This generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound. Among them, the Tundra's ride is jittery, especially with the TRD off-road package.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"I bought it primarily to pull my camper. It does a terrific job. I also like the 4WD as it helps getting up my drive way in icy weather."

James V., NE (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"drives like a sports car. would like to see better fuel mileage"

Roger P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"We have the 5.7L V8 engine and four-wheel drive options on the truck. The accelerator pedal is quite sensitive; it must be pressed slowly, else the rear tires will squeal when accelerating from a standstill. With the firm suspension, the handling feels nimble."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very solid engine and drivetrain. It handles well. However, the wider tires in the Limited do not enhance its handling in the snow conditions."

Scott T., MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent performance in every detail."

Anonymous, MB (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I spend most of my driving time pulling a 33' travel trailer. The Tundra is near perfect for this task. The 5.7L engine has taken me over all types of terrain in good weather and bad and never been less than spectacular. I love the manual shift mode for shifting down to aid in downhill braking. The tow mode real maintains speed in hilly terrain."

James M., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"great acceleration and hadling"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck has very good road handling, and far more power than I have ever needed."

James F., NM (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Plenty of power with fast acceleration. Steering is precise and it corners well enough for a full size pickup."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Transmission shifting at highway speeds needs improvement."

Anonymous, MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"great acceleration with and without a load and it handles well"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Handling is very good. Not as good as my Mini Cooper but very good for a truck."

Anonymous, WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Great comfort and response. Doesn’t act like a truck"

Ray B., AL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"VERY ACCURATE STEERING COMPARED TO OTHER 1/2 TONS. BEST TOWING 1/2 TON MADE FOR PULLING TRAVEL TRAILER. EXCELLENT 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM, SOLID TRUCK, NO RATTLES OR NOISES. DOES IT ALL W/O TURBOS TO WORRY ABOUT."

Mark B., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Great acceleration and handling."

Jerry P., IN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Great acceleration"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"ACCELERATION AND HANDLING ARE GREAT!"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Quite sporty for a 4-wheel drive full-size pickup truck!"

David B., WY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Handles well , but everything is well built not flimsey like other trucks i have had . Although some trucks get better milage , cost of operating is not just gas milage , when i replaced an automatic transmission on a domestic brand just out of warranty ."

Peter G., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Adequate acceleration, handling is clunky. When I need my truck I drive my truck. otherwise I drive my 2017 Camry. Great!"

Joseph A., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The vehicle is very quiet and smooth. Doesn't handle or ride like a truck."

Larry M., OH (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration: when slowing for a turn, left or right, then accelerating, there is an occasional half second or second pause prior to accelerating. It can be unnerving for left turns in fromt of oncoming traffic."

Greg T., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"This truck has a lot of power."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration is excellent and handling very good"

Charles L., WI (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent acceleration. Handling great (for large truck) stability control a life saver on wet roads/slick roads. Towing at weight limits is very good (external trailer brake controller used)"

J C., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"mpg should be a lot better but it drives like a race car"

ROGER P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"My acceleration is top notch for a pickup this size. My handling is also excellent, though it did improve after I installed a Toyota TRD rear sway bar. I believe that the sway bar should be standard equipment on all trim levels."

Anonymous, ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"1794 Edition handles very well with a very responsive acceleration"

SOEREN P., WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"the acceleration is lagging and jerkkey, going up hill it shifts up and down constanly, The ride is wonderful smooth quite and it is easy over the bumps"

RENE T., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Love how much power it has and how big it feels."

VIC C., LA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I pulled a 9,000 lb camper in the Rockies. This truck can accelerate and pick up speed going up a 10,000 foot mountain. Incredible!"

ROY S., LA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Steering system is completely manageable. Ease of driving at high speeds is not stressful as you feel complete control is in your hands."

RICHARD D., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"only handling problem is the restricted rear view, several times I have been unaware of a vehicle approaching when backing up."

Anonymous, BC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"With the 4.6 motor, I expected better gas mileage. I only get 17.8 MPG same as my 2007 Avalanche 5.3 motor. Stifer ride than Avalanche but more trouble free."

RICHARD W., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Excellent puller but would like 50lb ft more. In western ND on I94 the interstate is a roller coaster and would like it to hold it's gears longer. I hate the fact that the Tundra drives like a gigantic boat. Take a corner at 15mph and you better hope your passengers are strapped in."

Tyler S., ND (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"All is good here."

Allen A., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Great, but it's so long that it limits the off road capabilities and parking lot maneuvering. I do realize that this is a pickup, but I was a bit surprised by limiting."

T C., IA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Acceleration and handling are a "10" on the Tundra. I was in the automotive business for over 46 years, and I have never driven a better truck."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The acceleration is outstanding and handles remarkably well for a vehicle it's size"

Darryl W., WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"acceleration is excellant with plenty of power when plowing snow, and has a very good turning radius for a vehicle of its size."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Love the start-up roar. Great acceleration while towing our travel trailer, and spot on handling."

Francis S., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The engine has been a joy. Plenty of torque and horsepower to move the rather large truck at a brisk pace. Handling is very good on interstates and back roads. The ride of the 4wheel drive can be just a bit stiff compared to the rear wheel drive version."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Quiet comfortable just an outstanding vehicle"

Richard, GA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Quietest truck I have ever owned."

Anonymous, WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"comfortable seats and a smooth ride for a truck"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seats & ride, good for hours at a time. Very quiet inside for a truck."

M M., MB (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very smooth drive and confort drive,"

Anonymous, QC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I am a big man...6'3" 250lbs....seats standup to years of use and remained very comfortable...noise levels always great"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"These seats are comfortable for short or long haul. The fabric is comfortable"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are comfortable, but there is no lumbar support adjustment. The ride is very firm. On smooth roads, that's fine, but it can be punishing on rough (or potholed) roads. The interior is reasonably quiet, but the roar of the engine during acceleration and hum of the stock tires at highway speeds are noticeable."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"RIDES REAL SMOOTH"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats reasonably comfortable ride can be choppy and busy"

David M., WA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfortable seats with good leg room. Rides great but tuned exhaust a little to loud inside. should make cabin quieter."

Patrick I., PA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The ride is as smooth as a car and very unlike the normal truck. There is sufficient room to sit three people across the back seat comfortably."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra has huge seating areas. The Crew Cab version has incredible leg space. We comment that the back seat is like a couch. The vehicle is very smooth for a truck, the driver and passengers do not feel like they are riding in a truck from a "ride" perspective"

Michael S., GA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Vehicle does not have an electric drivers seat and makes the comfort level quite uncomfortable and to replace the current seat with an electric seat would cost approximately $500"

Elmo V., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I am 6’1‿ and the headroom is great, comfort is high but noise level is not optimum. Rides great and offers great power for passing on mountain roads."

Jerry P., IN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"1794 edition. Seats great. Both heated and cooled. Good central storage. Quiet, smooth ride for truck."

J C., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are extremely comfortable. very little noise. ride can be really good on highway but a little rough on bumpy roads. Carries a load extremely well. fabulous acceleration"

Cheryl B., MI (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Ergonomic and tasteful design. Very stable and comfortable ride. We tow a fifth wheel with our Tundra and it has great performance under all conditions."

Anonymous, MB (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"They fit my body the best"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Fairly basic. Ride is a bit rough, like a truck!"

Floyd S., MD (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"long ride, seats get uncomfortable, can fell the iron seat supports."

R M., OH (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"very comfortable seats for a truck. can spend 8 hrs on a trip with no problem"

Roger P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I'm 5'10" and the seats are perfect for me, I can drive for several hours and not get uncomfortable. I have good road visibility and the road noise is minimal."

James M., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Cheap tires which come with vehicle are impossible to balance"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Super satisfied. This is vehicle for road trips. Plenty of room. Ride is of course truck like, but comfortable just the same."

David J., AL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very spacious and comfortable truck. The seats are extremely comfortable and offer good support ."

Scott T., MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats need more cushion and variable support"

David B., NC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"arrangement of some of the amenities in the interior are bad"

J R., GA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"feels good after long trip"

Anonymous, GA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very comfy. very quiet. Great for all day drives."

Dave G., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"ride is too firm"

Anonymous, NE (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Compared to my 2004 F150 Lariat the Tundra was louder in the cab. With the trucks being 10 years apart in age I expected better from Toyota."

DAVID M., NV (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Not as comfortable as previous 2006/7 Toyota Tundra."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Compared to the Tacoma I owned for 10 years, the Tundra's seats are far superior for comfort. Headroom and the size of the cab is roomy. AC is cold. Noise is what I expect from a pick up."

VINCENT N., MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"rides like a cadillac but its a truck"

ROGER P., FL (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are large and well padded giving ample room and comfortable feel. The cab is large and feels spacious, not confined. Road noise is reasonable, though there is some room for improvement. It's not loud enough to rate it poorly though. The climate control and the ride are both excellent."

Anonymous, ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The steering column rattles. Vehicle was purchased used."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Driver Seat is very uncomfortable. Very stiff"

Anonymous, OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I am a tall man. (6'6"). The front drivers seat does not go low enough to make the drive comfortable. I had to modify the seat to make the truck acceptable."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Noise level and climate control are good, better than in my 1996 Camry LE V6 Wagon. Ride is stiff without a load in the bed, but not unexpected. The ride smooths out with 1100 lbs. of camper in the bed, which it handles well with sway bars (installed at purchase). The front seats in the SR5 do not come with lumbar support, a serious problem that I had to correct with dealer installation of lumbar support, which helped. But the driver seat is still not as comfortable as the one in my Camry, a"

MICHAEL W., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seat ventilation is not adequate, vehicle rides stiff, seats are not comfortable, exhaust system and road noise is annoying"

Anonymous, NE (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are very comfortable."

MICHAEL B., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"excellent driver seat very comfortable, wish passenger seat had same adjustments"

RONALD M., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Complete seat comfort on long trips."

RICHARD D., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The vented seats work poorly. Can barely tell if air is flowing through them."

PATRICK I., PA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Driver seat leather wears prematurely on outside edge from sliding in and out of vehicle. If Toyota had installed a hand grip above door (like on other 3 door) to assist climbing in and exiting vehicle, that would have improved performance of seat. I am currently on my 2nd replacement cover. Original seat cover wore out at 6,000 miles, the 1st replacement wore out at 28,000 miles and I am currently 3,000 miles into the 3rd leather seat cover and it shows no wear yet."

DAVID L., OK (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Did not come equipped with wiper delay switch and no aftermarket add on is available."

GLEN J., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The Tundra is the best overall truck on the market. Even now the doors are very tight when closing. Noise level is very low. Seats are comfortable. Power and acceleration are incredible. The only knock on the Tundra is fuel economy."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Lots of engine noise and automatic transmission shifting."

Anonymous, NH (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"It's too loud. Ride is OK, it's a truck after all."

Donald M., PA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"very comfortable on long trips, ride is very good, and rode noise is limited."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are very comfortable and position is vey easy to adjust. Sometimes I think the ride is nicer than our Lexus."

Allen A., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Vehicle is big and roomy, offering comfort for all. Even the extended cab backseat is roomy. The bucket seats and console offer an excellent storage space next to the driver. Ride is smooth for a four-wheeler, and tows easily while maintaining the comfort and ride."

Francis S., OR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Seats are very comfortable and sit high for good visibility. Very quiet and good handling."

Gerald B., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The seats are way to hard and not comfortable at all. On a 2 hour drive my rear hurts in this truck. Same drive in other vehicles is comfortable. I will consider another truck brand on my next purchase since these seats are soo bad."

Ben I., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"My Tundra has the SR5 level of upgrades (cloth seats). Although the front seats are sufficiently comfortable for short trips (less than 1 to 1 1/2 hours). More than this amount of time is uncomfortable. The longer the drive the more uncomfortable. For my wife and I, the lack of comfort seems to be related to the shape of the seats."

Terry K., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"It is a good solid and quiet ride, but the ride is quite stiff"

Anonymous, KY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The size of the cab helps us haul our grandkids around as well as any personal belongings."

David B., NC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The Tundra is 100% dependable. It handles well in inclement weather particularly in snow/ice. I drive slow, and we have many hills here, so this truck is a staple in bad weather."

Vince N., MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I also have a 2007 tundra both trucks have been very good & Toyota back there autos"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Extremely good resale and reliability. I am trading it in for a 2019 Tundra."

Cheryl B., MI (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"A well built truck. More impressed every time I drive it."

Richard, GA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Do the required maintenance and get 400,000 miles of reliability"

David B., WY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"no intermittent wipers on 35000 dollar truck. Are you kidding me? No usable cup holders for driver or front seat passenger."

Anonymous, NH (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Holds up well Never had any issues with the vehicle and holds its value better than any other Pick up on the road"

Thomas F., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"great dependability"

Anonymous, NE (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"compared to other manufacturers that price their extremely high and then offer large discounts reflecting the actual price the truck should be priced at from the beginning"

Charles L., WI (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"A great truck for thousands of dallars less than the competition. Holds its value well and the price still books out at nearly the amount I paid for it."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Truck was much cheaper then competitors and wear and tear has been much less then my old 2004 F150."

David M., NV (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Good value, good resale value ,almost cheaper to buy new than haggle over a used tundra. fuel mileage is disappointing, and it is still a truck. If you need a truck, buy a truck but. Big, clunky, large turning radius, difficult to park. That is why I bought a 2017 Camry for my everyday driving."

Joseph A., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Have not spent a nickel on any repairs....??"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Very very reliable , great power , comfort , retains it's value"

Peter G., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"BEST 1/2 TON AVAILABLE FOR PULLING TRAVEL TRAILER W/ OUT A TURBO. EXTREMELY RELIABLE AND DURABLE. WISH MILEAGE WAS BETTER, BUT CAN ACCEPT FOR ITS ABILITIES. THE 1794 PKG. IS GORGEOUS. SHOULD USE LEATHER ON SIDE FRONT BUCKET SEAT PIPING, HAD TO HAVE REPLACED DUE VINYL TEAR. BRAKES COULD BE BETTER, HAD FRONT ROTORS TURNED AND FRT. PADS REPLACED AT 40k. MI."

Mark B., TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Thought it was a good value. Was most interested in reliability."

Floyd S., MD (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Is it PERFECT?. Nope ......Does it come closer than anybody else?, yup....."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I have a basic SR model, it has been a good performer. We prefer it to travel long distances - very comfortable. It also plows snow well. I have a Fisher HT installed."

WILLIAM D., ME (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Read a number of bad reviews on the Tundra criticizing the hulky size, handling, looks, and lousy gas economy. But it is no bigger than other trucks and I think it handles well. As well I have grown to appreciate the looks, although I like the old look much better. As to gas: the competition is only a mile or two or three more per gallon as listed on the sticker. I have had as good as 19 miles per gallon on the highway."

VINCENT N., MO (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Maybe not cutting edge but it WORKS and is reliable and easy to operate."

DAVE G., NY (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"It's clear in the 2014 Tundra that Toyota has lowered their reliability standards. I've had premature battery, tire, and Entune system failures. I'm not sure that I'll buy another Toyota."

STAN B., AZ (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"resale not good"

ALLEN H., SC (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Other than the bad seats the truck is great. Acceleration and handling on windy roads is good in the Tundra."

Ben I., ID (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"This pickup is priced a bit high but the reliability, power, towing capability, and appearance are very good."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tundra)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Too much outside noise when all windows are closed. Whereby the interior is styled simular to the Lexus, the noise insulation is poor"

CLARENCE C., AR (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"AWSOME QUALITY , COMFORT , POWER , HANDLING , GREAT RESALE VALUE"

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"The height of the hood is entirely too high and serves no function other than to look "big and powerful" to compete with Ram. It makes judging the frontal distance from objects."

GREG T., TN (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"Looks good."

MICHAEL B., CA (2014 Toyota Tundra)

"I think it is a great looking truck. It flows. No square look at all."
