This generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound. Among them, the Tundra's ride is jittery, especially with the TRD off-road package.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"mpg should be a lot better but it drives like a race car"

ROGER P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"My acceleration is top notch for a pickup this size. My handling is also excellent, though it did improve after I installed a Toyota TRD rear sway bar. I believe that the sway bar should be standard equipment on all trim levels."

Anonymous, ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"1794 Edition handles very well with a very responsive acceleration"

SOEREN P., WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"the acceleration is lagging and jerkkey, going up hill it shifts up and down constanly, The ride is wonderful smooth quite and it is easy over the bumps"

RENE T., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Love how much power it has and how big it feels."

VIC C., LA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I pulled a 9,000 lb camper in the Rockies. This truck can accelerate and pick up speed going up a 10,000 foot mountain. Incredible!"

ROY S., LA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Steering system is completely manageable. Ease of driving at high speeds is not stressful as you feel complete control is in your hands."

RICHARD D., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"only handling problem is the restricted rear view, several times I have been unaware of a vehicle approaching when backing up."

Anonymous, BC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"With the 4.6 motor, I expected better gas mileage. I only get 17.8 MPG same as my 2007 Avalanche 5.3 motor. Stifer ride than Avalanche but more trouble free."

RICHARD W., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Compared to my 2004 F150 Lariat the Tundra was louder in the cab. With the trucks being 10 years apart in age I expected better from Toyota."

DAVID M., NV (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Not as comfortable as previous 2006/7 Toyota Tundra."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Compared to the Tacoma I owned for 10 years, the Tundra's seats are far superior for comfort. Headroom and the size of the cab is roomy. AC is cold. Noise is what I expect from a pick up."

VINCENT N., MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"rides like a cadillac but its a truck"

ROGER P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are large and well padded giving ample room and comfortable feel. The cab is large and feels spacious, not confined. Road noise is reasonable, though there is some room for improvement. It's not loud enough to rate it poorly though. The climate control and the ride are both excellent."

Anonymous, ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The steering column rattles. Vehicle was purchased used."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Driver Seat is very uncomfortable. Very stiff"

Anonymous, OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I am a tall man. (6'6"). The front drivers seat does not go low enough to make the drive comfortable. I had to modify the seat to make the truck acceptable."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Noise level and climate control are good, better than in my 1996 Camry LE V6 Wagon. Ride is stiff without a load in the bed, but not unexpected. The ride smooths out with 1100 lbs. of camper in the bed, which it handles well with sway bars (installed at purchase). The front seats in the SR5 do not come with lumbar support, a serious problem that I had to correct with dealer installation of lumbar support, which helped. But the driver seat is still not as comfortable as the one in my Camry, a"

MICHAEL W., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seat ventilation is not adequate, vehicle rides stiff, seats are not comfortable, exhaust system and road noise is annoying"

Anonymous, NE (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are very comfortable."

MICHAEL B., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"excellent driver seat very comfortable, wish passenger seat had same adjustments"

RONALD M., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Complete seat comfort on long trips."

RICHARD D., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The vented seats work poorly. Can barely tell if air is flowing through them."

PATRICK I., PA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Driver seat leather wears prematurely on outside edge from sliding in and out of vehicle. If Toyota had installed a hand grip above door (like on other 3 door) to assist climbing in and exiting vehicle, that would have improved performance of seat. I am currently on my 2nd replacement cover. Original seat cover wore out at 6,000 miles, the 1st replacement wore out at 28,000 miles and I am currently 3,000 miles into the 3rd leather seat cover and it shows no wear yet."

DAVID L., OK (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Did not come equipped with wiper delay switch and no aftermarket add on is available."

GLEN J., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I have a basic SR model, it has been a good performer. We prefer it to travel long distances - very comfortable. It also plows snow well. I have a Fisher HT installed."

WILLIAM D., ME (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Read a number of bad reviews on the Tundra criticizing the hulky size, handling, looks, and lousy gas economy. But it is no bigger than other trucks and I think it handles well. As well I have grown to appreciate the looks, although I like the old look much better. As to gas: the competition is only a mile or two or three more per gallon as listed on the sticker. I have had as good as 19 miles per gallon on the highway."

VINCENT N., MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Maybe not cutting edge but it WORKS and is reliable and easy to operate."

DAVE G., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"It's clear in the 2014 Tundra that Toyota has lowered their reliability standards. I've had premature battery, tire, and Entune system failures. I'm not sure that I'll buy another Toyota."

STAN B., AZ (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"resale not good"

ALLEN H., SC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Too much outside noise when all windows are closed. Whereby the interior is styled simular to the Lexus, the noise insulation is poor"

CLARENCE C., AR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The height of the hood is entirely too high and serves no function other than to look "big and powerful" to compete with Ram. It makes judging the frontal distance from objects."

GREG T., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Looks good."

MICHAEL B., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I think it is a great looking truck. It flows. No square look at all."

VICTOR S., UT (2014 Toyota Tundra)

If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
