we purchased it. You can not have this power and 4x4 and great mpg!"

RON C., NM (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"handles really well"

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"This year of Tundra has touchy acceleration, it lurches. Newer years do not."

RON M., BC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable, great acceleration when needed. Not a very high payload capacity. Gas mileage lower than desired."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are roomy and comfortable. great sound system. lots of power."

FILMORE H., CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent acceleration. Enough torque to pull a house down the road. We use ours on the ranch to pull a gooseneck cattle trailer. Unfortunately, it get very poor mileage when doing so."

CHRIS C., TX (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Tons of power, strong acceleration"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

P R., NV (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"super comfortable to drive and very quiet to drive rides like a truck"

Anonymous, OR (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The truck is very comfortable on long rides, the seats have a great range of motion to adjust them to your needs. Controls are easy to reach and operate."

Robert C., CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Fits 6 people comfortably, rides well, and is still a full (6.5 ft bed) pickup truck for towing and hauling."

Louis H., NY (2008 Toyota Tundra)

Anonymous, NH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent seats and comfort. Very quiet interior even after 10 years and 190,000 miles!"

Marilyn B., CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Much smoother and quieter than I would expect in a full size truck."

April S., TX (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Handling good, ride a little rougher that I would like."

Anonymous, TN (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Extremely comfortable seats and ride"

Lara F., OR (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Power and smooth control"

JEFFREY R., ME (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable even on long trips"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable driver's seat. Superb A/C system. The truck is rock solid on the road. I feel totally secure when I am driving this truck. Great visibility due to height of driver's position."

DANIEL A., SC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The AC could be beefed up. Not as cool as I would like it."

MICHAEL W., WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are not as comfortable as I have had in the past."

TRUDY B., BC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"I didn't get a package with front seats that had much lumbar. There is some, but i'd like more. The ride is good, climate control good, but slow, noise levels are good."

Anonymous, TN (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The climate control fan could use some more power."

ROSS D., WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Use it for long trips; very comfortable for all"

P R., NV (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Bench front seat"

WILLIAM F., CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"This feels like a car not a truck, good AC, it's getting a little noisy now, ride is OK. Bad point seems to be the tires, I have trouble keeping them inflated. I have used two makes of tires, Firestone recommended by Tundra, that don't last long, and Michelin which also seem to be wearing quickly. I live on a rough road and snow plow during the winter."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The ride is choppy unless you have a load in it. The gas mileage is poor but it does have a lot of power."

RICHARD-NANCY D., VT (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"rides a little hard"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Ride could be better"

Anonymous, IL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The comfort of this truck is what I'd expect, except for the terrible squeaks this thing makes when hitting bumps. The Toyota dealership cannot find any issues, but believes that it stems from the struts and shocks, which do not need replaced."

TIM C., NE (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Seating, interior, noise control - all around very comfortable and quiet."

JAMES N., AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"The tundra is very comfortable for very tall drivers."

Anonymous, GA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"I think the seats a to firm or just plain hard"

PETER C., AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The price of a new Volvo up front is money that the buyers earn back many times over by not having to pay for frequent and expensive engine and system work over decades of ownership. Well worth it."

Frieda H., OR (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"LOVE this truck! Excellent ride, comfortable even on long trips, plenty of storage behind the sliding rear seats, which recline. Plenty of head and foot room for both front and rear seat passengers (I have the Crewmax). Sliding rear window w/defroster is a wonderful feature for cooling the vehicle quickly w/o excessive wind noise. Have only had do perform normal maintenance (oil & filter changes, tires, brakes, etc.) for 145,000 miles & it still runs great. The only potential drawback is it..."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Great value for the money!"

Anonymous, WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"It is built for longevity and holds it quality well."

Anonymous, CO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Reliable. Good power."

Dave R., CO (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Advertised towing specifications do not really match actual capabilities. 10,000 lb towing capacity is achieved by using an increased rear-end differential ratio (4.11:1) resulting in very poor gas mileage when not towing."

Anonymous, FL (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Purchased the vehicle when pickup trucks were not selling in summer/fall 2008, so was heavily discounted. Although would have purchased anyway because only pickup that fits 6 people without having to go to a 4 ft bed."

Louis H., NY (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Reliability that you can't get with American trucks! Bad is gas mileage. Toyota needs to compete in this category and they still refuse too. Also the American trucks really give an option on the richer feel in the interior where Toyota only goes to the utilitarian interior. But I bought it for reliability that is unmatched. Truck is 8yrs old and NO problems."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Low price for a very reliable vehicle"

Shannon C., OK (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent purchase and value. I haul sand, rocks and other material with no problems. Towing of boat and trailer with ease. I work recommend 5.7 engine for towing larger/heavier loads. Lots of 4x4 use in fall during hunting season. Comfortable and lots of storage for cups, under back seat, etc. To this date, no repairs required. All for $25000."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"it's been a really good truck - hauling stuff and very comfortable for the riders; well worth the cost and maintenance has not been expensive"

Anonymous, AZ (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Incredible reliability. Immense power from the 5.7L engine. Massive front and rear disc brakes. Superb transmission. Tows my camper without effort."

DANIEL A., SC (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"I only paid 17,888 for it new"

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Pickup that works well (that's what a pickup is supposed to do) at a reasonable price, not overpriced to subsidize other models."

LOUIS H., NY (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"mpg is terrible"

Anonymous, NV (2008 Toyota Tundra)

Anonymous, NH (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"There are racier cars, but 47 mpg vs my truck at 14mpg makes it obvious for around town. Sold my soul for mpg and vouldn't be hsppier with my little zippy car. Its too light for rainey days and I need to take extra caution then - or just drive the truck."

Anonymous, WA (2008 Toyota Tundra)

"Pay attention to the warranty"

JEFFREY R., ME (2008 Toyota Tundra)

MIKE L., AL (2008 Toyota Tundra)
